i'm anne-marie green. the senate is scheduled to vote on the nomination of brett kavanaugh this morning. the vote follows yesterday's powerful, hard to watch testimony from kavanaugh and the woman who accuses him of sexual assault. christine blasey ford is certain kavanaugh assaulted her 36 years ago. an angry, emotional kavanaugh denied the charge. the testimony played out in a highly charges partisan atmosphere. with kavanaugh's appointment to be decided by a few republican votes. we are on capitol hill with the details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ann-marie. the testimony did little, if anything at all to quell the deep partisan divide. leaving kavanaugh's confirmation in flux. the judge's fate could come down to a few votes.

after a day long hearing at the senate judiciary hearing, a handful of senators remain undecided on how to vote on supreme court nominee, brett kavanaugh. >> he's right, she's wrong, she's right, he's wrong. i mean, you just, you are never certain. >> reporter: jeff flake is processing the eight hours of testimony by kavanaugh and his accuser, christine blasey ford. >> he ran his hands over my body. >> reporter: ford, calm, recounted her claim that kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school. >> i believe he was going rape me. i tried to yell for help. when i did, brett put his hand over my mouth and stopped me from yelling. >> reporter: many republicans say there's a lack of collaboration from her story and put their support behind kavanaugh. >> to my republican colleagues, if you vote no, you are legitimizing the most despicable thing i have seen in my time in politics. >> reporter: during the

defiant and emotional testimony -- >> my family and my name have been totally and permanently destroyed. we mean no ill will. >> reporter: kavanaugh strongly denied the allegations and joined republicans in calling them a smear campaign. >> this confirmation process has become a national disgrace. >> i'm not sure he showed the judicial temperament typical of nominees before us. >> reporter: democrats continue to call for an fbi investigation but admit there's nothing they can do to stop the kavanaugh nomination without the republican help. they are set to vote this morning. a full senate vote on track for next week. annmarie following the hearing, president trump made it clear he was sticking with kavanaugh. the president tweeted, judge kavanaugh showed america why i nominated him. his testimony was powerful, honest and riveting.

aside from the testimony, the hearing turned into a no holds bar partisan free for all. senator orin hatch called the hearing a national disgrace. democrats called the hearing unfair. we have more. >> i don't know how any republican watching this testimony could possibly vote for brett kavanaugh after what she said. >> reporter: democrats rallied around christine blasey ford, casting her as a reputable witness. >> her allegations are powerful and credible. i believe her. >> reporter: some republicans agree. >> i found no reason to find her not credible. >> reporter: others continue to find doubts. >> my republican colleagues, if you can't ignore everything in this record, looking at allegations 35 years old, nscertain of time, place, date, >> reporter: south carolina's lindsey graham raised doubts

about ford's credibility and whether her attorneys are politically motivated. >> the friends on the other side set it up to be just the way it is. i feel ambushed as the majority. >> reporter: the hearing brought capitol hill to a standstill. staffers and offices in cafeterias watched spell bound for hours. at least 1200 protesters were in the streets, mostly in support of ford.ery democrat votes against kavanaugh, gop can't afford to lose more than one of their own. ahead, we will talk with minnesota senator, amy klobuchar about thursday's hearing and what comes next. president trump and rod meto nt week rosenstein went to the white house monday expecting to be fired. it followed reports he discussed recording the president and

he denied the allegations and was not dismissed. wednesday, mr. trump said he would prefer not to fire him. rosenstein is overseeing mueller's investigation into the 2016 election. they called the latest claim about the nuclear program by prime inister benjamin netanyahu ridiculous. he is a long-time opponent of the 2016 accord meant to stop iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. netanyahu accused iran of keeping a secret warehouse outside tehran. >> the reason they didn't destroy it is because it hasn't abandoned. the goal is to develop nuclear weapons. >> he claims they are concealing massive amounts of equipment and materials and challenged the u.s. inspectors to examine the

site. now that north carolina police believe they have found the body of a 6-year-old autistic boy. he had been missing when he ran away from his father at a park. we have the report. >> reporter: the boy's body was found in a creek about a mile away from the gastonia park where 6-year-old maddox rich was reported missing saturday. robert helton choked back tears. >> i'm heartbroken. our community is heartbroken. >> reporter: the fbi said the discovery does not end its investigation. >> what is your investigation looking to answer right now? >> effectively, where did he enter, how did he get there, what was the manner of death? what was the cause of death? was there a crime committed or simply looking at an accident? they are difficult questions to answer.

