losses, firefighters are bracing for a relentless fire season. >> i don't care where you stand on the opinion of global warming, but something is changing. >> reporter: these wild fires have taken a major toll of california's fire fighting budget. in the month of july, $115 million was spent on fighting the fires. that is a quarter of the state's budget for this year alone. as of this afternoon, the number of firefighters injured in the wild fire is up to nine. the ferguson fire that scorched nearly 63,000 acres near yosemite killed two firefighters. for the latest information on wild fires burning across the state. check our website, that is kpix.com. salono county sent deputies

to lake county to help patrol. they found a numberover people in the evacuation areas without permission and made arrests. some people had method and were charged with intent to sell. and deputies helped dmrams gather perj belongings before evacuating. a homeless man was killed after he was hit by a car in north beach. it happened when the man was sleeping on an entrance ramp to an underground parking garage. the driver did stay at the scene. a braisen car break in caught on camera at a bay area mall. police in richmond say it's been happening for months. >> reporter: police are noticing a trend. a lot of victims are tourists who leave bags in their car in plain sight. this is the newly released surveillance video of some of these break ins at the pacific east mall.

in this video, a man gets out of his car and looks inside another vehicle, quickly punches in the window and steals something. these break-ins happen fast. >> for example, you have laptop computers, gym bags, and you also have a lot of the suitcases. and that's when suspects break into the cars. it only takes a couple of seconds. and they grab the stuff and escape reported report investigators caught --. . >> reporter: investigators caught a few suspects. in one case, they stole $150,00 worth of jewelry. they're looking for these two. these crimes are crimes of opportunity, things that can be easily grabbed out of vehicles. electronics, cell phone, charger, purse, keep them with you or tuck them away out of sight. president trump's former

campaign manager paul manafort is back in court. his attorney arrived in virginia in court early this morning. yesterday the judge finished jury selection, opening statements, and the first witness. cbs news's paula reid has more from the courthouse. >> reporter: the judge is known as the rock etd docket for -- rocket docket for how quickly he month vs. he selected a jury and heard opening arguments and called the first witness. prosecutors told the juryman fort failed to disclose tens of millions of dollars that he earned lobbying for ukrainian politicians and. ed a $21,000 watch, a $15,000 jacket, and an estimated $2 million home just down the street from in courthouse.

. >> reporter: this is what emergency crews encountered when they arrived on the scene. the plane was largely in tact, but on fire with passengers still inside. the crash happened in durango, the flight was headed to mexico city. the governor says the plane made it off the ground and was hit by a gust of wind causing the plane to land on its left wing and the engines to catch fire. this is a passenger on the plane. there was a strong explosion that hit the plane, he said. we don't if it was a lightning bolt or mechanical problem. we had just taken off and the plane fell. this woman explains how she escaped the wreckage with her son. i turned around and there was a hole. i unbuckled the seat belt and we got out and jumped. some passengers described people trapped at the back of the plane and helping others make it out of the flames.

there are 5300 service members still missing in korea. and students in france returning to school in the fall have to leave smartphones at home. politicians voted to ban them from campus. tina has the story. >> reporter: students in france have brought smartphones to school for years, shutting them off in class and firing them up in breaks to stay connected. now, french lawmakers are pulling the plug, bans the use of smartphones, watches, and tablets on school grounds. the country's education minister says students no longer play football on the playground. they prefer to watch their smartphones and this can create problems with learning. the new law affects children as young as three and as old as 15. the teacher's union the skeptical the ban can be enfrsed. high school -- enforced. high schools can choose whether to apply and exceptions can be made. critics argue technology is a

and then gray skies. this cloud coverage is stubborn. it's keeping things cool in san francisco at 56. concord, 80 degrees. that's the warmer air. is on shore breeze is picking up to 17 miles per hour. and they're getting the southwest wind and that's keeping things cool right here. 90 for morgan hill. afternoon highs, 83 degrees. east bay, upper 80s and low 90s. san francisco, mid 60s, that's above average. clear lake where the mendocino complex fires are burning, ths warmer than -- it's warmer than normal. this pressure is headed toward texas and we will see the temperatures drop. sunset, 8:18. and now for the seven-day forecast. you'll see the drop in those conditions.
