guard.d. wanda be will be released one week from today, more than five years earlier than expected. smart said she's surprised and disappointed to learn of the decision. she said she will publicly speak about barzee's release in the coming days, after first trying to understand it. 16 years after surviving unimaginable horrors, elizabeth smart is still haunted by her abduction. 72-year-old wanda barzee who pleaded guilty to helping other husband, brian david mitchell, kidnap smart and hold her hostage, will soon be a free woman. >> by law we have to release her. she served her maximum time with utah. >> reporter: in 2010, barzee was convicted of both federal and state crimes. after completing her federal sentence in 2016, she began serving her state sentence. but in a stunning announcement on tuesday, the utah board of pardons and parole says it miscalculated her state sentence. now instead of a release in 2024, she'll go free on september 19th. >> the board must count her

"cbs this morning" is partnering with usa today to feature extended stories and investigations on education. over the next nine months, we'll go inside america's schools to find out what matters most to students, teachers and parents. susan page co-wrote today's story and talked to some of the 2,000 americans polled. she's usa today's washington bureau chief and joins us now. good morning. >> hey, john. >> good morning. tell me about t f teachers who walk out. it's bipartisan. >> that's right. americans hate strikes and by public employees, in particular. but they support the idea of teachers striking. two-thirds of parents who have kids in public schools today say, yes, i support the right of teachers to strike. there's a sense we don't pay teachers enough.

they have a tough job. we expect them to do everything from raising students scores and protect students in mass shootings. >> you just didn't look at the poll numbers. what came through in those numbers? >> incredible reverence that americans have, recognition of the role they play. we asked americans did a teacher make a significant, positive impact in your own life? three out of four americans say yes. >> and still held in such high regard, aren't they, when you look at all the professions out there, teachers are still highly ranked. >> we asked americans in a previous poll, what are the best things about america? the number one -- the number three thing was teachers. the only thing that did better was nurses and kindness to strangers. and teachers did a lot better than, say, journalists. >> here is what's interesting. you cover politics. where to get an overwhelming majority in this country to agree on one thing. in this case two-thirds say they should get paid more. so why isn't thereitical movement behind that, a powerful one? >> we've seen the effect of that. we saw teachers strike in the

spring in some republican-leaning, red states like oklahoma and west virginia and they did well. they won. state legislators, including republicans, who don't like to spend money or raise taxes, supported them because, as we found in this poll, there is almost no partisan difference when it comes to supporting the idea that investment in education makes sense and that teachers are not paid enough. >> but they don't mind the striking, but they say -- they say striking is okay but they don't seem to support unions. >> there's more of a division about unions and the things that americans don't like about teachers' unions, they think they protect bad teacher sps enable bad teachers to stay in classroom. >> a bipartisan agreement on them. people, sometimes like their congressman and don't like congress. people like teachers, but what do they think about the department of education? >> there's a real division. partisan differences in this poll, there's only a couple. one is on views of the department of education, split almost evenly of approve and disapprove. republicans approve of the department of education,

democrats disapprove. i think that reflects attitudes toward the trump administration. >> which is reversed historically. >> that's correct, usually republicans don't like the department of education as much. >> who wrote that memo, susan? you have sources, okay. another story. i digress. >> thank you for the partnership. >> glad to do it. >> for the first time in nfl history, male dancers will be cheering on the sidelines. "cbs this morning" profiled the baltimore ravens coed cheer squad. those men are stunt men and only responsible for some of the high-flying acts. of the 32 teams in the nfl only two teams are featuring male dancers next to female dancers, st. louis rams and new orleans saints. jamie yuccas met the man who will help rams fans get reved up in their season home debut this

weekend. ♪ your mama raised you better than that ♪ >> napoleon jinnies and quintin peron. have you ever thought you would be one of the first male chee leaders in the nfl? >> no. for me and other guys it's never been talked about. >> i've always been a dare devil, not going to lie. the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. >> reporter: the reward is a history-making turn as the men are dancing the same routine, traditionally performed by an all-female squad. >> giddy. it's crazy. >> i was standing on the field and closed my eyes and brees came by and i heard the crowd roar and i was like, ahh. >> tryouts have always been open to everyone but quinton and napolean, classically trained dancers, were the only men who ever showed up. and the ladies say the guys fit right in. >> we all get along really well on this team.

