24 hour digital station cbsn i'll be back on "the cbs evening news." good day. live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. a historic moment at the white house, as president trump welcomes a senior north korean official to discuss the nuclear i think the korean peninsula. good afternoon. i am michelle griego . >> i am -- for kenny moore. that story in a minute. the first right now. police have detained several people in connection with the car crash copter -- after an apparent home burglary in seven cisco. here is a live look at the crash scene. this is in the procedure park area were officers caught up with the suspects this morning.

police say several people fled from one of the cars. but, for are being detained. the scene of the burglary is not faraway. investigators are not revealing that exact location just yet. there are no reports of injuries from this crash . >> our other top story. president trump says the historic stomach -- summit with kim jong-un is on in singapore. he met with the second most powerful korean official at the white house. kim young toll arrived with his delegates this morning after their to our discussion, the president this -- talked about the meeting with the media. is what he said >> we can go fast, or we can go slowly. but, i think they would like to see something happen. if we can work that out, that would be good. the process will begin on june 12. in singapore. we know that kim young toll arrived at the white house with a letter for the president, written by north korean leader, kim jong-un.

when asked by reporters what was inside, the president simply said he had not read it yet but would consider sharing it with the public. canada, mexico, and the european union have announced plans to retaliate against u.s. tariffs that went in to effect today. the u.s. imposed terrorist on nearly all imported steel and aluminum. the reliance on foreign materials has become a national security issue. canadian prime minister, justin trudeau, has failed -- vowed to retaliate with tariffs . >> canada could be considered a national security threat to the united states, is inconceivable. >> mexico and the european union are also planning to impose new fees on imported american goods. white house economic advisor larry kudlow said the terrorist are negotiable, and could one day be lifted. california's drought may be over for now, but you should get in the habit of conserving to prepare yourself for new restrictions on water use. kpix 5 reporter, jessica florez, explains. -- >>reporter: our drought officially ended last year, but these new laws are intended to

repair for any future droughts. this requires cities and water districts to set permanent water conservation rules. californians are now facing strict water consumption goals. two new laws require water agencies to meet a set of water conservation standards. by 2022, the indoor water standard will be 55 gallons per person per day. by 2030, the goal will fall to 50 gallons per person per day . >> it is important to plan ahead for the next route. >>reporter: still, -- is the laws won't have an effect on its customers . >> our customers are already conserving, well below the beginning of the drought, when we saw every -- a need to reduce overall water consumption. >>reporter: the rules require water agencies across the state to come up with their own plans to reduce demand on the water supply . >> so, this really does provide that appropriate level of local control, along with some oversight from the state. >>reporter: jurisdictions could

give customers incentives to cut back on water use. or even limit activities, like watering lawns . >> there would be a lot that would happen before we would see water agencies implement -- implementing use reconstructions and fees and fines . >> the rules do put in place, fines for agencies that don't comply. up to $10,000 per day. in oakland, jessica florez, kpix 5. last year, california and use an average of 90 gallons of water per person per day , when you combine indoor and outdoor use. this could be the day that the city of los angeles names a new police chief. this is of interest up here, because among the finalists is our police chief in san francisco, bill scott. he spent most of his law enforcement career with the lapd. and, current la police chief, charlie beck, has announced his plans to retire by the end of the year. a judge in sacramento county

could decide as soon as today whether to release court documents in the case of suspected golden state killer, joseph d'angelo. the judge is deciding what information should be made public from the search and arrest warrants. d'angelo faces 12 murder charges in sacramento, orange, santa barbara, and ventura county. he is also suspected in more than 50 rates and more than 100 burglaries between 1974-1986. on capitol hill, senator dianne feinstein is calling on ice to stop separating families when they are taken into custody at the border. feinstein is planning to introduce a bill that would put a stop to it. attorney general jeff sessions announced a zero-tolerance policy last month for him against illegally crossing the border. president trump's administration is facing deep scrutiny over the policy. in the san francisco mayorial race, one candidate is proposing to reform the sanctuary city loss. angela allie outta will make a push today, trying to gain support for the petition she is circulating. she wants to allow local law enforcement to coordinate with immigration agents, if a suspect has committed a violent

felony. she is hoping to get the measure on the november ballot. today is the beginning of lg bt q pride month. today, a rainbow flag was raised at the franklin mckenzie school centric service center. the district, which oversees 16 schools on the schools each side says it's a way to show commitment to a safe and inclusive learning environment. two -- >> we are here as a school board to protect our students. to protect our lgbtq students. it is very, very hard for lgbtq kids today . house democratic leader nancy pelosi the released a statement regarding trout -- lgbtq month. americans reaffirmed the right of all people to life, liberty, and the freedom to pursue happiness, regardless of who they are, or who they love. you can watch the san francisco pride parade on sunday, june 24. at 10 am, we will be streaming at live on all of our social media platforms. of jack the warrior stole the first game of the nba finals in

