anne makovec who was live at the scene in san francisco this afternoon with the very latest. anne? >> reporter: yeah right now firefighters are looking at the possibility that christmas decorations may have originally sparked this fire. it started on the second story street. and the couple who lived above it was trapped. at about 1:00 this morning, an elderly couple was asleep in a third story bedroom as a fire ignited in their second story living room. blocking the staircase they normally use to get out. >> the windows would have been the only way for them to escape. and that just was not possible at this time. >> reporter: when firefighters arrived on scene, they tried to rescue the couple. but the man was pronounced dead once they pulled him out. the woman was taken to the conditional. severe burns in a firefighter was also burned as he and s alitcrewic entered the front door. >> once they got in the fire rolled over them. and actually knocked one of

them over a little porch area there. >> reporter: he was taken to the withburns to his neck and hands. treated and released. so the investigation into the cause continues this afternoon. the house itself structurally will be able to stand. but obviously significant damage sustained. live in san francisco, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> all right anne thank you. >> all right a very rainy christmas eve today, a storm has rolled in from the gulf of alaska. a live look on the left at san francisco's ocean beach. and on the right, downtown san jose. you can see the rain drops on the lens on your shot on the right and then the live look once again at ocean beach. you can see the set and the waves rolling right in. lot of gray out there. meteorologist mary lee has been monitoring the conditions so how long will the rain stick around? >> well, we're actually going to see heavy rain and strong winds actually get really kick up for us. so in the afternoon, we're going to see increasing rain and winds so this is just the

start. so a live look with our bay bridge cam. you can see the wet conditions out there. hi-def doppler let's show you that and locations getting even moderate to heavy rainfall for the north bay. so gunville down through windsor and lark field and santa rosa you are getting soaking right now and down through san after quell and mill valley -- rafael and mill valley and right around the richmond-san rafael bridge getting the light rain pushing over the golden gate bridge and the bay bridge into the east bay. also tracking showers from san mateo light rain. this is all ahead of a strong cold front that's going to push across the area this afternoon and into the evening. and so that's why we're looking at heavy rain and strong winds and the possibility of a brief heavy downpour. or an isolated thunderstorm with this storm here. coastal flood advisory because of this due to the king tides as well. minor coastal flooding low-

lying areas along the made coast. this is in effect until -- immediate coast. this is in effect until 2:00m.. more about the timing coming up. michelle. mary thank you. king tides are expected to hit the bay area coastline today. king tides happen when the gravitational pull of the sun and moon align. flooding, if any is expected to be minor. but people are warned to watch for wet roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots. the national weather service issued a coastal flood advisory that expires at 2:00 tomorrow. and a live look at sfo right now and an emergency landing happened here earlier this morning. a united flight was grounded just before 10:30 this morning after mechanical issue was reported. however, flight 519 landed safely just 20 minutes after it took off from sfo. and a vacaville man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting a 17-year- old in rly rninconfrontation. police say9-year-oldn was sittcrorodhe was

proachedy a group of five people. that's when some kind of argument began. the man then left and allegedly went to retrieve his gun. a short time later, police say someone in the group threw a bottle at the 39-year-old man and that's when he fired a single shot, shooting a 17-year- old. the victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. the 39-year-old has been booked into the jail on suspicion of murder. a man was shot and killed in san francisco's india basin neighborhood early this morning. the shooting was reported at 1:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of evans avenue. officers found a crashed car and the driver was suffering from gun shout wound. he die -- shot wounds. police are iti enr cantf ondied d ca fir accident early this morning at highway 1 at salmon creek

beach. both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for nearly six hours as crews put out the vehicle fire and then removed car off the beach and on to the highway. the name of the victim hasn't been released and no word yet on what caused the accident. the volcano continues to erupt in indonesia increasing the possibility another tsunami could be triggered. scientists are looking into the chances of a second tsunami occurring any time soon. and indonesia's national disaster agency is cautioning residents to remain vigilant and aw meanwhile, the search for survivors continues after a surprise nighttime tsunami struck that coastline. at least 373 people have now been killed with the death toll expected to rise with the search efforts. 1500 people have been reportedly injured and thousands more have lost their homes. the tsunami is believed to have been caused by the crack toe

front that will bring increasing rain and strong winds. so hi-def doppler radar we've got it going for you this afternoon. and tracking some heavy rain up across the north bay right now. that's just the tail end of that cold front. and it will push across the rest of the we go through the afternoon and for this evening. so here's hi-def doppler radar and zooming in to the north bay you can see getting that heavy rain from againville down through santa rosa and rohnert park and dylan beach. moderate to heavy rainfall. some light rain down through mill valley and sausalito. over the golden gate. the richmond-san rafael bridge getting that wet weather and then heading across the san francisco right over chinatown, you can see that light rain there. as we head to the east bay, from burk lee down through -- berkeley down through oakland and alameda. getting the wet weather this afternoon. down across the peninsula,

belmont as well as woodside and portola valley and palo alto and los altos you can see the light rain this afternoon. this is a live look with the san jose cam. and you can see the rain drops on our live cam. temperatures right around 60 in concord and 54 in oakland and 57 in livermore. downtown san francisco as well as for san jose at 56 and santa rosa at 52. not just talking about heavy rain. but also heavy snow. we are looking at that heavy snow, as much as 2 feet of snow in the highest peaks. there's the upper level low that will swing a cold front our way to bring the rain as well as the winds. timing it out for you on futurecast, things really get going in the afternoon. this is at 3:00 a.m. and the yellow and arrange colors indicating -- orange colors indicating brief heavy downpours and a brief isolated thunderstorm as well. 11:00 p.m. looking at scattered showers and then we clear out quite nicely headingly tomorrow morning. for -- through tomorrow morning for christmas day. looking at the sunshine as well as in the afternoon. the winds aren't going to pick
