57 at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. the white house has given the fbi permission to expand its investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh. president trump says he wants a comprehensive investigation. the fbi has until friday to finish, and senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says he wants to vote on kavanaugh this week. laura podesta is here in new york. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yes, the fbi is up against the clock. it needs to have its review done by friday. the same day that the republicans plan to hold a confirmation vote. that leaves the bureau three days to attempt to interview the two dozen witnesses democrats have submitted. >> by the way, if we took ten years, they'd want more time. >> reporter: at a rally in tennessee last night, president trump blasted democrats for trying to thwart the confirmation of his supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh.

>> thrive beey've been trying t destroy him since the first second he was announced. >> reporter: earlier at the fbi the president said the fbi can interview anyone it wants to as investigators look into sexual misconduct claims against kavanaugh. >> i think the fbi should do what they have to do to get to the answer. >> reporter: kavanaugh denies all the allegations. >> a real investigation, it follows the facts. >> reporter: democrats sent the white house a list of 24 people they say should be interviewed. illinois senator dick durbin says republicans are trying to push kavanaugh through. >> the timetable was seven days. and i know that senate mcconnell's in a hurry, in a big hurry. he wants to get this done right away. >> reporter: senate majority leader mitch mcconnell scheduled a confirmation vote for friday. the same day the fbi is expected to turn in the results of the investigation. >> if you listen carefully, mr. president, you can practically hear the sounds of the democrats moving the goalpost. >> reporter: republican jeff flake is one of only a few senators still undecided.

>> there's a lot of doubt still. that's why it was important to have the fbi do more investigating and have more information, not less. >> reporter: because the fbi is not conducting a criminal investigation, none of the witnesses are being forced to cooperate. cbs news has confirmed the fbi has already interviewed three of the people christine blasey ford says were at the high school party when kavanaugh allegedly attacked her. his friends, mark judge and patrick p.j. smith, and a woman named leland kaiser. the fbi interviewed deborah ramirez over the weekend. she claims kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a dorm room party at a campaign promise met

and a breakthrough for u.s. workers. a brand-new deal. not nafta redone. >> reporter: president trump took a victory lap in the rose garden celebrating the u.s.-mexico-canada agreement. the president had been at odds with can aradian prime minister trudeau. >> a lot of stories came out about justin and i having difficulty together. we did over the trade deal. but i'll tell you, it's turned out to be a very, very good deal for both. >> reporter: canada has agreed to lift restrictions on its dairy market so u.s. farmers can export products more easily. the biggest impact it on the automobile industry. in order to avoid tariffs, the deal requires 75% of a car's component parts to be manufactured in north america, up from nafta's 62.5%. it also requires that at least

the day, hecs on the past year, releasing 58 doves, one for each victim. >> we can't let this define us and let evil win. we must continue to fight. i refuse to let it take one more thing from me. >> reporter: a memorial blood drive was also held in the city. >> it's heartwarming and speaks to the character of the people that are here and speaks to the character of las vegas. >> reporter: many say the pain is still fresh, one year later, they say vegas is stronger than ever before. chris martinez, cbs news, las vegas. it's been four days since a devastating earthquake and tsunami hit indonesia. for many the situation is dire. it's believed that hundreds of victims remain buried alive or otherwise under the rubble and the mud. the official death toll stands at over 1,200, but it's expected to reach into the thousands once rescue crews reach remote areas. in one neighborhood in the hard-hit city of palu, an

tropical storm rosa is threatening millions of people with flooding in the southwest. the storm dumped rain on parts of arizona yesterday and is continuing its projected path north. flood watches and warnings are posted today for arizona, southern california, nevada,jed investigatorors i.d. thehe bodya missing boy. those are some of t the headlin on the " "morning newsstand." york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. earlier reaction to the new north american free trade agreement faded on wall street. stocks finished mixed. larj large-caps rose and smaller caps lost ground. tariffs on imported vehicles are less likely now. energy companies got a boost when the price of u.s. crude oil rose closing at a four-year high. on wall street, the dow industrials rallied 192 points. the s&p 500 gained ten while the nasdaq lost nine. shares of tesla shot up monday rallying 17% after elon musk reached a settlement with federal regulators. the elecectric carmaker and mus agreed to pay a a combined $40 million after the sesec accused musk of securitities fraud. he's outut as chairman but remas third-quarter production left tesla near profitability. medicare is updating its website. new features include a questionnaire to help seniors

decide between original, government-run medicare, and private plans. it also has an online calculator, web chat option, and simplified login. the annual enrollment runs from october 15th to december 7th. that's when beneficiaries can shop for new plans or switch coverage if they choose. you become eligible when you turn 65. the nordic budget airline premier air shut down today, stranding thousands of passengers in north america and europe. premier air began operations in 2003 and served 97 destinations and more than 20 countries. many passengers didn't learn the news until they were about to depart. the airline was selling tickets even as rumors began to circulate that it was shutting down operations. passengers with premier tickets can try and get their money back from their credit card company or travel inrer. and general mills is bringing back the classic trix fruity shapes. general mills says fans of the cereal lobbied for its return.

our top stories this morning -- the white house says the fbi can interview anyone it wants as it investigates allegations of sexual misconduct against supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh. so far at least three people have been interviewed. the decision to allow an expanded investigation came over the weekend. the fbi must finish its work by friday. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says that he wants a vote this week. and president trump says that he wants to sign the new north american free trade agreement by the end of next month, but first it has to be approved by congress. the u.s.-mexico-canada agreement gives u.s. farmers greater access to canadian dairy markets and gives canada protection from tariffs imposed on cars and trucks imported to the u.s. it requires 40% to 45% of vehicles coming into the u.s. be

produced in plants paying at least $16 an hour. police in allentown, pennsylvania, are trying to figure out why a car burst into flames over the weekend killing a man, his son, and another man nearby. jericka duncan has details. is somebody in there? >> reporter: the huge explosion rocked this allentown neighborhood saturday night. [ sirens ] it shattered windows and turned this vehicle into a twisted fireball. >> i just heard the explosion. a big explosion like -- it scared me, startled me. i thought it was a house that blew up. >> reporter: authorities named the three victims. 26-year-old jacob schmoyer and r in the car that exploded. investigators say the third victim, 66-year-old david hulman, who knew schmoyer, was in close proximity to the vehicle. allentown police chief tony alslabin. >> the scene was probably the most horrific thing i've ever seen. it was a large scene.
