. good morning from you with the 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. we begin with hurricane florence when continues to strengthen as it heads towards the coast of the united states. it is still about 685 miles southeast of bermuda head the west, now with winds at 90 miles per hour. florence is expected to become an extremely dangerous hurricane by tonight and come ashore sometime late thursday or friday. it's still too early to project the storm's exact path, folks d re and map out s are being escape routes. residents are stocking up on supplies like bottled water and generators and some stores have sold out. the national hurricane center stl after coming ashore and that could lead to the potential for life-threatening storm surge

and inland flooding from long and heavy rains. governor of south carolina says his state is preparing for the possibility of a large-scale disaster. >> make your plans now. if you have -- assume that a major hurricane is going to hit right smack dab in the middle of south carolina and may go way inshore. >> swimmers have been warned to stay out of surf. cruise ships and navy ships are already being moved out of harm's way. here at cbs a change at the top. lesley moonves, one of the most powerful executives is out following new allegations of sexual misconduct. the announcement came last night in a statement moonves says untrue allegations from a decade ago are being made against him. lora podesta is here in new york. good morning. >> good morning. and moonves's resignation comes shortly after "the new yorker" magazine published a new article detailing stories of more women who are accusing him of inappropriate sexual behavior.

in a statement he acknowledged three of those encounters but said they were consensual. cbs chairman and ceo leslie moonves resigned yesterday just hours after six new women came forward accusing him of sexual misconduct. a report by the new yorker magazine details incidents which allegedly took place between the 1980s and early 2000s. they include claims that moonves forced them to perform oral sex on him, that he exposed himself to them without their consent, and that he used physical violence and intimidation against them. moonves released a sttement late last night saying untrue allegations from decades ago are now being made against me that are not consistent with who i am. i am deeply saddened to be leaving the company. cbs corporation and major shareholder national amusement said moonves and cbs will donate

$20 million to one or more organizations to support the me too movement and equality for women in the workplace. the money will be donated immediately and will come out of any severance package moonves will receive. pending the result of an ongoing investigation. the investigation started after a separate new yorker article in july detailed six other allegations. >> cbs's chief operating officer will serve as president and acting ceo while the board conducts a search for a permanent successor to moonves. anne-marie. >> lora, thank you so much. vice president mike pence says he is 100% confident that no one on his staff wrote that scathing anonymous call published "the

attacked people outside the movie theater. the suspect wases a white dallas police officer arrested on manslaughter charges after shooting a black man in his home is now free on bail this morning. they say she shot him on thursday after returning to the apartment complex where they both lived. she said she mistook his apartment for her own. guyger was taken into custody on sunday. she's a four-year veteran of the dallas police force. she shot and wound another man in 2014 after he took away her taser. coming up on the morning news now, fine at the u.s. open. why serena williams will have to pay up after losing in the finals. and the winner of ms. america, for the first time she did not have to wear a swimsuit. this is the cbs morning news.

>> there she is, ms. new york, mia franklin was named ms. america 2019 last night in atlantic city if the was the first competition without swimsuits in the pageant's 98-year history. swimsuit competition was replaced by an interview. franklin's platform is advocating for the arts. well, tennis star serena williams faces large fines and a tribute to 9/11 victims. those are some of the headlines on the morning news stand. the pittsburgh tribune review reports a tower memorial dedicated to the passengers and crew of flight 93 which crashed into a pennsylvania field on 9/11 was dedicated yesterday. it's the final major feature of a 2,200 acre memorial. the tower of voices north of shanksville has a wind chime for each of the victims. three other hijacked planes crashed into the world trade center and pentagon and nearly all 3,000 people died and tomorrow is the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

our top stories this morning, hurricane florence is getting stronger as it heads towards the southeastern coast of the united states. it is currently a category one storm with sustained winds of nearly 90 miles per hour. it's expected to become a major hurricane by tonight. a tax on security forces florence could hit the coast overnight in northern afghanistan have killed at least late thursday or early friday. the state of emergency has been 35 people with no end in sight declared in the carolinas and virginia. to the 17-year war, we visited and cbs chairman and ceo leslie moonves resigned kabul last week and met with yesterday following new allegations of sexual survivors of a 2016 attack that shocked the world. misconduct.
