grader that made a threat over snapchat. authorities investigated and found multiple firearms in his home but thechild was not charged. now parents say their students don't feel safe. >> we don't want this child in our school. >> the district according to one of their education codes regarding terrorist threats, they do have the right to expel the student from the district or from the school. >> as of this afternoon, a petition to expel the student has reached more than 1200 signatures. bart is getting a boost from the feds to help beef up security. the feds just awarded the transit agency a grant of $7 million. the money will help fund patrols on trains as well as better radio communications and upgrades to security cameras at the stations. bart is trying to get all of its surveillance cameras converted from analog to digital. in other bay area headlines, a driver is in the hospital after his erin menlo p

it happened at the station 1300 construction site on elle camino royal. no word on the driver's condition. san francisco is moving closer to opening the nation's first safe injection site. it would allow people to use drugs under the supervision of trained staff. a bill to allow a pilot program is on the government's desk. it's been a year since deadly wild fires ripped through wine country and this afternoon we've learned homeowners are still struggling to rebuild. out of the nearly 2700 homes that burned down last october, only nine have been rebuilt and right now only 520 homes are currently under construction. one of the biggest problems, insurance. some homeowners report being under insured to rebuild by $300,000. tonight is the deadline for a draft bill dealing with wild fire safety and prevention in california. the disagreement is all about who should pay for it. right now utility companies are

held entirely liable for fire started by their equipment even if they followed all safety standards. one option lawmakers have discussed is to allow power companies to sell bonds to pay off wild fire related deaths and pass along the costs as a surcharge on future utility bills. some lobbyists are concerned investor owned utilities could be at risk of bankruptcy if no action is taken. others calling this a corporate bailout. if a bill is on the table later tonight, it will pass through the assembly by friday. california's schools could soon get to decide whether to let parents come to campus and administer a dose of medical marijuana. a bill heading to the governors desk could help students like five-year-old brooke adams that uses cannabis oil to treat her seizures. but a court is allowing brook to temporarily use it until the

judge issues a ruling. the bill does not require schools to allow medical cannabis on campus. it only lets them make the call about letting parents come and give the medical dose to the child. another bill heading to the state senate that would insure mail in ballots to count even when voters use sloppy signatures. if i approved, it would require counties to check with voters before discarding a ballot. after two days of near silence, president trump offered words of tribute following the death of senator john mccain in the wake of mounting criticism president trump praised senator's service last night. after he died of brain cancer over the weekend. he issued a presidential statement and proclamation lowering u.s. flags until mccain is laid to rest on sunday. which says despite our differences, mccain's younger brother called the president's remarks childish. >> we very much appreciate everything that senator mccain has done for our country.

the body was so badly decomposed that even the gender was unclear. neighbors say that the homeowner 65-year-old brian egg had been missing for months and they were ttinconcerned. they said they called police to do a welfare check but a different person answered the door. >> the person that answered the door told them brian is gone away on vacation. he was working on an art project in truckee. very unlikely story. we would have known him for a long time. we called 911 after a crime scene cleanup van drove here to clean up the scene. the person had been feverishly cleaning up the house. it looked he was trying to hide evidence. >> as that person said, neighbors say they saw a private crime scene cleanup to clean up the house before police discovered the body. when they called 911, they say police came back to the house and found the body inside of a fish tank. police would not confirm the details but released this

statement saying we have an on going missing person investigation. we have recovered remains during the investigation and we are awaiting the autopsy report. an open and active investigation continues regarding the missing person. 39-year-old lance silva was arrested in connection with the missing person case. the investigation into a family killed when their suv plunged off a mendocino county cliff is raising more questions. the two mothers and their six adopted children disappeared in march. police believe jennifer hart intentionally drove their suv off highway 1 with the entire family inside. we are getting retails of the search of the hart's home in washington state. they say it didn't appear any children lived there. >> where they lived, what part of the house they lived in, what sort of regiment or what

was going on behind the house. those type of questions me up. because it wasn't what you would term a house that had kids in it. or didn't appear that way. >> investigators removed a laptop and an ipad from the house. the ipad was handed over to the fbi but it's unclear if they found anything on it. no suicide note was located in the home. >> nothing that jumps right as far as a motive. nothing. there was no notes, there was no journals, there was no anything that indicated why they would do that. >> the bodies of two of the children 15-year-old davon they and 16-year-old hannah have not been recovered. a pair of girls shoes were found near the crash site in may but dna tests were inconclusive. about 40 minutes to go before the closing bell on wall street as we take a look at the dow it is upright now about 42 points. jet blue is raising baggage fees.
