different backgrounds. kpix 5 reporter anne makovic has more. >> reporter: it's the largest 4th of july parade in san jose but has that small town feel. >> i come every year. it's a fun time. >> it's colorful. the culture that comes together and brigs us together. >> reporter: the rose white and blue parade has been going through the san jose rose garden district for 11 years. started as a small street walk and now with more than 100 entries. >> and there is good cause. it's just fun. >> reporter: sarah moved here from england and celebrates being american. >> you get to wave your flags and be patriotic. >> that spirit is something some of the people here find more important in these divided american times. >> there is a lot of disagreement. a lot of -- like two sides of america in terms of opinions. >> reporter: every year, sam's

thanks to more favorable conditions. >> we like to use thterm fight fire l e fire and assist with the perimeter control. >> reporter: the county fire is up to cox 700 acres. it's 25% contained and up 10% from last night; however, several evacuations remain in place. the latest mandatory one in an area west of highway 16 and south of old county road forth and north of road 53. >> at lake berryessa, they're losing a lot of business because of the fire. it's usually the best time of the year to get on the lake and is instead eerily quiet. >> this is the week we look forward to all year and what we train for. to not have people here and we know that they're missing a great opportunity and great vacation with the family. that is what we do. we try to get families on the water to enjoy the time. >> reporter: vineyard owners in yolo county are concerned about

how all of this smoke will affect this year's harvest. >> it's not a big issue if the smoke clears out quickly. it's a long-term exposure. the grapes will absorb some of the smoke. that isbig problem. that will ruin wine. >> reporter: cal fire will continue an operation that uses drip torches and pistols that shoot a firing device. that helps them take away fuel from the main fire and allows them to gain more containment. jack ward, kpix 5. >> meantime, a lot much progress in lake county. containment on the pawnee fire is up to 90%. all evacuation orders were lifted. the fire destroyed 22 buildings and scorched 15,000 acres. right now, crews are investigating a late-night fire at a pleasanton junior high school. flames broke out at 10:30 last night at the library of harvest park middle school. you can see the fire damaged the roof and the front entrance of the building. crews say flames were knocked down in less than a half hour. no one was inside. developing news, the 12 boys trapped in a cave in

thailand appear to be getting stronger. ben tracy tells us that rescuers are figuring out ways to get them out safely. >> reporterrapped -- wrapped in warming blankets took turns to introduce themselves, delivering a message to parents that they're in good health. some smiled and held up peace signs as a medic treated catches on the feet and legs. they appeared more alert than a day ago when british divers discovered them on a muddy ledge. the complicated task how they will all be rescued from the cave remines unclear. this morning, the governor suggested the team may not be able to leave at the same time. rescue crews areway waking the option of having the boys swim out immediately. that remains the riskiest choice. the team is trapped 2 and a half miles from the entrance of the gave. to get out, they would have to navigate in areas requiring if

all criming gear and a nearly 100-foot underwater dive. a difficult task st experiend alone a group of boys who don't know how to swim. the plan for new is is this: they're trying to furiously perform a lot of water out of the cave as possible. the hope is to bring the water level down far enough and it will be safe for the kids to swim out or better yet, they could wade or walk out. in the meantime, a phone line is being installed inside the cave see the young players can talk to their parents. the mother of a trapped 16-year- old said it feels like her son is given a new life. this has become a race against time and the weather. monsoon rains are expected this weekend. they're worried the cave could flood again and they have found two places where rain was entering the cave and blocked them up. ben tracy, cbs news, thailand. bay area headlines now. arson investigators in san jose are calling two grass fires

suspicious. they broke out yesterday north of skyport boulevard near highway 87. flames were knocked down quickly. in san francisco, anti-ice protestors are camped out in front of the federal immigration office for a second day, speaking out against the trump administration's immigration policies and calling on the federal government to dismantle ice. the oakland police department is investigating one of its own after this officer was caught snooze youing on the job. someone snapped the photo on friday and it's gone viral. the oakland police department saying, quote, we expect our officers to be awake and fully focused on their assigned duties. the men charged in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire took plea deals and agreed to go to jail. the mastermind derick almena got 10 years behind bars and max harris pleaded to six. they plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter yesterday. 36 people died when the workspace went up in flames in december of 2016.

in the sun tonight. they're briefly closing the runway at mineta san jose airport. the faa was going to cancel the show at discovery meadow. planes can't take off or land from 9:30 to 10 tonight but the airport will be open still. high winds are postponing a high-tech 4th of july show at travis a fore base. -- air force base. five00 drones equipped with l.e.d. lights will replace the traditional fireworks display this year. the officials made the switch because of concerns about fire danger. intel is collaborating with the base to put on the show and postponed it today due to the weather but they plan to do it tomorrow. how cool. >> yeah. >> would be impressive and doing it in san jose where they don't get strong winds, at travis, they're known for breezy conditions. we do have clouds hanging over the coast still. they haven't left the beaches alone. they want to hang out with the

golden gate bridge and into the embarcadero. by 9, may work across the bay and into oakland. hopefully the fireworks show is under clear conditions. it looks like by mid-night, a lot of the bay area is coated in clouds after the shows. around the country, the temperatures are very hot. look at the 90sacross the northeast, the south, texas and the dessert southwest. i show you this because this heat here, the ridge of high pressure is moving into the west. that is what is hovering over the dessert southwest into the weekend and beyond. the warming trend starts tomorrow because of this here. the temperatures are on the rise. you may want to go to the beach. in is a surf line camera view. starts tonight and lasts through saturday. we have a big slow coming through, 7-footers expected. this is why. working into the shoreline and near nor land. but it's bringing us a

home in marysville to his niece and said his 9-year-old great nephew deserves the credit for saving lives. >> if it was not for him, it would not have turned out as well as it did. >> reporter: it was around 3 monday afternoon when 9-year- old luke happened to go outside in time to spot e fire and sprinted into action. >> he saw the flames and turned around and went back in the house and told his mother the house was on fire. >> reporter: luke's mother, his five-year-old brother and two infant is siblings were in this room. this is what is left of it. luke quickly called 911, grabbed his infant sister while the mother grabbed the other two kids and ran out. >> he made a huge difference, i will say. yeah, he's a hero for getting in there and telling his family to get out. >> reporter: the fire was spreading quickly through the attic without the family knowing. at 9 years old, luke's now quick thinking is getting a lot of praise. >> i asked him how he knew what to do. and he said that is what they taught him in the first grade. take the little ones out and go
