57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york, i'm tony dokoupil in for anne-marie green. black friday shoppers are ss country. many retailers offered early black friday deals yesterday and promised more through the weekend. thanks to a booming economy, they expect americans to spend more than a trillion dollars this holiday season. laura podesta has more from new york. good morning. >> for many out there black friday deals are the new dessert after thanksgiving dinner. but if you're heading out the door this morning, you're joining the 116 million americans that the national retail federation estimates will be in search of a bargain. >> three, two, one. >> black friday started on thanksgiving thursday for these shoppers at macy's flagship city.

>> that's a new level of shoppers' paradise. >> it's a growing trend that turns the weekend into a five-day shopping holiday. >> for the entire weekend we're expecting more than with about 70% of those shopping specifically on black friday. >> many waited for hours in long lines to snag a deal. >> all that time outside in the cold was worth it. >> definitely. >> 70 inch tv for 600 bucks, you'd have to be insane to give that up. >> others hit the malls. >> i'm looking for the great deals. >> big box stores like best buy, target, and walmart are featuring deep discounts to draw customers. shoppers scrambled for tvs at this walmart in south carolina. other retailers are offering special promotions. this woman scored a $500 coupon at jc penney. >> i wasn't expecting a coupon at all, definitely not this. >> shopping together on black friday is a family tradition. r.

galleria in hoover. police say a fight between two people, including an 18-year-old ended in a gunfire exchange outside foot action store. shooter fled but was confront and fatally shot by police. the hoover police captain said a 12-year-old female was also struck with a bullet. >> unfortunately if you get thousands and thousands of people together in any venue, occasionally you're going to have violence. and unfortunately and sadly for us it happened tonight. >> the injured 18-year-old is hospitalized in serious condition. the 12-year-old was transported to children's hospital and is believed to be conscious, alert, and talking, that's good news. the mall is closed until further notice. armed gunmen stormed the chinese consulate in pakistan this morning triggering a violent shootout. at least two police officersd, were also killed during the attack. no chinese diplomats or staff were harmed.

former fbi director james comey and former attorney general loretta lynch to testify in a closed door interview concerning the 2016 election. the interviews would be looking into the fbi's actions in the hillary clinton e-mail probe and the investigation into the trump campaign and russia. comey tweeted that he will answer questions but, quote, will resist a closed-door thing because i've seen enough of their, he means republicans, selective leaking and distortion. comey has been told to appear before the committee december 3rd. former attorney general loretta lynch is being asked to testify december 4th. police say icy roads may have been a factor in the rollover of a charter bus carrying members of the university of washington marching band. rstate 90 yesterday near george, about 150 miles east of seattle. the bus was carrying 56 people, 25 student were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
