has two police officers under investigation. a new video of the soccer team rescued from a cave. they're in good spirits and asking for their favorite foods. >> ninan: good evening. i'm reena ninan. president trump is in scotland tonight, getting ready for his high-stakes summit in finland on monday with vladimir putin. they'll have much to discuss, including the federal indictments announced yesterday on dozens of russian military intelligence officers. they're accused of hacking democratic targets during the 2016 election. on twitter today, the president called out the obama administration, questioning "why didn't obama do something about it?" in light of the hacking indictments, some in congress are calling on mr. trump to cancel his summit with putin. others are urging him to confront the russian leader about the election meddling. here's errol barnett. >> reporter: president trump is

>> reporter: donald trump's first visit back to turnberry as president has sparked a massive security operation. still, a paragliding protester breached a no-fly zone, coming within yards of president trump soon after he arrived. the president has no official events planned in scotland and will leave for helsinki sunday. >> thank you, roxana. and and jeff glor interviewed president trump today. you can see part of that interview tomorrow morning on "face the nation" and the full interview monday on the "cbs evening news." and tomorrow evening, norah o'donnell leads our coverage from helsinki right here on the "cbs weekend news." the director of national intelligence, dan coats, warned yesterday of the intensifying threat of cyber-attacks against the u.s. he called russia "the most aggressive" offender. tonight, elizabeth palmer shows us what's being done to crack down on foreign cyber-invaders.

race relations. >> reporter: all the hot issues. >> and supreme court now expect to see attacks. >> reporter: we agreed not to reveal where he lives reveal where ben nimmo lives and works because exposing russian hackers and trolls is dangerous business, and he's received death threats. they even sent a fake obituary to all his contacts. >> they've tweeted the message that i'm dead. >> reporter: social media giants like facebook and twitter are trying to shut down russian fake accounts, too. >> there it's called "rachel newman," and that one's called "jessica bower." >> reporter: and so is u.s. intelligence, but they're simply overwhelmed. concrete proof: nimmo has just exposed a huge russian bot network lurking online-- so well disguised and pushing porn, it even fooled twitter's new filters. >> all it would take is a single all it would take is a single call from the kremlin to sic it on the u.s. election.

could the trump-putin summit turn out so well, so cordial that won't interfere in the midterms? >> no. i think th >> i think the probability of a putin/trump meeting solving this disinformation problem is zero. >> reporter: elizabeth palmer, cbs news, london. >> ninan: the trump administration last night announced plans to reunite more than 2,500 children age five and under with their families after they were separated at the border. this comes after officials missed a deadline this week to return children under age five to their parents. jamie yuccas has the latest from los angeles. >> reporter: that is six-year- old alison jimena valencia madrid walking out of a houston airport, hand in hand with her mother. the two were separated a month ago at a border patrol detention facility. their story was thrust into the spotlight when propublica captured the girl's plea for her aunt inside the facility. >> reporter: cbs could not

confirm the authenticity of the audio, but it sparked outrage. >> muy hermosa! so beautiful the moment i saw her. i want to be with her. it was a long time i wasn't with her, and i miss her a lot. >> reporter: more than 1,600 miles away in new york, yeni gonzalez garcia, a guatemalan mother separated from her children at the border in may, was given temporary custody. the children-- ages six, nine and 11-- were all smiles as they came back together as a family. starting this weekend, the government hopes more of these scenes will play out. a new plan will process 200 children aged five and older per day to meet a july 26 court imposed deadline. in a san diego federal court, the government outlined their plan to move parents currently detained to one of six to eight immigration facilities. there, they will be interviewed and vetted while undergoing a criminal background check. the children will then be moved to the same facility as their parents within 24 to 48 hours.

this new plan comes on the heels of a july 10 deadline that was missed by the government to reunify children under age five. it aims to process a much larger group of people in a shorter amount of time. however, some argue it could put children at risk if adults lie about being parents for criminal reasons, like trafficking. that's why d.n.a. tests will be preformed in some cases. reena? >> ninan: two people are missing today after their boat collided with a barge being pushed by a tug boat near newport news, virginia. four other people who were aboard the 19-foot boat were rescued and are expected to be okay. the cause of the crash is not known. well, there's new video of the soccer team that was rescued last week from a cave in thailand. the boys and their coach appear to be in good spirits and ready to trade in hospital food for the hearty meals they've been missing for weeks. anna werner is in thailand with our update. anna?

