suspect's home. >> reporter: a live stream from the event shows what afears to be a red dot flash across one of the players chests seconds before the first shots rang out. the first # 11 call -- 911 calls came in at 4:30 p.m. local time. >> there were three decease the individuals at the scene. one of those being the suspect that took his own life. >> reporter: the suspected shooter was identified as david katz. known by his gamer tag brad, katz lost in yesterday's tournament. dennis austin played against him. >> beat hill. went to shake his hand. i told him good game and he looked at me. >> all i could see is the flash. >> reporter: tony also competed in yesterday's tournament. the father of ot in hilowebale he says when the shooting started, he immediately dropped to the floor.i is

the u.s. where former president barack obama said he and mccain shared a fidelity to something higher. and former president george w. bush described mccain as a a patriot of the highest honor. flags at the white house are back at full staff and president trump is not expected to attend the funeral. he offered sympathy to mccain's family in a tweet. mccain is being remembered here as a hero and ledge. he will lie in state at the arizona capitol on wednesday on what would have been his 82nd birthday. mccain served his country for more than six decades as a navy pilot, a prisoner of war, and long-time senator. later this week his colleagues in congress will honor him when he lies in state at the u.s. capitol. >> i'm just hoping that both sides of the aisle will take inspiration. >> reporter: a private funeral will take place over the weekend if annapolis at the

naval academy chapel. >> senator mccain's family announced last friday he was stopping medical treatment. today the san jose police officer's association signed an agreement expanding oversight for the independent police auditor. this comes days after the most recent auditor resigned amid mounting pressure. the san jose police officer's association issued a statement saying the former ipa of quitting his post on friday. now is the time to implement these sweeping changes. >> we have come now to a point that now that he is gone and we can move forward, we want to move forward immediately and show the community we have their backs. like we always have. >> in his resignation letters he described personal attacks on his office and work which he

says has become a distraction from the important reforms. the latest shooting happened just before 8:00 last night. police say one person was killed annulet anywhered. no word on a motive. one victim was killed at 1:00 in the morning. near east treat and elm hrs. rav. one person was killed in that in that shooting. authorities are looking for this suspect in connection to a stabbing on a bart train over the weekend. bart police just released this photo showing the man. he got into an argument just after 9:00 saturday night at the mccarthur station while riding a train. during the fight, police say the suspect took out a blade and left a 40-year-old man with an inch long gash in his thigh. the suspect ran away.

this is the third stabbing to happen since july. for the first time in two months the twin peeks tunnel is back open. they resumed service over the weekend. it's been a rough road for muni lately. we asked the director if he has any plans to step down. >> reporter: trains are going through the twin peeks tunnel today as nearly riders and city leaders hope the entire muni system can stay on track. the 100-year-old tunnel had been closed for the past two months for safety ansis mic improvements. >> it took an hour rather than 10-15 minutes to get downtown. >> reporter: so cross city commuters are celebrating. >> i'm sad that somebody lost their life in the process. >> reporter: earlier this month, a fallen steel beam hit and killed construction worker patrick rickets. he worked with a contractor

with safety violations. the transit agency has been on a rough road. what do you say to those that may have lost some confidence in their leadership? >> it's ununderstandable. it was a difficult time. >> reporter: last week the head of muni got a letter saying in part, muni must be more dependable. the agency's budget grew by $60 million last year so i expect that conditions will improve in the very -- >> people don't want to hear talk. people don't want to hear about plans. >> reporter: he's vowing to reduce delays within three months and reduce preventable collisions. the next big challenge finishing the vanness improvement project. >> you have admitted to making several mistakes but at this point do you have any plans to step down?

>> no, i don't. i will serve at the board of directors. as long as they give me the privilege of serving. >> they have a lot that still needs to be done. >> reporter: as for the twin peeks tunnel, there will still be a few closures but they will happen during the over night hours. the best bet is to check the muni website or its app. anne makovec kpix 5. lyft just announced an area they will not pick up riders. they cannot order a car from the busy portion of valencia street. 15th street to 19th street. this comes after complaints from cyclingists about double parking in the area. lyft says it will drop off riders to area, just no pickups. firefighters hope to have the biggest wild fire in state history fully contained by the the end of the week. firefighters battling the mendocino complex fire says they have gotten help from

cooler weather conditions in recent days. the fire scorched more than 450,000 acres so far. that is four times the size of san jose. and at last check, it is 83% contained. state lawmakers are debating whether or not to help pg&e shoulder costs from the deadly wild fires. it could mean bad news for utility customers. insurers are raising pg&e's rates following consecutive wild fires. pg&e says its liability insurance costs have skyrocketed since the october wild fires which could increase customer bills by as much as $150 a year. >> it is a long standing principal of utility law. that when a utility makes mistakes as pg&e has made, its. >> ultimately it's a statewide responsibility. >> really important for pg&e

and its shareholders to absorb a portion of the liability to create incentives for them to be safe. but it's not realistic. it's an everything will be on the shareholders. >> pg&e would first have to give potential rate increases approved by regulators. critics say they will fight to keep rate hikes from happening. pg&e tells us quote, without action by the legislature, customers could see up to $2 billion to annual rate increases due to higher financing costs and insurance premiums. a chemotherapy drug is being used to treat brain cancer in dogs. the high hopes doctors have for this new treatment. >> and is in the air. or at least in your cup. the seasonal classic that is coming early. >> we i have -- now let's talk about how cool it's going to

is the deadliest brain cancer in people. it's the cancer tt claimed the life of senator john mccain.. now there's an experimental drug being tested on dogs.. to help with treatment.. glioblastoma is the deadliest brain brain cancer th killed john mccain. clinical trials are taking place as virginia tech university. researchers say the drug is injected directly into the tumor getting right to the cancer while leaving healthy brain tissue undamaged. >> we watched the entire treatment and mri. we can watch the drug cover the tumor. >> researchers say results are so promising that the national institutes of health is helping to fund the trial. hoping it can lead to a breakthrough. as for the one of the pups under going treatment, her owner says she hasn't had a seizure for six weeks now. mri results show her tumor is shrinking. hayward school district participated in a nationwide
