good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. federal investigators are working around the clock to find out who is responsible for sending crude bombs to prominent democrats and critics of president trump. packages were all intercepted before they could detonate and no one was hurt. we are now learning that investigators were trying to track down a suspicious package that they believe was addressed to former vice president joe biden, according to reuters. earlier, packages containing bombs were sent by mail or courier to president obama at his home in washington, d.c., bill and hillary clinton at their home in westchester county, new york, former cia director john brennan at c nrks nrks headquarters in work. the package delivered to eric hollered didn't arrive at the address it was intended and was

u.s. attorney general eric holder made a similar comment about the gop. >> when they go low, we kick them. >> reporter: triggering this response from president trump. >> he better be careful what he's wishing for, that i can tell you. he better are careful what he's wishing for. >> reporter: in august, the president revoked the security clearance for former cia director john brennan after slamming him for criticizing his handling of russian meddling. >> i think he's a total low life. >> reporter: weija jiang, cbs news, wisconsin. well now to the investigation into the death of "washington post" contributor jamal khashoggi. the post is reporting that cia director gina haspel listened to an audio recording capturing the interrogation and killing of jamal khashoggi in the consulate in istanbul. president trump is supposed to be briefed by haspel today. saudi arabia's crown prince mohammed bin salman vowed that his killers would be brought to justice.

and there are signs that a caravan heading for the u.s. border may be losing steam. as many as 5,000 migrants are camping overnight in southern mexico, more than 1,000 miles away from the u.s. border. they say more than 1700 people have applied for asylum in mexico and hundreds more have asked to be sent back to honduras. there were sharp losses in stock markets across asia this morning. it comes after wall street had another massive selloff yesterday. the dow plunged more than 600 points giving up what was left of it's gains for this year. same for the s&p 500. it fell 84 points. and the nasdaq closed down 389 points. it's the worseseven years. disappointing quarterly results from tech companies and poor forecasts from chip makers are partly to blame. and there's always the lottery to lift your spirits and

no one won last night's $621 million power ball jack pot. the numbers were three r 21, 45, 53, 56, and the power ball twenty 2. that means saturday's power ball jackpot will be $750 million. the fourth largest jackpot in u.s. history. what was thought to be the biggest lottery jackpot ever in u.s. history, turned out to be only the second biggest, but that's not bad. there was one winning ticket in tuesday's mega millions drawing. it was bought at the k.c. mart in simpsonville, south carolina. the ticket is worth $1.537 billion, just short of the record. >> they guessed wrong just by a bit of how many people would play the game. and that ended up skewing the fis >> we may never know who won the jackpot. south carolina allows winners to remain anonymous. coming up on "the morning

"the wall street journal" reports megyn kelly is expected to lose her show after her black face remarks. the paper reports the end of the show megyn kelly today is likely eminent and a replacement could be on air by next week. she has been under fire since tuesday when she questioned why a black face in a halloween costume was racist. the show has struggled in the ratings. time reports every public library may soon get the opioid overdose drug narcan for free. the maker of the drug said yesterday it will provide two doses of the nasal spray to more than 16,000 public libraries and 2,700 ymcas. the narcan kit can cost more than 1 hundred dollars. it already offers free doses to high schools and colleges. it's estimated opioid overdoses kill 115 americans every day. people magazine reports actress jamie lee curtis is

opening up about her decade-long opioid addiction and h sister helped save her life. curtis said she kept her addiction a secret from everyone until she stole her older sister's prescribed opioids. she said that her sister reacted with love and support which led the actress to seek treatment. the halloween star has been sober for almost 20 years and still attends recovery meetings to maintain her sobriety and help other addicts. the fda approved a new drug for the flu. the single-dose treatment works to short earn symptoms and suspect sold under the brand name xofluza. it should be taken with the first two days of symptoms. still to come, tesla delivers. the electric car company makes good on a promise to post a profit as it ramped up its production of the model 3.

during the third quarter. it earned more than $311 million during the three-month ending in september. that's compared to a $619 million loss at the same time last year. tesla fulfilled musk's plan to boost production of the model 3. it's only the third time they've posted a quarterly profit in its eight-year history for the company. delta says it plans to ban the use of plastic straws, stir sticks, wrappers and utensils on flights and in airport sky clubs by next year. the air carrier says it will replace plastic straws and stirrers with bamboo straws and birch stir sticks. it plans to do away with plastic wrapping from amenities in its business class. it removed plastic from its cutlery and coach class in april. the moves is followed by united, american, and alaska airlines. chevron has agreed to a

midterm elections, security officials are working to protect our voting s. nicole killian has details. >> reporter: it only took seconds for security expert to hack into this voting machine. >> there's no way of knowing that any of this happened. >> reporter: he is an organizer with defcon, one of the world's largest hacking conventions where even kids were able to penetrate voting systems. >> there are hundreds and hundreds of known vulnerabilities in these machines. >> reporter: like a machine used in 18 states hacked in two minutes. a voting tab lator used in 23 states could flip the outcome of a presidential election and a security flaw in that same unit still hasn't been fixed. >> you wouldn't use ten-year-old laptop with no updates. that would be stupid. >> reporter: protecting the infrastructure is high for the department of security which is deploying sensors to protect intrusions from countries like russia.
