contra costa county in unincorporated contra costa. john ramos is live with the latest. >> reporter: this is county property, which is the reason why sheriff's deputies are handling the case. we don't have a lot of at the details. we're told at about 9:30 this morning, a sheriff's deputy was patrolling here and happened to spot a suspect that he believed was wanted. he pulled over and tried to engage the suspect. there may have been a short chase down adelaide street, the next block up, and shots were fired. someone near the area here was telling me he thought he heard five shots. suspect was put down. he was ill custody. and -- killed. and as i understand, he's a male suspect. we don't have any other information other than that. the sheriff is checking out the information now and we'll be

coming back with that a little later. for now, that's all we know. one suspect has been shot by deputies and killed near adelaide street near the southern border of martinez. reporting live, john ramos, kpix 5. and a final farewell to president george h.w. bush. somehow thousand -- thousands of people uding dignitaries from around the world attended the funeral. kilauea is in washington with the emotional good-bye. >> reporter: it was a remarkable scene inside of the national cathedral as a who's who of u.s. and world leaders came together to honor a president and a patriot. the flag draped casket carrying president george h.w. bush arrived at the national cathedral for his state funeral.

new at noon, the city of oakland taking steps in the past few hours to evict a homeless encampment in book field. and neighbors and -- brook field. and neighbors and residents are not going away quietly. it's kauled housing conscious called -- called housing in dignity village. the city cleared the camp if residents were given 72 hours notice. this morning, they said they're not giving up and the village provides what the city does not. >> we have no shelters and nowhere to go and feed our people. we have one place in our community and they don't give out hot food. >> and the encampment is mostly children and women of color and drug use is not allowed there. the city administrator says it has shelter beds ready for the 13 residents of the village when it's shut down. and two people treated for injuries after a nasty brek this morning in -- wreck this