overtime -- and overtime thriller . >> connects. -- thompson. it was hot. he was a hard stopper during the fourth quarter, but the doves -- they went crazy and overtime to get that winter final score, 124-114. the humane society workers are used to putting animals up for adoption. right now, they have a peculiar situation on their hands in san mateo county. kpix 5's jackie ward explains. meet vivian. this 24 pound pig is currently in the peninsula humane society in san mateo, and she is looking for a new home. >> she is extremely healthy. she is a female. and, she is very friendly, very sweet. >>reporter: communications manager, buffy martin tarbox says vivian was found on the street in south san francisco. she is a bit of a mystery. she thinks -- they think she is

a potbellied pig and don't know for sure. they don't know how old she is her habit she may get . >> if she is a baby, there is a possibility that she could reach up to 150 pounds. so, just be aware that. so, this isn't really an animal that you can keep in a flat in seven cisco. >>reporter: it is important to the humane society that whoever adopts vivian adopts her for the right reason. >> we will not adopt her out to anybody who would consider her as a source of food. she is a pet. she is a domesticated pig, and she is a pet. >>reporter: for her own diet, she prefers one that consists of pig pellets and alfalfa hay. she also enjoys the occasional belly rub. if you have allergies, a pig is a perfect that for you because they have hair not for . >> to adopt vivian, the adoption fee is only $100. >> she is so sweet . >> she -- >> she is cute. this is something you don't see every day at lake tahoe.

oakland. you can see beyond that. those hills. we have con conditions out there. a lot less breezy, compared to what we experienced yesterday and the day before. this would be the tower camera that is facing south southeast. we have a little bit of choppy water yesterday from all the strong winds. but today, not the case. those winds have simmered down a lot. this is the view from the oakland airport looking onto san francisco, where temperatures are now 67. livermore, 72. open, 64. concord, you are at 75 degrees. let's check in on those winds. 5-10 miles per hour. east wins at sfo. we are seeing some variable action there. mainly, what is keeping us warm is this ridge of high pressure. the reason we are going to start to warm up is because we are not going to get that onshore breeze. that came along when that low was hovering over us.

that low has now moved further toward the east. so we can say goodbye to that coastal cooling, those clouds. instead, we will see a whole lot of sunshine. temperatures are on the rise. here is the future cast pig barely any cloud coverage in sight for the next 24-48 hours. only clouds over the ocean. that is all you will really see. you won't even see those at night. we will see visibility nice and clear. it will be a good weekend. maybe head to the beach or hang out around the bay. if you have a sailboat, you definitely want to be a friend. is looking at those temperatures today to --. san jose, 81. concord, 84. some of your neighborhood, 82 in palo alto. redwood city, 81. union city, 74 degrees. on the east bay, mid-to upper 80s. 87 in redwood. 84 in pittsburgh. by tomorrow afternoon, sunday afternoon, these numbers will be in the mid-90s. we can expect to see quite a warm up. at about 10 degrees to a lot of those inland neighborhoods. 82 in campfield, 82 in nevada.

transparent dr. jill chase joins us now to talk about protecting your pet from fertilizers. of course, she brought a friend today. this is west. a 2-year-old highland terrier . >> >> i'm sorry to correct you. but actually, this is cola. he is a westerly . >> oh. sorry. got it . >> i can see where the mistake happen. i think it is so timely that we had one of our viewers right in to ask about whether or not fertilizers will be toxic to small dogs. i thought it was really interesting, because i just did that same thing with my yard. summertime, everybody is trying to get the yards ready. i just fertilized mine. the thing is, fertilizers are toxic. if you have an organic fertilizer that has nothing in it like insecticides and herbicides, then the main risks is that the item they use for the ingredients they use for the fertilizer actually can be, at minimum, --, cause stomach obstruction. if you have a labrador that wants to eat the whole bag of

it versus a small dog, who i think chewing on it is just not healthy. everybody knows from watching the show that i prefer preventative care. i prefer that your pets not in that. but then we have to worry about insecticides and herbicides. those are actually more toxic. depending on what the product is in the fertilizer, it can lead to, again, minimally, stomach and intestinal problems but also neurological problems with get tremors and seizures and stuff like that. the rule of thumb is to keep your pets away when there is fertilizer. usually the fertilizer has instructions on it to keep your pets away from stepping on it. and then, if they do come in contact with it, obviously paid them with something like dawn dishwashing detergent. if they eat it, you probably should take that into the vegan area . >> always good advice.:, thank you for being so good. and forgive me for getting your name wrong . >> i want to say hi to annie and efrain. i just saw than today with the dog kai . >> if you have a question about your pet's health and well-

i call it like i see it. the race for governor has turned into a scam. gavin newsom's trying to elect a republican who was endorsed by trump. and villaraigosa's being bankrolled by a handful of billionaires. it's everything that's wrong with politics. and none of it is helping struggling families. here's my pledge to you. i'll keep our budget balanced. invest in affordable housing. fight for universal healthcare. and stand up to donald trump. as governor, you can trust me to do what's right- because i always have.

when the worst oil spill hit san francisco, first responders went to work. and mayor gavin newsom, he went to hawaii. man: newsome left the day after the spill for a four-day vacation in hawaii. the same gavin who said his job as lieutenant governor was so dull, he only showed up for work at the state capitol one day a week, tops. gavin's not gonna work as governor.
