conversation between president trump and his former attorney michael cohen was aired on cnn last night. in it they appear to be discussing the payoff of a playboy model who claims to have had an affair michael cohen's lawyer lanny davis gave the tape to cnn. cohen secretly recorded the conversation two months before the 2016 election. >> i need to open up a company tr the transfer of all of that info along with our friend david. >> some were wondering if cohen was speaking about pecker. x-playmate karen mcdougal said she began a nearly year-long affair with mr. trump in 2006. just before the election the company purchased her story but never published it. >> whyou you didn't know about payments

to karen mcdougal? >> over the weekend the president lashed out at mcdougal in a tweet and said, your favorite president did nothing wrong. the president's current lawyer rudy giuliani said on fox news the tape speaker for itself. >> there's no indication of any crime being committed on this tape and that's absolutely right. >> the white house has previously denied the affair. federal investigators first uncovered this recording in april during raids on cohen's home and offices. court filings indicate the prosecutors obtained a total of 12 audio recordings during those raids, so it appears there's more to come. anne-marie. >> john schiumo in new york. thanks so much, john. severe weather gripping the nation. heavy rains gripping across the mid-atlantic and northeast. flood warnings and advisories are posted from north carolina to new york. out west dangerous heat is fueling wildfires that has scorched tens of thousands of acres. two of those fires are burning

on the outskirts of california's yosemite national park. today a main part of yosemite is being shut down. chris martinez has the details. >> reporter: summer getaways at california's yosemite national park are closed now. authorities closed two parts of the park wednesday in an attempt to keep a growing wildfire at bay. >> due to the fact that visibility is severely impacted, you've got the air quality issues, it's really important that we basically shut down operations. >> reporter: the iconic half dome and yosemite falls are barely visible. at least 1,000 campground and hotel reservations are canceled. yosemite hasn't been closed for fire since 1990. >> and now we've got to leave. >> sean shay and his family have

been planning this trip for a year with their kids. >> it's the first time we've been affected by anything. it is what it is. it's nature. >> reporter: the ferguson fire is raging to the west of the park and is only 25% contained. more than 3,300 firefighters are on the job. the plan is to set backfires. >> we have an incredible amount of support. it's just that the fire has to give us an opportunity to utilize those. >> reporter: closures are expected to remain in effect till at least sunday. chris martinez, cbs news. well, now to the flooding in the east. there is severe flooding in the baltimore area. more heavy rain is forecast through the rest of the day, bringing the threat of another round of flash flooding. some parts of the northeast and mid-atlantic have already seen a foot of rain. in charlotte, north carolina, emergency crews had to rescue five workers trapped by the rising water. the prime minister of greece has declared three days of ng in thwake of fires. at least 79 people were killed by two fires burning in the

capital of athens. entire neighborhoods have burned to the ground. in died near the seaside cliff. they tried to escape to the sea, but a cliff was too steep to jump off. their bodies were found huddled together. and back in this country, president trump meets with the head of the european commission today at the white house to discuss trade. in a tweet last night, mr. trump said both the eu and the u.s. should drop all tariffs. we are ready, wrote mr. trump, but they won't. pli jean-claude juncker called ods if whington imposes lli of trade levies on imported cars. in order to soften the blow to american farmers affected by the president's trade policies, the administration plans to provide billions in emergency relief funding, but some farms' state republicans remain

to produce trades for new markets. mr. trump introduced it in kansas city as the program was being announced. >> the farmers will be the biggest beneficiary. watch. we're opening up markets. you watch what's going to happen. >> earlier in the day the president tweeted tariffs are the greatest, saying other countries must negotiate trade deals with the u.s. or they'll get hit with tariffs. some republican senators disagree with the president's approach. >> the tariffs are not great, but the affect of the matter is trying to find a way to better position american workers for the future is laudable. >> where we ought to go is to a zero tariff world. >> the aid for farmers does not require congressional approval. the ecuadorian immigrant who was detained after delivering pizza to a military army base is free this morning. >> what does it feel to be back, to be out? >> it's immense. i'm so happy.
