good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, it is the first major legal action to turn back part of president trump's zero tolerance policy. last night a federal judge in san diego ordered families reunited. the judge issued a preliminary injunction saying families must be brought back together within 30 days. children younger than 5 years old must be reunited even sooner, even 14 days. more than 2,000 children remain separated from their families. the court order also stops future separations unless the parent is deemed unfit. the justice and homeland security departments did not immediately respond to requests for comment. last week president trump issued an executive order to stop separating parents and children. attorneys for the government argued yesterday the new court

order will likely slow the reunification process. and it's not clear how the new court order will impact the lawsuit filed by 17 states to force the administration to reunite families. california, new york, and virginia are among the states who filed yesterday. the states argue they're being forced to take on child welfare, education, and social services costs. first lady melania trump is planning a second trip to the immigration detention centers. mrs. trump visited a texas border town last week. she met with local law enforcement and toured a nonprofit center that houses unaccompanied minors who entered the country illegally. her spokesperson did not release any details about this week's trip. president trump had a big night after candidates he supported in yesterday's primaries won. there were also gains made by a wior good morning, laura. >> good morning, anne-marie. it was a good day for seasoned

gentlemen right now, extends from the white house to the state house to your house. >> in utah, mitt romney won the primary to replace retired senator orrin hatch. >> we're going to miss him. i'm going to do my best to keep those battles and fights going forward. and in maryland former naacp president ben jealous won. the democratic nomination for governor. he's hoping to become the state's first african-american governor. also in maryland chelsea manning lost to incumbent democratic senator ben cardin. cardin beat manning and six others as he looks to win a third term. anne-marie? >> laura podesta in new york. thank you so much, laura. a communication breakdown led to a security scare for passengers on a jetblue plane. police surrounded the plane on the tarmac at new york's jfk airport last night after the plane sent a false alarm to the

control tower. "new york times" says it triggered a hijacking fear. passengers bound for los angeles documented the incident as armed security boarded the aircraft. they later returned to the airport for inspection. the ruling gives the president to restrict travel to the u.s. on several countries. the state of hawaii had led the challenge against the ban, arguing it was biased against muslin. angelica alvarez has more on the landmark decision. >> reporter: protesters from coast to coast rallied on the streets tuesday following the supreme court's decision to uphold president trump's travel ban. >> it codifies religious issues rooted in bigotry and will be

a scathing response. further bans were struck down by lower courts as illegal or unconstitutional. an investigation is under way after an explosion at a texas hospital killed a construction worker and injured 12 others. it happened yesterday in gatesville, texas. that's about 36 miles west of waco. david begnaud has more. >> passing by coryell health care system in gatesville, texas, captured this video. a plume of black smoke was seen rising next to this construction area at this facility. >> it was quite a blast that occur out of there. >> reporter: witnesses say it was a generator that exploded in a new addition of the hospital. >> 12 injured with one fatality and they were all construction workers at that point in time. >> the majority of the victims had burns of essentially their

entire mouth, nose, ear area, many on their hands, front and back. >> no patient os star were among the injured. all patients were relocated to other facility. the explosion knocked out large portions of gatesville. well, funeral services are expected today for a new york city teenager who was dragged from a store and viciously stabbed to death for what police believe was a gang attack. for a second day in a row, hundreds took to the streets of the bronx demanding justice for lesandro guzman feliz. surveillance video captured the teenager being dragged out of the store last week by several men. he was slashed in the neck outside of the store and died after running to the hospital

several blocks away. friends and family are calling it a tragic case of mistaken identity. eight suspects are now in custody. new video released by police shows the group attacking a 14-year-old boy in the bronx last week. he was stabbed several times and is in critical condition. police believe both cases are the work of the notorious trinitarios street gang. people are recovering after waking up in kansas where a tornado struck last night. five people were hurt. one tornado tore through eureka outside wichita. thousands are without power now. in wisconsin, a funnel cloud was spotted yesterday in the town of platteville. authorities say it touched down, but it didn't cause much damage and people living in cities and towns along the missouri river are taking precautions as the water level rises there after days of heavy rain. some in the town of bellevue, nebraska, uated as water crept up over the banks. coming up on the "morning

rest of kentucky welcomed garlin murl conner home. >> he hitched the horses to the wagon. >> reporter: he fought his way across north africa, sicily, france, and into germany, and been awarded an astounding four silver stars and one distinguished service cross. >> and they said, there he is. i thought, my gosh, that little war rat, there's no way he could have done the things he's done. >> reporter: he was one of the most outstanding soldiers of soldiers of this war if not the most this war if not the most outstanding. pauline did not know any of that if she had eloped and married of that if him. >> a lot of times at night he would be dreaming and wake up fighting. >> reporter: conner died in 1998. six years later researchers found these affidavits by conner's fellow soldiers describing how he had beaten back waves of attacking germans. he took off like a bat out of hell heading straight toward the
