oaks. chris, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. we are learning more about the victims here. those victims include an 18-year-old college freshman, a former high school coach, and a survivor of the las vegas shooting massacre. this morning investigators still working to answer the question why. [ gunshots ]. >> reporter: this is video from inside the thousand oaks california bar as a gunman opened fire killing 12 people. among the victims, tell orfanos who was also at the las vegas shooting where 58 people died. >> i don't want prayers, i don't want thoughts, i want gun control and i hope to god nobody else sends me anymore prayers. >> reporter: sheriff sergeant helus is being called a hero. he rushed into the borderline bar and confrom theed the gunman. >> he went in thereoavpeople ma

>> reporter: hundreds people lined the road for the procession, hundreds of others showed up to give blood. 'm doi deputy's wife and my cousin was there and she survived. >> reporter: police say almost 200 people were inside the bar when 28-year-old ian long opened fire. survivors used barstools to break windows and escape. at a vigil last night in thousand oaks, the mayor said they are, quote, a hurting city and will rely on unity and hope to move forward. >> my first born son. >> jason coffman says his 22-year-old son cody was planning to join the military. >> only him and howuch i love -- how much i miss. >> reporter: investigators are still searching for a motive. we know the gunman was a former marine who served one tour of duty in afghanistan. neighbors who knew him believe

investigation. ♪ >> there were about 900 demonstrations yesterday. this came one day after jeff sessions was forced out at attorney general. president trump named whitaker has his replacement. whitaker has voiced his concern over the russia investigation. rick scott is asking for a recount. last night he accused the broward county prosecutor brenda sniepds of purposely trying to steal the election from him. tuesday the vote gap between scott and his democratic challenger for senate has narrowed as mail-in and provisional ballots are counted. rouge bader ginsberg is in the hospital in washington this morning afterhree ribs in a fall.

she's the court's oldest member. she fell wednesday in her office and then went home before going to the hospital early yesterday morning. tests confirmed she fractured several ribs. her nephew says that ginsberg is up and working and cracking jokes. of course she is. coming up on "the morning news" now, curbing e-cigarettes. the government is set to announce strict limits on the fast-growing industry. and questionable footage. a clip of a white house inciden distributed by the trump administration appears to be doctored. this is the "cbs morning news." took part in the procedure and doctors say the next 24 to 48 hours will be critical for the girls. there are plans to limit the sales of e-cigarettes and the latest on the duck boat investigation. those are some of the headlines on the morning news stand. the tri-lakes news reports the captain of a duck boat that sank in missouri killing 17 people has been indicted by a federal grand jury. the tourist boat sank in a storm in july. near branson. prosecutors say 51-year-old kenneth scott keyes alleged misconduct, negligence, and inattention to duty caused or contributed to the death dollars. they say that he failed to assess the incoming weather and didn't tell passengers to put on life jackets. "the washington post" reports the fda is expected to impose curbs on e-cigarette sales. it's concerned about a surge in vaping by children and teenagers. the post says the fda is expected to announce a ban on the saleft

on the "cbs moneywatch" now, the newest inductees in the toy hall of fam. and google announces new sexual harassment policies. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning. >> let's start with a recap of stocks. they closed mostly lower thursday after the federal reserve kept interest rates unchanged. energy shares slipped after a ninth straight daily decline in oil prices. ultimately the dow rose 10 points, the s&p 500 dropped 7 and the nasdaq fell 39. google is reforming its sexual assault and harassment rules after a worldwide employee protest. the ceo detailed changes yesterday. these include elimination of forced arbitration in harassment and discrimination cases. this comes a week after google workers walked leniency towards executives accused of sexual miscop duct.

volkswagen plans to sell cars to tesla. they are expected to sell some models for less than $23,000. this comes as many cities start to ban diesel engine vehicles. and the stringent and new rules came after volkswagen was found to have cheated on emissions test of its diesel vehicles. meanwhile, disney came up with the name that the rival netflix. disney plus will launch in 2019 and it will carry pass titles and original series. bob iger announced new details about the service during the company's earning call yesterday. iger said new content from franchise like "star wars" and marvel is expected. disney will pull all of its movies from netflix in 2019. and the toy hall of fame announced the 2018 inductees. the magic eight ball, uno and pin ball are receiving the honor and recognition of their staying power and influence. they will be on permanent

about 5,000 migrants have spent the last few days in mexico city in a stadium there resting as they make their way towards the border. the caravan's coordinator says they offered buses for women and children, but they want them for everyone. u.s. marines are in place helping border agents as a crossing near san diego. last month president trump ordered thousands of troopsed to the border in response to the caravan. as of wednesday, more than 5,600 troops had been deployed to california, texas, and arizona. the marines are installing razor wire and erecting tents to how's members of the military and the border patrol. and ceremonies are taking place across the world to mark the end uh world war i that took place about a century ago. poppies were placed on the front lawn of the parliament to commemorate armistice day. it marks the signing of the ceasefire between the allies and germany on november 11th, 1980

our top story this morning. wildfires are causing massive destruction and threatening communities across california. the campfire is located 180 miles northeast of san francisco. it has burned 20,000 acres and engulfed the entire town of paradise. fire officials estimate thousands of homes were destroyed. in southern california, wildfires forced evacuations in ventura and l.a. counties. and hundreds gathered in thousand oaks, california, last night to mourn those who died in the mass shooting at the borderline bar and grill. authorities are still searching for a motive after a gunman entered the bar wednesday night and killed 12 people before
