view from the very top. >> good afternoon, i'm michelle griego. >> and i'm kenny choi. we have coverage at the tower. there are official ceremonies on the ground. let's start with anna.>>reporter: we are here in the courtyard at mission and fremont streets in san francisco's soma neighborhood. there is a ceremony going on behind me. it has been going on for about an hour and it will continue on, the longest press conference for the largest building west of the mississippi. anyway you slice it, salesforce tower is a behemoth. standing at 1070 feet, it's the tallest building west of the mississippi. it also has the deepest foundation. >> in this building we drilled into the bed rocks.

>> as opposed to the sinking and leaning millennium tower, which is not built as deep, salesforce has 61 stories and a nine story electronic sculpture at the top that will feature abstract, low-resolution images. videos taken on the streets each day and projected at night. also on the top, a system designed to use the weather to the building's advantage. >> it's just like a giant redwood tree. everything condenses and falls down through the greats and collects in a storage tank down in the basement and gets reused through the building for irrigation. >> it is a state-of-the-art holding with all utilities fully computerized. then there are the elevators. >> they travel at 1400 feet a minute. they are serving the uppermost floors of the building. >> right now, only 10 floors are occupied out of a total of 61. full occupancy may be another

year off. >>reporter: there will be ceremonies here all evening long. we are going to be life here and at 9 pm, a fireworks show. that is going to be a lot of fun. stick around, we are hoping the weather will cooperate. live in san francisco, kpix >> we have met at the very top of the salesforce tower.>>reporter: if anyone is afraid of heights, this is not the place to be. but we have exclusive access to the tower. there is plenty going on upstairs. anna mentioned the fireworks today. they have been preparing for this since early this morning, getting ready for that show. they will set fireworks off of the tower from 1070 feet. we also have exclusive cameras that are set up. the only station in the bay

area to have this view for you. these chemist tilt, pan, and zoom. we have four cameras all set up so you can get all the views from the bay area. it will give you a perspective from the north, east, and south bays. we are proud to show this to you because we have all kinds of microclimates that we want to show you. right now, the cloud coverage is starting to lift a little bit. our photographer is leaning over the edge at 1070 feet up. he is very brave. you can see the tiny streets down there, those tall towers definitely look a lot smaller. luckily the cloud coverage is moving around a little bit to clear up. we can see alcatraz across the bay. not quite to marin, but it's there. after all this burns off, there will be an impressive view. on a clear day, you will be able to see miles and miles of

here on hewitt place near holman avenue. police this morning say the officer fired her weapon in self-defense. hayward police shut down the street for more than 10 hours. investigators say the officer shot and injured a suspect and the officer was hurt in the confrontation as well. the officer suffered a non-life- threatening injury and she has been released from the hospital. the suspect is still in the hospital. please have not released any details about why officers were initially called to the neighborhood or what led up to the shooting. neighbors say chaotic moments followed the sounds of gunshot. >> i heard the shots fired and i told my dad to close the door. we did not know if somebody was running. >> 15 police cars started running in with officers jumping out, running to the end of the cul-de-sac. i came outside to see what was going on and one of them said stay inside. >> the officer was in fear for her safety and fired in self-

defense. a developing story near san jose, crews are working to repair a busted gas line. construction workers hit williams and south winchester. you can look for traffic delays in that area. disturbing new video showing a canine molding a suspect who was already in suspect. alameda county sheriff's office said this happened just after 2 am on monday after they arrested the suspect for dui on b street. according to the sheriff, one of the deputies accidentally bent down and hit a button on his vest that opens the cane under remotely. that is of the canine attacked the suspect. the suspect received multiple stitches on his leg, but is expected to be okay. new details in the murder of a maryland police officer

who was allegedly run over by a teenage suspect. 29-year-old officer amy caprio responded. 16-year-old dante harris allegedly hit the officer with a black jeep. she was taken to the hospital where she later died. three other teenagers have been charged in connection to this case. south korea's president flew to washington dc in hopes of saving the summit. angelica alvarez is at the white house with more.>>reporter: the south korean president, moon jae-in, is at the white house today to keep the summit on track. >> is this summit going to happen? >> well, as the president often says, we will see. >>reporter: north korea raised the prospect of canceling the summit over objections to join the military exercises.

there is a new video out of hawaii that shows the lava making its way towards the power plant near the kilauea volcano. emergency crews are racing to protect the geothermal power plant. they say lava could trigger the release of a deadly hydrogen sulfate gas. hundreds of evacuees have been forced from their homes for nearly 3 weeks now. one homeowner says officials made him leave days before he should have. >> now that there are probably 130 acres covered in lava, there are downed power poles, cracks on the roads, fissures coming up, people are leaving. >> officials say they have already destroyed more than 40 buildings and forced more than 2000 people to evacuate the island. it is the time for our weather. how is the weather up there?

>> it is windy and cool up here. we are literally in a cloud. the cloud is starting to break up a little bit. it is not as foggy as it was earlier this morning. it was quite a process to get up here. you go up 61 stories of business office space. and we are on top of the crown, so we want to show you this exclusive look inside that crown. that's what you see when you look way up top. look at the cooling system that is set up right there. we took an elevator up here, and the engineers who work in this building say they have seen all kinds of microclimates, extreme weather conditions. it could be dry on the streets, but reining in here because of the thermal collection that goes on. they see a lot more condensation than what we see out across san francisco. but we do want to talk about the streets. we are the only new station appear and there is a crew setting up for the fireworks

show. temperature wise, we are looking at 52 degrees for san francisco. that live shot is from the transamerica. it is covered in that cloud. temperature wise, we are at 64. it has not warmed up at all around the bay. we are dealing with cool conditions. west winds are also picking up at 11 miles per hour. downtown san francisco is a 12 miles per hour. fairfield is at 20. west winds are pushing in the cloud coverage further east. it will start to break up in places like concord. things will warm up a little. our sunset tonight is happening at 818. the sunrise is tomorrow morning at 5:53. high temperatures this afternoon will only be in the upper 50s along the coast. we are looking at low 70s for areas across the coast.

east bay temperatures are in the low to mid 70s in antioch. cooler in danville, cooler in vallejo. we are hovering right around the low 60s there. wine country is also only in the low 70s. we do have a chance of rain at the end of the week. temperatures will continue to drop. by friday, we will only be in the 50s and 60s all around our area. and look at that memorial day weekend. it looks lovely. sunshine with temperatures reaching the 70s and 80s. we will see some rain, and then we will see that son. here is a look from our exclusive cameras. this is the view of the bay bridge. you can definitely see the overcast blocking parts of the bridge, but it is an impressive view. when we have clear conditions, you will see all the way across. this is the camera we are actually able to view the bridge from. we have four of those set up
