house intelligence committee next year, said president trump may be guilty of felony crimes outlined in friday's sentencing memo of his former lawyer, michael cohen. after federal prosecutors in new york's southern district said cohen paid off trump's alleged mistresses "to influence the 2016 presidential election in coordination with and at the direction of" president trump, referred to as "individual one." >> there is a very real prospect that on the day donald trump leaves office, the justice department may indict him. >> there is no reason to not stand by anybody in this moment. >> reporter: republicans, like senator marco rubio, are withholding judgment. >> clearly these are things that are to be taken into account and seriously. and i would caution everyone to just continue to wait until this plays out. >> reporter: the president was asked about the development on saturday. >> as far as the report that we see, according to everybody i've spoken to, i have not read it. there is absolutely no collusion, which is very important.

influence the 2016 election. comey did not get into who those four americans are, but we know that trump campaign foreign policy advisors, george papadopoulos and carter page, had attracted suspicion because of their contacts with russian operatives. republicans were hoping for more revealing information on comey's role in the clinton private email server during the hearing, which comey initially wanted in a public setting rather than behind closed doors. >> when you read the transcript, you will see that we are still talking about hillary clinton's e-mails for heaven's sake. so, i'm not sure we need to do this at all. >> reporter: comey disputed the president's allegation that he and special counsel robert mueller are best friends, comey also told lawmakers that he didn't believe firing mueller alone would be enough to derail the investigation. he is expected back on capitol hill later this month. elaine? >> quijano: all right, jeff,
