57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. i'm kenneth craig in for anne-marie green. a scathing pennsylvania grand jury report found more than a thousand children were molested by hundreds of roman catholic priests over a 70-year period, and according to that report, high-ranking church officials did nothing to stop the abuse and covered it up. one priest allegedly shared child pornography on church grounds. nikki battiste has more. >> reporter: a grand jury has found widespread sexual abuse by catholic priests in pennsylvania. its report also accuses church officials of engaging in a systematic coverup. >> church officials routinely and typically described the abuse as horseplay and wrestling and inappropriate contact. it was none of those things. it was child sexual abuse. >> reporter: grand jurors

examined six of the state's eight diocese and identified 301 priests as predators. >> those priests acted as wolves among us even if they were dressed in sheep's clothing. i am sorry for that. >> reporter: the grand jury's nearly 900-page report was compiled over the course of an 18-month investigation. while it's full of damning detail, it's unlikely to result in justice for most of the victims. nearly all of the alleged crimes occurred decades ago. because of the statute of limitations, awe bull two cases are too old to be prosecuted. >> no one should be out of the reach of a law just because they happen to live a particularly long time. if you raped a child, you should be held accountable in a court of law. >> reporter: the report prompted expressions of support from churchgoers. >> i just took this justice for all the victims. >> reporter: washington, d.c.'s,

cardinal donald wuerl was the bishop in pennsylvania for 18 years. he denied the child abuchlts nikki battiste, cbs news, harrisburg, pennsylvania. the trump administration is starting a case between president trump and omarosa. the feud between the president and omarosa has become increasingly personal and nasty. she says she will not be intimidate order bullied. major garrett has details. >> he's alleged breach of her 2016 confidentiality agreement with the trump campaign. a short time later omarosa responded. >> you know, i don't believe i violated it, but i'm going to leave it to the lawyers to sort it out. it's interesting that he's trying to silence me. so what is he trying to hide. >> should he be afraid of more tapes you have in your possession? >> i think he should be afraid

misogynist, and bigot, and racist that he is. >> reporter: she released new audio recording which discussed campaign aides discussing a rumor that mr. trump used the "n" world. >> he said, lynne, what do you think about this "apprentice" rumor about it. and i said, well, sir, can you think of any time that can happen -- >> well, that's not true. >> press secretary sarah sanders said she never heard that language but couldn't guarantee there was no tape. >> i can't guarantee anything, but i can tell you that the president addressed this question directly. i can tell you they've never heard it. >> earlier on twitter president trump called omarosa a crazed crying low life and then come menned chief of staff john kelly for, quote, quickly firing that dog last december. >> the president is somebody

who's always going to fight fire with fire. this isn't something that's new. >> omarosa said she has also spoken to robert mueller as part of his investigation into russian election interference. while the trump campaign and omarosa fight over a confidentiality agreement, here at the white house, people who had top jobs like omarosa once did had to sign nondisparagement agreements, quite different, essentially saying they wouldn't criticize the president, vice president, their families, or profit from their time here at the white house. the white house lawyers believe those agreements are not enforceable. major garrett, cbs news, the white house. closing arguments are scheduled today in paul manafort's tax evasion and bank fraud trial. the defense rested its case yesterday without calling any witnesses. prosecutors allege manafort hid at least $16 million in income between 2010 and 2014, disguising money he earned advising politicians in ukraine

as loans. this is the first trial to come from robert mueller's russia investigation, but it does not have anything to do with allegations against russian election interference or collusion. now to politics. an old guard republican is out and in minnesota and history was made in vermont. primaries were held in four states yesterday. minnesota democrats voted for diversity, and in vermont, the first transgender candidate won a major party nomination for governor. john schiumo is here in new york this morning. good morning to you, john. >> good morning, kenneth. a political landscape continues to change as they position themselves for november's mig term election. it was a big night of first. minnesotans backed ilhan omar. she would become the first

somali in american politics. omar and rashida tlaib are favorites to be the first two women muslims in congress. keith ellison won his primary. in vermont democrats chose christine hallquist for governor. she would become the nation's first transgender governor if elected but has an uphill battle against incumbent phil scott. >> it's not just about the transgender community or lgbt. >> the republican primary for governor in minnesota saw the influence of president trump. >> i support donald trump. i have always supported donald trump. >> jeff johnson beat former governor tim pawlenty who struggled to distance himself from negative comments he made about the president during the 2016 election. and in wisconsin a former aide to retiring house speaker paul ryan won that primary.

>> who's with us all across wisconsin? bryan steil will face ironworker turned politician randy bryce. >> there will be more from arizona and florida at the end of the meth. kenneth? >> john schiumo here in new york. thanks. >> ahead, bernie sanders, one of yesterday's winners talks about last night's results and the upcoming elections. six people were injured when a man started shooting at a pennsylvania walmart. police say the trouble started yesterday with the dispute at a checkout line at a walmart near philadelphia. one man pulled a gun and opened fire. the alleged gunman and a woman fled in a car. they were later arrested after crashing into a police vehicle. police say at least ten shots before fired in the store, but none of the injuries are life-threatening. this morning recovery efforts are under way in the northeast and the plains following a series of storms that produced devastating flash

floods. in upstate new york, yesterday's floodwaters trapped people and flooded areas. the worst area happened in an area frequented by tourists. and in oklahoma, more rain is in the forecast for today. yesterday, nearly a foot of rain fell in an eight-hour span. oklahoma city was hit particularly hard. overseas now, rescue crews looking for survivors worked through the night at the site of a collapsed bridge in genoa, italy. at least 35 people were killed when a 51-year-old highway bridge crumbled yesterday. large portions of the bridge slammed into two warehouses and onto train tracks. dozens of cars and trucks ended up in a heap of concrete. the bridge collapsed during a torrential rain during midday traffic. it's unclear what caused the collapse and officials say the death toll may rise.

$9.95 a month. meanwhile the royal bank of scotland agreed to pay $4.39 billion in that it misrepresented the type of mortgages it sold to housing investors during the housing bubble. that's the largest penalty imposed by the justice didn't for a financial error misconduct of a single company. the housing crisis led to the 2008 great recession. other big banks including bank of america, citigroup, and goldman sachs will pay millions in fines. kroger is teaming up with internet giant alibaba. kroger will start to sell some products to chinese shoppers on a website owned by alibaba. it recently launched an online service and increased its investment in a british online grocer. the chain is working the catch up with walmart and amazon which are investing heavily in online grocery sales. kroger plans to sell store brands on the site, but didn't
