cloudy skies and a lot of gray. >> meteorologist mary lee is tracking the latest round of rain. >> this is a powerful storm system. likely the second strongest this season. high def doppler, you can see the bulk of the action offshore, poised to move in to the bay area. as we head through the afternoon and evening into tomorrow morning, the rain impact at a seven. and the wind at an eight and flooding at a six. high wind warning from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m. tomorrow for the entire bay area. strong gusts likely with gusts up to 65 miles per hour. downed trees and power lines are definitely possible with this storm. a flash flood watch in effect from 7:00 tonight tientire region. small streams may flood with the storm system.

we are watching the storms a it is about to move into our region. we'll time it out on futurecast. you'll see the rain and the wind where you are coming up. continuing our storm watch coverage with the potential problems on the horizon. >> reporter: buckle down. the second biggest storm of the season is hours away. >> from the santa cruz mountains to the santa clara valley, it doesn't look bad. but over the other way, the storm clouds are brewing. the big storm wiped out a chunk of the hillside. it's back open but with exposed dirt and the winds could cause more problems. the fire captain says they are not staffing any firefighters for the storm and had a few reminders. any sandbag you may find is free and the water district has

roads and dangerous travel conditions through tuesday. caltrans is closing 140 in mariposa county in the area of the ferguson burn scar. 17miles will be closed near the west entrance of yosemite national park. the town of paradise could lose its fema funded cleanup reimbursement after town leaders allowed people to move back in areas before the debris was cleared. that may have put federal funds in jeopardy. leaders are working with fema to correct the issue. oakland police arresting a man suspected of robbing a convenience store. the armed robbery happened just before 2:15 in the 500 block of international boulevard.

officers caught up with the suspect when he took off on foot. police have also found the gun used in the robbery in the lake. meanwhile, students at oakland tech high school walked out of glass. they are marching in solidarity with their teachers. the students organized the walkout with student speakers and an open mike for community members. they want the district to meet the teachers union demands. >> last year our school had a paper shortage. i know that we have about two nurses even though we have 2,000 kids. we feel that our education is not being prioritized. >> the oakland tech students are planning a sickout next friday along with other high schools in the city. they are hoping that will get the school district to heed

their demands. the 2020 race to the white house is heating up. democrat cory booker just made it official. he is throwing t in the ring. >> reporter: new jersey senator cory booker announced his campaign for the president. >> together america, we will rise. >> i'm cory booker and i'm running for president of the united states of america. >> reporter: the 49-year-old senator has long been seen as a potential democratic candidate. >> the cancer in many ways in our country is a caustic type of politics that tocreate t del separate. >> kamala harris launched her campaign last week. the total number of official candidates is five.

the door. since then, the restaurant's fbi page and yelp have been bombarded with bad reviews. he tweeted out an apology. making a public statement without taking my team's thoughts into consideration was disrespectful and reckless. another day of dangerous cold. the polar vortex has been blamed for 21 deaths. and another brutal winter system is forecast to sweep across the midwest and northwest next week. the good news, it probably won't be as severe as this week's polar vortex. in atlanta, super bowl liii will take place on sunday at mercedes-benz stadium between the patriots and the rams. even though bay area teams are not playing.

in. and as the actual cold front pushes through, you can see the heavy rain. this is start at 5 a.m. maybe an isolated thunderstorm with the cold front pushing through. and we'll see a lot of rain. that's why the flash flood watch is in effect. the north bay, 2 to 5 inches.

announcement today-- saying: her body is quote -- "broken beyond repair" from the injuries and she's gone four time olympic skier lindsay vaughn is retiring. the 34-year-old made the announcement and said her body is broken beyond repair because of the injuries and surgeries. vaughn was at one time considered the best female alpine skier in the world. super bowl sunday is almost here. and after the big game. cbs will premiere the world's best. >> the talent show features 50 of the most accomplished experts from every experience i mean, it's authentic. >> it's hosted by james corden

that story tonight at 5:00. >> we want to check on the weather. >> the storm is approaching. you can see the bulk of the action offshore. and we are tracking that wet weather for the north bay. you can see light to moderate rain. santa rosa. a high wind warning kicks into effect at 3 p.m. until 10 a.m. strong, gusty damaging winds are possible. and a winter storm warning is in effect from 4 p.m. today until 4 p.m. tuesday day. looking at snow at the passes, 36 to 60 inches of snow. gusty winds and travel delays likely there for the passes. so here's what you can expect. the rain and wind, that will move in later this afternoon and this evenings. and it continues tonight overnight into tomorrow morning. the cold front pushes through