they are questions we will answer. >> reporter: wednesday, his father, ian rich told cbs news the boy ran after a jogger at the park. maddox, who is autistic and nonverbal around strangers then disappeared. dozens of searchers spent a week scouring hundreds of acres as hundreds of tips came in. they live near the creek where the body was eventually found and had these words for the parents. >> we have been praying for you. me and my wife are praying family. we be praying for you. >> reporter: investigators would like to speak to anyone else at the park at the time of the disappearance. they do not believe the body floated from the lake to the creek, but said there is a bath maddox could have taken. cbs news, gastonia, north carolina. the board of directors of electric auto maker, tesla, is fully confident in elon musk's integrity. the board was responding after the securities and exchange

( ♪ ) a jet liner crash landed in a micronesia lagoon in the pacific this morning. all 47 passengers and crew on board the boeing 737 survived. seven people were hospitalized. the plane hit the water short of the runway attempting to land at shook island in the south pacific. the airline said the weather was poor at the time. the cause of the crash is under investigation.

supreme court justice ruth bader ginsburg weighs in. a white officer is charged with shooting a black man. those are the headlines on the newsstand. the tennesseean charged in the death of a black man. a white police officer is charged in the death of a black man. surveillance video from july appears to show him chasing the black man and opening fire as he ran away near an apartment complex. he mistook him as a suspect he was pursuing. the attorney says he was following the law and his training. hawaii news reports on the remains of the soldiers killed in the korean war. 64 sets of remains were handed over to south korean officials at a ceremony at pearl harbor yesterday. they were recovered in north korea between 1996 and 2005. but had to be separated from remains of american service members.

one of bill cosby's first meals in prison included a half cup of jell-o, the desert he promoted 25 years. cosby is a prisoner at a pennsylvania state prison outside of philadelphia. he was sentenced tuesday 3-10 years for the 2004 sexual assault of a woman. question, it went directly to an issue a lot of people are wondering about. how reliable is the memory of someone that's been traumatized? >> i can't remember things that happened when i was 15. >> reporter: at stand, an agency in contra costa county say they may not remember every detail, but they are not likely to forget it ever happened. >> in general, when people experience trauma, they store it in a certain way. that's part of clinical work, helping people unpack them. >> the way trauma impacts us is it turns off certain plifies other parts >> reporter: traumatic memories are flagged in a part of the brain that deal with emotion, not facts, which is why victims vividly remember things like sounds and smells. >> the details about that night that bring me here today are the ones i will never forget.

our top stories this morning, the senate judiciary committee is scheduled to vote this morning on advancing brett kavanaugh's supreme court nomination to the full senate. kavanaugh and the woman who accused him of sexually assaulting him 36 years ago testified yesterday she is 100% sure it is kavanaugh that attacks her. kavanaugh denied the charges and allegations by other women. president trump and rod rosenstein delayed their meeting until next week. they were scheduled to meet yesterday, following reports rosenstein offered to secretly tape mr. trump and use it to remove him from office. they wanted to avoid conflicting with the kavanaugh hearing. north carolina police believe they have recovered the

body of a missing 6-year-old. they don't know how he died.ndn mile from where his father says he ran away from him last saturday. the boy suffered from autism. the father issued a statement saying, i would do anything to go back and save him. the insurance institute for highway safety says millions of big rigs on u.s. roads are safer than a few years go. hillary lane has more. >> reporter: this crash test video shows surviving a collision with the back of a semitractor trailer is slim when they don't have rear guards. >> it's bad because the structure that is designed into a passenger car to keep the occupants safe is much lower than the height of the trailer or truck that is being hit. >> reporter: for decades, the u.s. required big rigs to have metal bumpers that hang from the back of trailers to prevent vehicles from going under the truck. >> it creates a structure that