we call ourselves a ramily for a reason. >> ramily? >> yeah. it's a thing. >> to have the first male cheerleaders officially on an nfl team, that's huge. rams, we're making some news. >> reporter: after a season of lawsuits and complaints filed on behalf of nfl cheerleaders. six firmer houston texans cheerleaders claimed they endured brutal working conditions. >> we were bullied and we were body shamed for $7.25 an hour. >> former miami dolphins cheerleader claims she was discriminating against based on her religion. others are fighting double standards tied to their weight and wardrobe. >> i felt humiliated and ashamed of my own body. >> reporter: sports writer nancy armour believes the time has come for teams to prove how much they value their cheer teams. >> nfl teams have long said these are important members of our community. but the outfits and the roles that they have them play on sundays haven't always reflected

that. what better way to say, no, we are not trying to objectify our cheerleaders, by having men and women do it? >> i quickly glanced at twitter. there are people that think that you guys shouldn't be out there, that it should be the girls and that it's all about them being sexy and out there. >> yeah. >> reporter: how do you take that? >> i don't. i don't take it. i don't have to. being an artist, you have to have tough skin. if someone says anything negative, it's nothing new. you just have to brush it off. >> there's nothing you can tell me that is going to hurt because i have the support of my friends, family and team. that's all i need. >> reporter: the guys are downplaying their groundbreaking, but quinton, who teaches dance, is proud to be making room on the sidelines for a new generation of cheerleaders. >> for me to be able to inspire my kids and say that, honestly, you can really do anything because i can do this. the world's yours. take it. take a risk. >> reporter: and that's something to root for. for "cbs this morning," jamie

finally have a voice, they're speaking up the unspeakable, they still need to find a financial voice. >> yeah, but you look at the data, as you point out, and women on average lose over a million dollars over their lifetime for settling for the salary that they're offered. >> and that's why they need to find a voice that values themselves. there's a law of money when you undervalue yourself, the world undervalues what you do. >> but i know a lot of women who have used their voice and have not gotten that raise. and it's not about getting a raise, it's about feeling powerful in your life and why don't you get a raise? because you can use your voice, but that doesn't mean that you have power. this book is all about right here and right now and what's happening to women. for them to be given actual steps, in many ways internally and externally for them when they use their voice there's

power behind the voice. >> what does that mean exactly? somebody's listening, give them a tip. >> oh my god there's so many tips in there. but the first thing you have to do is you really need a financial empowerment plan, which is what i call it in the book. you need this. you need your eight-month emergency fund. you need a will. you need a trust. you need those things. but more than those things even, you need to know who you are. you need to be able to deal with money within your family. it's money is just a manifest occasi -- manifestation of you. >> it's been my experience only rich people say that. but what do you mean when you say money doesn't buy happiness? >> money will not buy you happiness but lack of money sure will make you his zbleshl there you go. >> i never sid the goaid the go to have money, because you need money. let's face it, you need money to be able to live. and so how do you get money?

what do you do with the money that you make? what can you do? because when you're powerful over your money, even if you have a little money, you're happy. >> some of the common mistakes that women make with money they're still making today even after you've given so much advice on that topic. >> they're still cosigning loans for their children. they're still letting their kids go to schools that are too expensive and taking out loans for them to do so. and then their kids don't do whatever. the biggest mistake women are still making is that they're saying yes out of fear of what other people will think about them versus no out of love for themselves. they'll say, yes, i'll lend you this money. yes, i'll give you this. yes, i'll do this for you versus, no, i don't want to bas i want it for myself sfwll and how do -- >> how does this play out in relationships? i'm needing help, suze. >> are you about to get a divorce? >> it doesn't need to go from0 o
