mayor's race. anci the future mayor made her victory speech here at her alma >> good afternoon. i am kenny choi. >> and i am michelle griego. anne makovec tells us briede suppose -- chose a special place to celebrate. >> reporter: the future mayor made her victory speech here at her alma mater, rosa parks elementary school in san francisco. >> today, we show the next generation of young people. many of them sitting -- we show the next generation of young people, many of them sitting in this front row, that anything is possible. >> reporter: a weak and two days after election day, board of supervisors president london breed is looking toward the future after her final opponent mark leno conceded the race. the 43-year-old san francisco native is almost sure to be mayor. the first african-american woman and second woman ever in the city.

>> i never thought the opportunity, to be mayor of a -- the city and county of san francisco was ever possible. >> reporter: in the basement of city hall today, the vote counting continues although it's highly unlikely there is any outcome in this race besides a victory for briede. one of her first priorities? helping the homeless with safe injection sites, and building more housing. >> it is about making sure that the decisions we made today have a positive impact on the next generation of young people growing up in san francisco right now, in all of its neighborhoods. scheduled to be sworn in on july 11th at city hall. >> reporter: one of the first big decisions briede has to make is who will take her spot on the board of supervisors. she said that is a discussion for another day. anne makovec, kpix 5. itrage this morning around 8:15 am on glenside drive. any structural damage. firefighters extracted the

getting some money back. we are just about a mile from one of those carinthia colleges. .. because the d-o-e unexpectedly halted this operation when president trump took office. becerra says students are eligible for relief because corinthian defrauded them in violation of california's consumer protection laws .. and calls what devos is doing quote: unconscionable. w devos we are outside the attorney general's office. about 35 through -- 35,000 students across the state will receive debt relief. in the settlement, balboa loan trust will provide $66 million in debt forgiveness. the california department of justice found balboa was using illegally -- illegal that practice -- practices. soon, students will receive letters saying balboa must refund all payments made by th ,000. >> clearo nthia colleges did has been a soap opera. but unfortunately there are a lot of victims in this soap opera. >> reporter:

reporter john blackstone gives us a preview. it would seem hard to improve on monument in the world attracting 7 million tourists a year. an attraction opens at one of america's greatest treasures tomorrow. >> yosemite is opening a growth containing some of the world's oldest and largest sequoia trees. john blackstone gives us a preview. >> reporter: it would seem hard to improve on the grandeur of you -- yosemite national park, a place that attracts about 4 million visitors a year. but for three years, one of the park's natural wonders has been closed to the public, while it underwent a makeover. to provide a better view of giant sequoias. trees that can grow more than 250 feet tall. here in yosemite national park, the mariposa grove has trees so big it's hard to fit them all in our picture. but a $40 million restoration project is making it better than ever to see these trees in person. how is this different than what was here four years ago?

back and burning off. pretty soon, it will be long gone. tomorrow, we may see a repeat because we have west winds pushing and that on shore breeze and that's what pushes in those coastal clouds and keeps us cooler. today, you will notice temperatures cooler than yesterday for the a's game. it's just right. sunny and 70 degrees. a slight breeze in oakland at around 15 miles per hour, and first pitch is happening here in about 15 minutes. 83 degrees for the high. 82 sunnyvale, and morgan hill, 84 so upper 70s, mid 80s. that's not bad for inland locations feeling pretty comfortable. mid 80s walnut creek and danville. antioch may reach the low 90s. concord ninety six yesterday. that will not happen today. dropping about 10 degrees sausalito 90 degrees today, one in napa and sonoma, mid-80s. oi

city of oakland to maintain and improve three wildland parks. joaquin miller, diamond canyon and leona heights. volunteers like chris cook install a post to keep people on the trail and away from the rare plants. >> he is a role model to all of us. he has committed to making this the best park it can be for the community. >> reporter: stan trains park patrol for a variety of roles. they reroute trails, improve drainage and welcome park visitors. a big part of stan's mission is letting people know the parks exist. he has produced two documentaries that showcase oakland's wildland parks and has led free tours since 2010. >> every hiking tour, there was someone who wo ts neighborhood 20 years and i had no idea this was at my backyard. >> reporter: he rewards on tears with page -- with pastries from the bakery