>> reporter: this is the first time we've heard from the boys, who recorded a series of videos from their hospital beds. in the clips, they thank everyone who played a part in their re one of the boys is a 14-year-old known as adul. >> reporter: he acted as translator for the british divers who first found the team in the cave. we spoke to one of adul's schoolteachers earlier this week. she told us how proud she was of him and called her student "a miracle boy." now, the boys appear to be in good spirits. they even asked for some of their favorite dishes. in a press conference, officials said the boys are in good physical and mental health and will be discharged as soon as possible. some family members told us they could be as early as thursday. meanwhile, the thai government says some 4,000 volunteers have been helping to clean up the area around the cave, which remains closed. and a funeral was held today,

for the thai navy seal who died trying to help during the rescue efforts. reena? >> ninan: anna werner, thanks. at the audubon zoo in new orleans today, a jaguar somehow escaped its enclosure and killed six animals. it was this three-year-old jaguar named valerio. he killed alpacas, a fox and an emu. zoo officials say he was just being territorial and pounced on them. the big cat was sedated and returned to its enclosure. in a stunning upset at wimbledon today, serena williams was defeated by angelique kerber of

>> reporter: the most ambitious excavation project in a generation is now under way in pompeii. >> this looks like a piece of wood. >> yes, roots! >> roots. >> they are everywhere because here, before there were a field with trees. >> reporter: massimo osanna is in charge. he explained how less than a year ago this richly-decorated "house of dolphins" was hidden beneath a field. a third of pompeii has yet to be unearthed, only adding to the mystery of this place which drew more than three million tourists last year. visitors come to marvel at the preserved, ancient restaurants and frescoes that were sealed off for centuries. francesco muscolino is one of the archeologists. here you can get a sense for how this was all buried. >> yes, because this is "lapilli," the material that covered pompeii for three meters.

>> reporter: the pumice and ash covered as high as 20-feet. underneath, they've recently found political signs painted just before the 79 a.d. eruption. and, in may, revealed this skeleton. at first, massimo osanna's team believed the man had been killed by a giant stone while fleeing vesuvius' eruption. later, they found an intact skull and determined he'd been asphyxiated. you're still learning as you go along. >> yeah, of course. this is really an experimentation. >> reporter: they're sifting through what had been discarded from previous digs, and are using technologies, including hammers that detect wave velocity, to see how ancient walls are holding up; and drones to monitor and record each step of the process. the timeline isn't certain, but it's likely the newly excavated part of pompeii will not be open to tourists until at least sometime next year.

>> ninan: more than two dozen people were hurt today when a bus flipped on its side in downtown los angeles. a number of people helped the dazed and bloodied passengers before emergency workers arrived. most of the victims were sleeping when the bus crashed. the cause of the wreck is under under investigation. in nicaragua today, two anti- government protesters were shot and killed inside a church as they tried to seek shelter from pro-government militias. nearly 300 people have been killed since the political unrest started in april. demonstrators are calling for president daniel ortega to step down. two police officers in roswell, georgia are on paid administrative leave after they were caught on body cameras using a coin-toss app to determine whether they would let a woman go, or arrest her. >> okay.

>> reporter: you talk to your brother that day. >> i did. i am. i remember my brother reporting it to me. he got there kind of early on in the situation. and as he came in, he didn't say anything. we looked at each other and were concerned we would both be okay. and then i gave them the orders to go up. evacuate the building and to rescue those that couldn't get out. and as he turned and turned away and... grabbed this firefighters... that was the last time i saw my brother kevin. >> reporter: when did you realize he was gone? >> i knew it after the collapse of both towers and i couldn't raise them on the radio. that the chances... of... survival was slim. >> reporter: and your service since then has been dedicated in large part to his memory.

♪ live from the kpix 5 area studios, this is kpix 5 news. in firefighter rushed to the hospital when he was mauled by a dog. we will get right to the scene in san leandro. ondrea? >> reporter: take a look behind me. this began with people trapped inside the home. behind me, around 9:30 this morning, that is when alameda county firefighters arrived. they had to rescue a 15-year- old from the window. her brother was throwing dogs out of the home and then jumped out himself. firefighters estimate there were about 20 pit bulls on the property. once the flames were doused, a

battalion chief walked over to the teenage girl they rescued to interview her. >> he approached the girl that was holding the dominant dog. that was the one that had a leash on. she was not holding it firmly. it was not tight. and, he asked if it was secure. as he approached, the dog jumped and bit him in the face. >> there was an ambulance on scene to take the battalion chief immediately to the hospital once that dog unlatched from his face. the case has been handed over to the alameda county -- alameda county office. the firefighters will be taken to stanford medical center for the first of a series of extensive reconstructive surgeries on his face. live in san diego a -- san leandro, kpix 5 . a firefighter has been killed fighting a fire at the
