quickly towards a satisfactory resolution to negotiations with your employees. we'll have much more on this developing story tonight on 5 news at 5 and 6:00. housing activists are protesting against the development of luxury apartments in neighborhoods where people who don't make a lot of money are being forced out. demonstrators in the mission held signs like these calling attention to the affordable housing crisis here in san francisco. membersof the mission development agencies are upset that a property owner rejected their offer to purchase a lot on 22 and mission. it had previously been the site of low income housing but vacant since a fatal fire in 2018. >> this is the worse insult to our community we cannot allow this to happen to have luxury units built here because this fire represents death and so that's why today, we want to honor those who have passed

away in this neighborhood. >> the community group was hoping to build affordable housing for the displaced tenants and other low income people who live in that neighborhood. today's protest began with a moment of silence for marcurio, the 38-year-old man who died in that fire in 2015. 5 others were injured and nearly 70 people were left homeless in that fire. today, the city of san francisco is celebrating day of the dead with a procession starting at garfield park at 7 p.m. a similar celebration is going to take place in oakland's fruit vail district on sunday. mexicans have been celebrating since precolumbian times this is how people in mexico city are marking the occasion today. the holiday is a time to celebrate life and honor deceased relatives and ancestors with an afrenda, it is an alter decorated with flowers, candles, pictures of the deceased as well as their
