his lavish lifestyle. and hurricane lane is barrelling toward hawaii as people there prepare for the worst. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquaters here in new york. it's good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. president trump says he did nothing wrong. he pushed back at allegations of michael cohen that implicated him in a hush money scheme. he lashed out at cohen that may have a deal with prosecutors. at the same time he praised paul manafort that was found guilty on 8 counts of tax and bank fraud charges. john is here with more on this. >> good morning. at 1:10 this morning president trump tweeted in all caps, no collusion, rigged witch hunt. this as legal troubles continue for two of his former associates. >> they didn't come out of the

campai campaign. they came from me. >> he is admitting he paid hush money to two women to keep quite about alleged affairs they claim to have had with him and he told fox news the payments were not against the law. >> my first question was did they come out of the campaign because that could be a little dicey. and they didn't come out of the campaign and that's big. but it's not even a campaign violation. >> on tuesday his former fixer michael cohen pleaded guilty to criminal charges telling a court he made the payments in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office. >> the president did nothing wrong. >> he did nothing wrong. >> the white house denied any wrong doing and the president accused cohen of lying to prosecutors while applauding paul manafort that was convicted on 8 counts of bank and tax fraud. he wrote unlike michael cohen he refused to break. make up stories in order to get a deal.

such respect for a great man. >> a juror told fox news that if not for one person the juror would have convicted the former trump campaign chairman on all 18 criminal charges. >> we all tried to convince her to look at the paper trail. we laid it out in front of her again and again and she still said she had a reasonable doubt. >> manafort has a trial in september on charges that include acting as a foreign agent. now the white house said the president is not planning to pardon manafort at this time. as for cohen his lawyer says he wouldn't accept a pardon even if it's offered. anne-marie. >> john, thank you very much. well, republican congressman duncan hunter is scheduled to be arranged today. federal prosecutors say hunter and his wife took more than $250,000 in campaign funds to finance family vacations, restaurants and shopping sprees. hunter says the justice department and the fbi are politically motivated.

partisan, biased department of justice employees that are doing it to trump, they're doing it to me. there's two ladies that is acting u.s. attorney and prosecutor, her name is emily allen, that's prosecuting me right now on a friday, went to a hillary clinton fund-raiser at a house in la hoya on taxpayer dime during the working day and then brought charges against me. >> the california congressman is running for re-election and even with the charges against him he is likely to win in his he havely -- his heavily republican district. >> an attempt to hack into the data base was stopped. it's too early to know who was behind the cyberattack. a web security firm uncovered the attempt and notified the dnc tuesday. hackers created a fake log in page to trick people into revealing names and passwords to try to get access to the file. russian hackers got into the

computers and released tens of thousands of e-mails during the presidential campaign. >> a dangerous category 4 hurricane is on course to pass close to the hawaiian islands today and tomorrow. it has sustained winds of 145 miles per hour. hurricane warnings are in effect. >> we haven't really faced a hurricane of this magnitude as far as history as i can remember. it's going to be a new experience for everybody, if it maintains it's current strength. >> people are stocking up on supplies. the power storm brings the threat of heavy win, torrential rain and flash flooding while the schools in hawaii have been closed the rest of the week. >> ohio state university suspended urban meyer for three games without pay for dishandling domestic violence allegations. they said they failed to report allegations against former

assistant coach zach smith. trustees said the two did not cover up the alleged wrong doing. smith was accused of abusing his ex-wife. meyer apologized and said he followed his heart and not his head. the athletic director was suspended without pay for two weeks. >> the man accused of killing mollie tibbetts made his first court appearance. he was in the u.s. illegally and slid under the radar by using a false name. >> her alleged murder shuffled into the courtroom in silence wearing a prison jump suit and head phones for spanish translation. >> mr. rivera you have been charged with murder in the first degree. >> the 24-year-old is originally from mexico. federal officials tell us he's an undocumented immigrant. according to the affidavit, he told investigators he followed tibbetts as she was jogging on july 18th. when she said i'm going to call the police he panicked and got

