telling authorities that safety is the top priority. >> reporter: the jury will continue this afternoon. the judge is not in the mood for excuses from pg&e and berated the company multiple times. also set the tone right off the bat by saying pg&e is a convicted felon for the pipeline fire and while on probation, was found to have started multiple blazes in 2017. also that there is a clear-cut pattern that the company is starting fires and should the company continue business as usual by killing people. what's more, the pg&e probation officer says the company is not forthcoming about starting the honey fire in 2017. the judge sentenced pg&e at a later date. also the attorney saying the company paid $4.5 billion in dividends. money that could

center for the arts on valencia. she was introduced by the men's chorus and some of the first things she talked to about, the issues the city has with homelessness. saying about 1000 people have been able to exit homelessness over the past six months and her goal is to get another 1000 shelter beds in the city by the year 2020. she is declaring a shelter crisis to do so and she sent out a warning to the entire city. every neighborhood needs to be open to being part of the solution and we are talking about the solution of navigation centers. she is really trying to put a positive spin on what has been a 5 ton a couple years.

double digits below zero with wind chills -50. postal services suspended across minnesota as well as iowa, wisconsin and chicago. >> i have seven layers on. >> reporter: in michigan, white out conditions are being blamed for a chain reaction of crashes involving at least two dozen vehicles. no one was killed. the arctic blast will also put a stop to public transportation and cancel all trains at chicago's union station due to the extreme cold. in minneapolis, police at the streets to help those in need. they handed out free clubs to kids in low income neighborhoods. >> it is important to come out to the community and make sure people are safe in this weather. >> reporter: officers looking for homeless people to help. >> the reality is that it is too dangerous for people to be out here. >> reporter: eventually allowing officers to call an ambulance for him. >> we got them in the ambulance.

>> reporter: we cannot stress it enough, today, it is extremely cold and perhaps the worst of it all, the wind chill, feeling like 50 to 60 degrees below zero so be extremely careful. minneapolis, minnesota. check out this guy trying to make the most out of the freezing temperatures in chicago. he had a little fun making his own snow. he drew boiling water right into the air making it instantly freeze before hitting the ground. here in the bay area, we are lucky to have mild temperatures as we look live from our exclusive salesforce tower camera but we are about to see some ranges in the forecast. marion lee is tracking the rain coming in. that's right, we are tracking a storm system that will bring the return of the rain. it is a slow mover and taking it's time getting here but in the meantime, we are looking at plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures.

the u.s. delegation also includes treasury secretary stephen nguyen, economic advisor, it larry kudlow and commerce secretary. their job is to settle the six month trade war which has darkened the outlook for the global economy. the white house has accused china of stealing trade secrets and the two sides are far apart. there is a big deadline hanging over the negotiations. >> reporter: if they don't reach an agreement by march 2, the trump administration is scheduling high tariffs on $2 million worth of imports. this week, the justice department brought criminal charges against the chinese tech giant. >> in 2012, wallaby began a concerted effort to steal information about a robot that t-mobile used to test. >> reporter: the u.s. says it is completely suffering from trade negotiations.

potential teachers strike in oakland. but this morning-- educators at montclair elementary.. a vote is underway for a potential teacher strike in oakland but this morning, educators were greeted with a special message from students and parents with a big red heart saying, we love our teachers. bright red plastic cups spelling it out on a chain- link fence. teachers say they feel supported by the parents. >> with all of the strikes, people are starting to realize. >> the teachers union once smaller class sizes and a 12%

raise over three years. the district is offering a 5% raise and the boat will go on until friday. the usda is warning parents about two chicken nugget products popular with kids. recalling more than 36,000 pounds of its white meat chicken nuggets. they may be contaminated with robert. the best use by date of november 26. also, perdue foods is recalling more than 16,000 pounds of fun shaped chicken breast nuggets because the packaging did not include a milk allergen warning. those affected packages have a used by date of march 11. some popular fruit juices may contain heavy metals. they occur naturally in the air, water and soil. they can also wind up in food during manufacturing and packaging. >> reporter: stephanie trilling says she tries hard to keep her four-year-old daughter away

from juice mostly because of its sugar content. >> it is not something i want to give to my kids but i don't want to be that mom who is restricting everything. >> reporter: but she may have a new reason. a new analysis from consumer reports, james dickerson. his team tested 45 different juices from four heavy metal substances. arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury. they found that every single product contained a measurable amount of at least one heavy metal except for mercury. 20 one of the samples contained one or a combination of heavy metals that reached a level consumer reports research is deemed concerning for daily consumption. the cdc says long-term exposure to heavy metals may put people at risk for kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, damaged ability to learn and certain types of cancer. consumer reports is recommending parents lower the amount of juice they get their kids. >> they should be concerned but don't panic.

frequent exposure to these heavy metals through the juice is the concern. >> reporter: the juice products association board of directors includes executives from pepsi- cola, welches and other juice brands whose products were tested said they had not seen the full study but call the results unfounded and have told us they are committed to providing safe and nutritious products that meet fda standards and also say there is no scientific evidence indicating trace levels of heavy metals have caused any negative health outcomes but the doctor, the director of environmental pediatrics at nyu school of medicine says -- >> -- the scientist telling us increasingly that there are time points in light and they can disrupt hormones and cause bio disease. >> reporter: the fda had no
