while taking his pregnant wife to a hospital to give birth. why officials say he was detained. ♪ good morning from the cbs 57 newsroom at cbs headquaters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne marie green. investigators are wrapping up their investigation into michael cohen for possible bank or tax fraud. also whether they violated campaign finance laws by trying to pay off women that had affairs with mr. trump. laura is here in new york with the details. good morning, laura. >> good morning. that multifaceted investigation maybe wrapping up soon. cbs news learned if charges are warranted they could be filed by mr. cohen by the end of the month. federal prosecutors are in the final stages of their investigation into michael cohen, president trump's former personal attorney.

they're looking into whether he created bank or tax fraud with his financial or business dealings. they're also examining whether he violated campaign finance or other laws by arranging payments to secure the silence of women that claim they had affairs with mr. trump. that includes a $130,000 payment to adult film star stormy daniels. cbs news learned prosecutors could file charges against cohen by the end of the month. the investigation began under special counsel robert mueller that then referred the potential evidence to the u.s. attorney's office in manhattan. mueller is investigating any coordination between the trump campaign and russian meddling in the 2016 election. >> i'm not going to be rushed into having him testify so that he gets trapped into perjury. >> the president's current personal attorney said an interview between the special counsel and mr. trump may not be needed.

brennan that had his security clearance revoked by the president last week says he's exploring legal options. he believes mr. trump's intent is to silence his critics. the president threatened nine other former officials that have been critical or are connected to the russian investigation. brennan, if it means going to court to stop the president, he will. and the jury debating the fate of president trump's ex-campaign chair paul manafort will begin the third day of deliberations this morning. he faces 18 counts including bank and tax fraud. if convicted he could face up to 15 years in prison. the alexandria, virginia trial, is the first case brought by robert mueller to go to court. the judge said he received threats and will not disclose the jurors' names. he is scheduled to go on trial for charges including money

laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent. the highest ranking church official named in the scathing grand juryort on the alleged abuses of more than 300 pennsylvania priests cancelled a upcoming speech. the arch bishop of washington will not give his scheduled keynote address at the world meeting of families in ireland. churches across the northeast held a mass of forgiveness yesterday. the bishop of harrisburg who is accused of trying to protect two priests apologized. >> in the name of our local church i voice again my heartfelt sorrow and sincere apology to all survivors of clergy sexual abuse. >> the report claims more than 1,000 children were abused since the 1940s. formal charges are expected to be filed today against the

murdered his pregnant wife and two young daughters. chris watts was arrested last week. the bodies of his wife and two children were discovered on the property owned by the oil company where watts worked. the cause of their deaths has not been made public. police have not released any information about a possible motive. in nashville a man hunt is underway for two gunmen that alleged killed two people. the victims were gunned down outside of a bar early friday morning. investigators say it's possible the murders are connecticut -- connected to at least three other shootings this month. >> and the man detained by officials as he drove his pregnant wife to the hospital last week plans to file a court motion today. he was obtained because of a warrant in mexico. >> reporter: surveillance video

shows her nine months pregnant and hysterical on the phone. i.c.e. agents just arrested their husband surrounding their car at the gas station while they were on the way to the hospital to give birth by a scheduled c-section. >> translator: they asked if i could show some i.d., she says and then she asked for her husband's i.d. that she said was at home. that's why they asked him to step out of the vehicle and took him into custody. she had to drive herself to the hospital. he's never even had a ticket, she says. the police have never stopped him. her husband has been in the u.s. for 12 years. immigration and customs enforcement said he was illegally residing in the united states but after video of the arrest was widely viewed, the agency released a second statement saying he was brought to i.c.e.'s attention due to an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest in mexico on homicide

marina in long beach, security video shows the truck crashing through a railing on saturday. it began filling up with water and started to sink with a woman, her son, and a dog inside. several people jumped in to help. >> they just came barrelling right through. i turned around. it's just one of those things. >> there were no injuries and everyone made it out safely, including the dog. a me too movement accuser is accused of sexual assault and two states are fighting for nearly 700 jobs with six figure salaries. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the new york times reports the italian actress that accused harvey weinstein of sexual assault recently made a deal with a young actor that said that she sexually assaulted him. she is one of the most prominent activists in the me too movement. she reportedly paid actor jimmy bennett $380,000 after he accused her of sexually assaulting him when he was 17. she was 37 at the time.

the age of consent in california is 18. the two appeared together in a 2004 movie. auto week says indy car driver robert wickens is in the hospital with orthopedic injuries after being involved in a massive crash at the pocono raceway in pennsylvania. >> it's going to be tight through there. >> oh my god. >> that's robert wickens. >> the 29-year-old driver was attempting to pass another car in yesterday's race when the two vehicles touched. his car soared into the air, hit the fence and spun around. the fence was shredded. it took two hours to repair before the race resumed. wickens was air lifted to the hospital. rolling tone reports the backstreet boys cancelled a sold out oklahoma concert after a

storm injured 14 people. winds up to 80 miles per hour knocked over a metal entrance at the outdoor venue on saturday. winstar world casino and resort says it began evacuating people when listen was within four miles. some people didn't leave and the storm hit as the band was set to take the stage. phys.org reports on a study looking at the cost of contact lenses. throwing them down the drain could be contributing to plastic pollution and water waste. they say up to 20% of the 45 million contact wearers in the u.s. are flushing lenses down the sink or toilet. the study says contact could pose a threat to marine life. scientists say lenses should be thrown away with other solid waste and not flushed down the drain. the kansas city star says 700 u.s. department of agriculture jobs paying more ab want them.
