departing flights are being delayed 16-45 minutes because of the winds. >> mary lee is tracking storm conditions right now. we are tracking this cold front that is triggering rain as well as picking up the winds for us. let's show you the doppler. across the north day you can see showers and along the coast. we are tracking showers down through san jose and campell. as we head through the rest of the afternoon and evening we are looking at light rain with breezy conditions. tomorrow we get a break and we are mainly dry but we have

showers for the north bay. today rain and wind and the main concern will be the afternoon and evening commute that looks wet today. we will talk about what you can expect with that second storms coming up. a steep plunge on wall street this afternoon. the dow is down about 469 points . traders are worried about slow economic growth and the britain's plans to exit the european union. a heads up for drivers. the traffic nightmare continues in union city as work crews are making water main repairs on a major roadway. >> reporter: if you thought this was an easy repair guess again. this is one of the most

challenging repairs they have ever seen and you could call it a perfect storm of complications. >> it just happened to be in a very challenging location. >> that is putting it mildly. >> it is a challenging repair. >> it is a big water main, 14 inches in diameter and it is 8 feet underground and sits below the water table which means the whole they have dug around it fills up with water that has to be pumped out and it is steps away from an active railroad. the water district says this is their highest priority right now. >> i have been here 27 years and in terms of rakes i have seen this is probably in the top five. >> this was the scene yesterday when union city boulevard looked like an aqueduct with hundreds of thousands of gallons of water flooding the streets. a pg&e contractor was installing a new pipe band the busted water main is right here.

to blame for this? >> i don't want to speculate what the cause of the break is at this time. >> there is no estimate for the time of repair but you should check before you go home today or avoid the area if possible. traffic will likely be a huge headache tonight in union city. an investigation is underway into mountain view after police found a man's body this morning outside of a mcdonald's. this is near el camino real. police say there is no threat to the public. two separate crashes and suspected drunk drivers are being investigated in campell. a driver lost control and slammed into a tree. yocan seis scattered everywhere. police believe speed was a factor. the driver was taken to the hospital but no word on his condition. it was a similar situation in

south josi with a call for a downed tree but when crews arrived they saw the car had knocked down the tree and the man was still inside. that man went to the hospital and police are investigating. ice has released new statistics that the streets are getting safer but and shows us one -- one group sees otherwise. >> around 3000 people came here to protest immigration crackdowns in the u.s.. >> we are trying to call attention to what ice is doing. >> today's rally outside of ice headquarters comes as the federal government releases new statistics saying they arrested almost 160,000 undocumented immigrants this year which is a jump from last year and that 90% of them had criminal convictions, pending charges or

will hold future demonstrations here and in downtown france -- san francisco. police and the netherlands are investigating the murder of an american student. the girls roommate is under arrest. >> dutch police were called to this apartment building after neighbors heard arguing and screaming. officers found sarah papenheim in a pool of blood. the minnesota native was stabbed to death at her home wednesday not far from the university where she was studying. the prime suspect is her roommates, a 23-year-old dutch man. he was arrested at a train station attempting to flee the city. her classmates are shocked. >> it is a lot of sadness and fear in case something like this may happen again. >> her mother is left grieving thousands of miles away and said her are -- daughter was arguing with her roommate four

weeks. sarah papenheim was studying psychology and reportedly chose her major after her brother committed suicide three years ago. her mother told a minnesota newspaper, my only two kids and i have lost them both. she was a skilled drummer that performed often in minnesota's music scene. >> i still can't believe something this bad happened to her. she was such a great d.>> thmur before she was set to fly home for christmas. a community is in morning and teachers are remembering her for her love of percussion and as a vibrant light around campus. >> she found things to be involved with and wherever she was music was a constant in her

life. >> her music teacher said she wanted to be a drmer. a bomb threat to forces children at sandy hook elementary school to go home for the day on the 60 year anniversary of the mass shooting that left 20 students and teachers dead. the superintendent decided to cancel the remaining classes today and it is not clear if the threat was related to other threats made nationwide yesterday. the fbi is hunting for whoever is behind a string of bomb threat across the u.s. and canada. dozens of threats were received by companies and institutions yesterday. all of the messages contain a poorly worded demand for $20,000 in the it's going. president donald trump's former attorney michael cohen is speaking out after being sentenced to prison. he is dead hush money payment

some new photos of the mars are coming in and this one was stitched together from 11 images. before it did anything it had to take a selfie with a robotic arm. it will soon set up shop using scientific instruments to measure the conditions above and below the surface. facebook has revealed it exposed the private photos of nearly 7 million users without their permission. a bug allowed third-party app developers to access the photos. facebook is expected to notify those infected. a generous donation to help families in need. >> elizabeth cook has details.

these areas are getting light rain and you can see out of the san jose camera there are raindrops on the live camera. temperatures currently are in the 50s and low 60s. oakland you are at 56 degrees. it is 58 degrees in san francisco. not only are we talking about later rain but we are also tracking strong winds kicking up with this cold front pushing through. they are picking up at 19 miles per hour at half moon bay. 21 sustained winds in oakland this is the reason, we have this upper-level low bringing this cold front our way. it is a weak front which is why we are looking at light rain but breezy conditions. through the rest of the afternoon you can see those showers and this evening for your commute it does look wet

with scattered showers. we catch a break for saturday and we could see showers first thing saturday morning. going through the day we are mainly dry although you could see a few showers for the north bay. that stronger system arrives sunday early with light rain and then heavy rain going through the afternoon into sunday evening. sundays storm is the one to watch. here is what you can expect today. daytime highs are in the upper 50s and low to mid 60s. light rain with this cold fronts. we get a break saturday but that stronger storm will be sunday. we will be watching. 2018 has been a busy year for the royal family. >> they are spreading holiday
