good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. president trump is back in washington this morning after making the first stop on an eight-state preelection rally effort to energize republican voters. last night he was outside ft. myers, florida. he fueled fears of immigration and blamed what he called the far left media for dividing the country. laura poe laeft is here with more. good morning. >> good morning. >> he is focusing on senate and governor. he'll be in missouri tonight and eventually hit indiana, montana, west virginia, ohio, tennessee and georgia over the next few days..hethe midterm elections. >> the people of florida are going to send rick scott to the

people who simply tell the truth. >> reporter: former president obama and oprah winfrey will also be out campaigning for democrats in the next few days. during the rallies, president trump continued to attack the media saying it's creating division around immigration and underestimating the migrant caravans which are a lot bigger, he said, than what's being reported. anne-marie. >> thanks a lot, laura. one of the campaign stops the president will make is in georgia. voters are choosing a new governor in a closely watched race.e ouiffere >> reporter: stacey abrams fires up the crowd. she's already made history as the nation's first african-american woman nominated for governor. now she's hoping for strong finish.

shooting will be in court today. he was charged with offenses that could bring the death penalty. authorities say he shot and killed 11 people at the tree of life synagogue as he raged against jews. prosecutors say they will seek justice for the victims. three more victims were buried yesterday and more funerals will be held through the rest of the week. the deaths of two saudi arabian sisters remain a mystery. their bodies washed up on the new york city waterfront eight days ago and now police say they were alive when they went into the water. jericka duncan has details. >> reporter: the body of sisters were found off the river. they were similarly dressed and bound together at their ankles and waist with duct tape. >> we are out to get justice for those two girls and to find out

exactly what happened, what led them to be recovered in the water. >> reporter: cbs news learned the sisters were alive when they entered the water. right now the cause of death has not been determined. the sisters lived in fairfax, virginia. police say they were last seen there in late september but say what happened after that remains a mystery. >> at this point in time it still has not been deemed a homicide. >> reporter: an nypd source tells cbs news that the mother who lived in virginia told police she received a call from the saudi government in october telling the family they all had to go back to saudi arabia because the sisters had applied for immigration asylum. >> we are looking at all clues in their past life. >> reporter: right now police are calling the deaths suspicious and the investigation has been hampered by the fact that there's virtually no digital footprint. the sisters did not have registered phones and apparently no social media presence. well, jamal khashoggi was

strangled almost as soon as he entered the consulate in istanbul according to a top turkey prosecutor. the office of the chief prosecutor of istanbul said this was part of a premeditated murder. he also said khashoggi's body was dismembered and destroyed before it was removed. turkey alleges a saudi hit squad is responsible. khashoggi was last seen entering the consulate on october 2nd and the whereabouts of his remains are unknown. it's reported that one suspect in the former boston mob boss whitey bullar is a fellow inmate and hit man. he was killed just hours after being transferred to a prison in west virginia. bulger was a known niche. freddie diaz who reportedly hates rats is suspected. one of bulger's attorneys says bulger was in a wheelchair when. "toston obe" rorts his death wagnolable.

meeting with students, department chairs, and other campus leadership. mcnair's father reacted to the news that coach durkin was fired. >> relief. a gratifying sense of relief for not only my family, but jordan's teammates as well. >> lowe says he still plans on retiring at the end of the academic year. the new york times reports on two studies warning against using minimally invasive surgery for cervical cancer. the studies published in the new england journal of medicine found less invasive surgery was more likely to lead to the recurrence of cancer and death. that's compared to patients who underwent a more invasive hysterectomy. some hospitals have stopped performing the minimally invasive procedure. recent republican changes to the affordable care enrollment

yesterday wall street stocks did finish higher for the second day in a row. the dow climbed 241 points, the s&p 500 gained twenty nine, but lost nearly 7% of its value last month, it's worst month since 2011. the nasdaq rallied 144. general motors is offering buyouts to 18,000 workers in north america. salary workers with 12 or more years of service are eligible. gm says it wants to continue efforts to reduce costs while it's strong. yesterday they announced a $2.5 billion third quarter profit. more than 1500 google employees reportedly plan to walk off the job today to protest how google has handled sexual harassment. the protest walk out for real change will take place at 26 google offices around the world. "the new york times" reports walkout organizers want google to end its practice of private arbitration. that requires employees to wave

their right to sue in cases of alleged sexual assault and harassment. last week the times reported on android software received a $90 million severance package after he was accused of sexual misconduct. scooters use batteries that may catch fire. they learned about this problem in this model in august. it's not known how it got here. bird experts say it may be someone's pet that got away. it's illegal to have one in new york. the city doesn't plan on moving the duck unless it's in danger or sick. and scientists in switzerland are doing what was once thought impossible, helping paralyzed people walk again. it's being done with the help of a small device. tina krause explains. >> reporter: david was paralyzed for seven years until one of switzerland's leading neurosurgeons gave him a spinal implant that changed his life. here he is training with it a year ago. when the device is turned off, he can't move. when it's on, he continues to walk. >> this little device that is a impulse generator is giving impulses to the electrode that's located on the spinal cord. >> reporter: david can control the stimulation remotely through his watch. when it's on he's able to walk

in and arrested him for showing them how to build and blow up a bomb. the sting operation lasted nearly two years. here's how it went down. according to documents just unsealed, ahmad first told an fbi criminal informant back in december of 2016 that he knew how to detonate a bomb by using a cellular phone. he allegedly said the bombs were easy to make and that he learned how do it during the war in iraq. sources tell cbs news ahmad is an iraqi refugee who is now a u.s. citizen. prosecutors say ahmad was asked by the informant how to make a car bomb for a target in mexico. he agreed and provided instructions on his cell phone and later sent a text message with a bomb recipe written in arabic. undercover fbi agents say ahmadf ahmad also brought some of his