angry and then his memory, quote, blocked until he remembered finding tibbetts in his trunk bleeding from the head. he left her body down this road in a cornfield. >> he worked here. it's a small dairy farm with about ten employees. >> he owns the farm with his father craig. rivera worked for them for almost four years. >> our employee was not who he said he was. >> he used a fake i.d. to pass a government screening for employment but he admitted the farm used the wrong verification system. >> i'm very sorry. >> the case has sparked outrage from lawmakers. >> it's the duty of this senator and every other senator to act to prevent further tragedies like this one. >> the president said thve ner . the immigration laws are such a disgrace. >> rivera's attorney said the president shouldn't make the

case political. >> why do you believe that our coverage has been unfair of your client? >> if you spent half as much time talking about somebody being presumed innocent until the facts are out there i think it would be a great help. >> that was adriana diaz reporting. >> relief is in sight for people in seattle. it's been covered in thick smoke from wildfires but starting tomorrow a shift in the wind is expected to bring big change. carter evans reports. >> a visit to the iconic space needle normally provides breathtaking views but the skyline now shows a city choked with smoke and ash. >> i expected it to be clear and we could see everything. i didn't expect to smell smoke. >> it's collateral damage from a horrific start to the fire season. wildfires burning from california to canada. this image shows smoke covering nearly 2 million acres burning

the former child actor that accused asia argento of sexual assault shares his story and two star golfers prepare for a thanksgiving show down. people reports the former child actor accusing asia argento of sexual assault is breaking his silence. he released a statement saying he was ashamed and afraid to speak out publicly since he was 17 when the alleged incident took place. his trauma resurfaced last year when argento accused harvey weinstein of rape. she denies the two have a sexual relationship. a photo appears to show the two are in bed in 2013 when bennett was under age. sports illustrated said tiger woods and phil mickelson

will be squaring off in a winner take all match thanksgiving weekend. it will be held in shadow creek in las vegas with the winner taking home $9 million. warner media will air it on paview. cost to watch it.n what reuters reports a washington think tank says satellite images indicate north korea stopped dismantling a missile test site. images taken at the laumpling station a week ago showed no significant dismantling at either the sights engine test stand or launch pad since the beginning of the month. the think tank said significant progress had been made from july to early august. the washington post says attorney general jeff sessions addressed the u.s.opioid epidemic during an appearance in cleveland. >> i started as a drug prosecutor in the 70s and then came as united states attorney in the 80s. we never saw deaths like this.

implt >> on the cbs money watch the current bull run market breaks a record and the first casino in massachusetts opens tomorrow. laura has that and more. >> foorgood morning, it's offic. the current bull market is now the longest on record. the s&p 500 index o maj stocks has gone almost 9.5 years without a drop of 20% or more and yesterday tech and energy stocks were higher. industrials, banks, and others were down. the dow jones industrial lost 88 points. the s&p 500 finished a point lower but the nasdaq composite gained nearly 30 points. it appears the federal reserve will raise interest rates at its meeting next month. minutes from the last policy released meeting yesterday showed the board of governors discussed raising interest rates soon and also looked at how

global trade disputes could negatively impact businesses and households. a new round of u.s. tariffs on chinese goods took effect this morning and the chinese retaliated in kind. u.s. and chinese negotiators met for the first time in washington to try to resolve the trade issues. president trump wants china to change it's intellectual property practices and industrial subsidy programs. the latest round of u.s. tariffs effects $16 billion worth of goods china exports to the u.s. including cars and factory machinery. target stocks soared to new heights after the retail giant reported the best comparable sales growth in 13 years. shoppers stocked up on toys, electronics and home goods. target sales increased 6.5%. target says customer traffic rose to unprecedented levels and it's shares jumped 3.2% closing
