he saw the suspect after the attack. >> we heard some screaming and i ran outside to see what was going on. i looked around and there was a guy, he started walking and i looked at him and he came around and i saw the right side of him and his arm was bloodied and he was carrying and nice. >> reporter: police say they have recovered a knife and are still working on recovering what happened. >> i felt like it was definitely a fake thing that could have got tossed around anywhere, but knowing that it did happen and getting a conversation -- confirmation was upsetting. >> reporter: there are grief counselors available to students. >> at this time, police say they are not releasing the victim's name until the family has been notified. today flexible before -- flown have staff. former commissioner julia passed away yesterday. he had stepped down from his position earlier this month for more than five years.

he helped craft new roles for body cameras and use of force. last night, officers escorted a van with his body. a friend that he died peacefully at his home. no word on the official cause of death. he was 52 years old. bill scott tweeted, he was determined and intelligent. he cared deeply about the police this is a great loss for the city. >> the suspected golden state killer is back in court today. the judge is considering making documents public. anna is in the newsroom with the latest. >> reporter: joseph appeared less frail than he did his first court appearance. he walked into and out of the courtroom. last time we saw him he was handcuffed to a wheelchair. cameras were not allowed into court today, so this is footage from april. authorities say he is the serial rapist and golden state killer responsible for 12 matters.

organizations are asking the judge to unseal the warrants in his case. he was arrested last month after prosecutors say they used dna to identify him. the request to unseal documents could reveal a lot more about the techniques they used, but his attorney said that could take a result for an unfilled [ event concluded ] unfair trial. his next hearing is and 29. people met last week to discuss where he may be tried and they made no decision. the investigation in utah continues today for the latest crush with the tesla. it happened last week when a model rear-ended a rig in utah. the tesla was driving 60 miles per hour when it slammed into the back of the truck. the tesla driver had a broken

one member of the board is calling for the transit agency to take a new approach. dusty wants to see san francisco police officers permanently assigned to bart stations. he says bart police alone do not have the resources to deal with the problem.>> it is a 10 minute situation. all of a sudden, five or 10 other people have just bought their drugs upstairs and come down and they are going to use it. you need a consistent presence of officers down there. >> he believes the drug use is keeping people away from bart. we can ridership is down 11% from 2017. >> this week, a second patch of cars is expected to hit the tracks. the new railcars have three doors on each side. they feature wider aisles and few receipts they also have signs that display the name of the next station. part expects to have all 80 new cars running by the end of the year. the san francisco airport will shut down the

this is where those gray skies are going to linger. it is 69 degrees in san francisco. you can expect your afternoon highs to be slightly below average because of the ocean influence. low 60s right around the bay and the low 70s for those in land areas. we do have this westwind starting to get stronger, 15 miles per hour winds. that is what pushed a lot of the clouds further in land, but overall, we have a system to the east and in the pacific ocean, there is another one. that will bring us a chance for some light precipitation. right now there is a few areas of green across the sierra into nevada. we could see some activity from the east, but also from the west. this will move on through tuesday into wednesday and that could bring us some raindrops. we have very light shower activity early tomorrow morning. then by wednesday, we could see a very slim chance of this
