the gunman is in the country illegally. >> we have identified a suspect we a activy pursvele we have spared no expense. we have multiple teams out following up every lead. and we will relentlessly continue to hunt our suspect down and bring him to justice. >> the suspect who shot and killed 33-year-old officer ronil singh in a traffic stop in the central valley town of newman was captured on surveillance video before the shooting. his truck was found in a mobile home park outside of newman. the killing rocked the small community and the police department. >> you have to understand this was i've been to too many of these funerals. and i nei would give anything n

i did not know christmas morning at 4:00 in the morning when i said good-bye to him and sent him off to his family that it would be the last time that i saw him. >> officer singh had been on the newman police force for more than seven years. he was a k-9 officer specializing in narcotics. n. a jung just suspended -- judge just suspended criminal procedurings for the man charged in a deadly b.a.r.t. station stabbing. he is suffering from extreme delusions and paranoia and the judge is calling for two court- appointed psychiatrists to evaluate him. he's charged with slashing the

throat of nia wilson as she stepped off the train at the station in july. prosecutors describe the united states of america as a random act of violence. the search is on for an inmate who escaped from a san quentin prison. >> reporter: an inmate escaped overnight. every night, the prison has an institutional count that happens around 9:30. that's about the time they noticed he was gone. by they realized that. he had gotden his hands on a get away car. he is 21-year-olds. shalom mendoza is his name. last seen wearing a white t- shirt and khaki wants. he has a scar above his right eye and a tattoo on the right side of his neck. he car jacked a victim a short time later. this is the license plate on a rav 4. this carjacking

happened about a mile away at a home depot parking lot. he walked up and moethsed like he had a gun and took the keys and fled. the victim was not injured. >> the description given by the victim and what was proefded were almost identical. so that was an investigative lead we are currently following up on. >> reporter: here's mendoza. he's serving a sentence for using a deadly weapon during a carjacking in los angeles county and driving recklessly trying to evade police. call 911 if you see him. new at noon, a tree came crashing down on to a box truck after the truck hit a branch. this was in san francisco nabld this morning. the tree blocked both lanes of traffic on hey street at franklin. nobody was hurt. and a live look outside. a little breezy. the trees are moving along and

organizations big and small are making a huge difference for local food banks this holiday season. elizabeth cook shows us how a group of boy scouts is stepping up in the food drive. >> reporter: i'm at the community food bank and right now, dozens of volunteers are sorting through millions of pounds of food for the people who need it the most. one in five people in alameda county will receive services from the food bank and it's thanks to the generous doe face notions of donations of people in the community. and they raised $3,395. >> we raised the money on online donations and collected food from people in piedmont. >> reporter: so generous. the drive is still going on? >> yes, it is. >> reporter: and you collected food on doorsteps. how much food have you collected? >> over 1,000 pounds. >> reporter: when you talk

serena williams is backing new rules to help tennis players who want to have children. >> she is supporting the changes made under which a
