caltrans crews to remove a tree. the tree was leaning over a sound wall near lake shore avenue and polk boulevard. within the last hour, crews used a pole saw to bring down two sections of the tree. the westbound lanes of the freeway had to be closed. now let's get to live pictures right now. crews are still out there. one lane of westbound 580 is still blocked as the cleanup continues. but the last of that tree is now on the shoulder, as you can see. and crews are feeding it into a woodchipper. chp tweeted this photo earlier. it's not clear if it was bad roots or this morning's strong winds that took the tree down. >> and new video showing just how goov nierkelelarge tree cam narrowly missing a home. it did break the porch railing.

>> reporter: in san jose kiet do. peek people in oakland may have spotted a fire from an rv fire. the fire was reported around 7:30. no one was inside the rv at the time. one person outside suffered smoke inhalation. police say it was gunfire from a new years celebration that left a six-year-old girl injured in oakland. sometime before 2:00 a.m., the girl was playing in her backyard in the 9600 block of thermal street during a family party when she was hit by a stray bullet. a family member drove her to the nearby hospital and she was later transferred to children's hospital where she is in stable condition. developing news. livermore police are investigating a suspicious death after finding a body in a landfill. this happened on altamont road. patrol deputies and detectives arrived and found e dy of suspta

down they are becoming overwhelmed by the garbage. a remarkable rescue this russia today. crews pulled a baby boy alive from a collapse of an apartment building. all of this happening in freezing cold conditions. getting the baby out was risky because of unstable debris. the 11-month-old was diagnosed with serious frostbite and head injury but rescuers say being wrapped up in layers while in bed saved his life. the explosion killed at least seven people and left dozens missing. it was believed to have been triggered by a natural gas leak. this afternoon scientists say a nasa spacecraft has survived its most distent encounter with another world 4 billion miles from earth. it's nicknamed it ma thule

it is a new years day tradition. the 130th annual rose parade kicked off in pasadena today with a performance by shaka kahn. the theme is the melody of life. it features flowered covered floats, equestrian groups, and the marching bands. and it was just after midnight when the first west coast baby of 2019 was born. >> ashley williams just talked to the proud parents. >> reporter: it is time to meet the first baby born of 2019 on the west coast. are you ready?

let's do it. introducing allen armenta. making his tv debut first on our sister station. little allen has officially been named the first baby of 2019. >> i was surprised but then i guess he is luck kill. >> reporter: born to patricia romero, allen entered the world weighing in at nine pounds and 16-ounces. >> i was tired at the end but it's worth it. >> reporter: aside from being an instant celebrity, allen also gets a big sister to go home to. >> she is super happy, she has lots of books to read to him. i hope everything goes well. >> that was ashley williams reporting. as for the bay area's first baby of 2019 it's a girl. kaiani diane was born at 12:25 this morning. she is her mom's tenth child and everyone is doing very well. the safest place for a child in a car is in a car

seat. but many parents don't though they expire. but as susan copen reports, many might be in cars throughout the country right now. >> reporter: for samantha booth, children is a priority. all three of her children used this carp seat. >> i never thought anything of it. because we used it for about a year with each kid. i had never been in a car accident. it was in good shape. >> reporter: just one problem. she didn't know it was already a year past its expiration date when she used it for her son nathaniel. >> i was shocked but also relieved. surprised like oh gosh, i felt really guilty i had my youngest in an expired car seat. >> reporter: improper use of car seats is common according to safe kids worldwide. three out of four car seats are used incorrectly. that includes the use of expired car seats. many theme unknowingly bought and sold at garage sales. or handed down from family

tight. future cast wind gust just to show you the winds will be easing as we go through the day. we will fast forward all the way to the weekend. because we are tracking a strong storm system that will bring the possibility of soaking rain, not just saturday but also for sunday. so the rain returns for our weekend. it's been awhile since we've seen the rain. you can definitely use it. sunset tonight at 5:02 or sunrise at 7:25 for tomorrow. daytime highs cool but seasonable. we are looking at mid 50s for downtown san francisco as well as for oakland, san jose there. looking at 56 for vallejo and napa. so the winds will be easing and relaxing for today. but plenty of sunshine, dry wednesday, thursday, and friday as high pressure really builds in for us. but there you go. with the chance for rain again possibility of a soaking rain saturday, sunday, and into next monday there. so a dry stretch and there you go with system after system beginning for the weekend. >> all right enjoy the sunshine
