morning from the studio 57 newsroom here in new york. good to be with you. i'm ann marie green. americans go to the polls today following a contentious campaign. in many see their ballot as a rev ren rum on president trump. what many consider a racially charged campaign to motivate republicans. in cape gerardo missouri. good morning nicole. >> the white house says he plans to spend the day making calls and monitoring races throughout the country.

>> president trump is hoping his campaign gets his supporters to the polls today. >> in a sense, i am on the ticket. >> according to cbs news more than 30% of the voters says he is a factor in their vote. >> democrats produce mobs that's what's happened. republicans produce jobs. >> traveling to ohio, indiana, and missouri yesterday, president trump rallied with gop candidates in tight races. mr. trump won missouri by 18 points in 2016. josh holy is hoping the president's support helps succeed democratic. >> if i go to washington i won't owe anybody. >> candidates around the country are saying this is the most important election of a lifetime

and voters seem to agree. early voting numbers have far exceeded midterms. >> el paso passed out 3 more times than they did in the last election. if that trend continue the tomorrow we will win. >> beto orork is hoping for a surprise victory. >> with the economy booming in texas who in their right mind would want to screw that up. >> that same cbs news tracker used that to take a slight edge over the house. >> and if democrats are successful they plan to stoi the agenda. the race for governor in georgia is a bitter and hotly contested race. her opponent georgia's secretary

of state brian kemp allegation alleges the state tried to hack the history. >> georgiaen democrats see it has a last stitch effort by the republican to undermind his opponent. both of them have called this match up a battle for georgia's soul. >> one of the most hotly contested races this election day is heating up even more. and the first black woman in u.s. history in any state. she's up against republican brian kemp who is now accusing her party of a cyber attack. though he's offering very little evidence to support the claim. >> i can tell you i would not be

calling homeland security, the fbi, and the gbi unless we had information that we need to look at in regards of this matter. >> the way he was managing the state's voter database. often to enforce federal and state election flaws. >> instead of addressing the mrau and taking responsibility he decided to go to a desperate place. >> early voting has already set a record with more than 2 million georgians casting ballots. >> because georgia law requires a majority to win, the presence of a third party candidate on the ballot means it's possible that what happens today may not be the end of the story. if neither abrams or kemp passes

that there will be a runoff in december. as we reported it appears democrats have a slight edge to retake control of the house. cbs news congressional correspondent nancy cordis reports. breaking news on the senate will be a lot tougher. >> in the senate there are 35 seats up for grabs. that's because 26 of those seats are already controlling by democrats. they've got to protect all of those seats and pick up two of the 9 seats controlled by republicans .09 seats controlled by republicans just how the map shape up here. now in the house where everyone is up for re-election democrats have a lot of avenues they believe to pick up the 23 seats they need. and that's because there are about 66 seats in place and all by 6 of them are controlled by

republicans. record numbers of young voters are expected to cast ballots. 40% of 18 to 29-year-olds are willing to vote. >> are you voting tomorrow? or have you already voted? >> millennials now outnumber boomers in america but the potential to be the biggest voting block. the question is, will they go to the polls. >> the group next gen started the get out the votes event a year ago. the effort seems to be working compared with the 2014 midterms. 18 to 29-year-olds are really showing up for early voting. in several hotly contested races including arizona, florida, georgia and nevada. >> have you been surprised by how many young people have come
