disaster zone. plans for safe injection sites have been scrapped, the governor vetoed a bill that would allow the city to open a pilot program in san francisco. the governor wrote in part saying enabling illegal and destructive use will never work, the san francisco mayor pushed for the program as a means to get drug users and needles off the streets. she also said she's disappointed and if we are going to prevent overdoses and connect people to services and treatment, that they need to stop using drugs in the first place, we need safe injection sites. the governor also signed a new law requiring law enforcement agencies to count and report untested rape kits, the bill requires police and sheriff's department to produce an accurate audit of their backlogs. they estimate there are about 13,000 untested kits statewide, thanks to the new law officials could soon see the number start to change. >> finally with the bill being signed we will know what the backlog of these untested kits looks like which is a major step forward to seeing justice but we have more work to do.

preparedness is the responsibility of everyone. >> we are putting out a call to make sure that you are prepared to make sure that we are looking out for one another and preparing at least three days of supplies just in case. a new ridesharing service geared towards women is rolling out in san francisco it is called safer and uses mostly women as drivers. you also have to undergo extensive background checks and in person interviews on my companies like uber and lyft. those who use the app can preselect the gender of their drivers, a response to recent sexual assault allegations against drivers of other companies. >> we have new safety features within the app and processes. to ensure that we are bringing the best drivers on board and giving the best experience to the writers as well.
