acon vote strionda the that could happen in two weeks. >> the bottom line is that the school district has too many schools for the number of students we serve. >> reporter: the district is now dealing with an impending strike and a $30 million shortfall. the superintendent of oakland schools is working on a citywide plan for closures to get its budget in line so the numbers and names have not been released, she says there is no choice. suspect our students are not currently receiving the quality education that ey >> reporter: the teachers union once more pay, smaller class sizes and more nurses and counselors on staff. last night, the oakland city council passed a resolution supporting oakland teachers as dozens of them rallied outside.

today, the superintendent says if a strike happens, they plan to keep the schools open. >> we will be bringing in lots of individuals. some maybe subs and some may be here in the central office so the plans will look differently based on our various schools. >> reporter: the district is holding an open meeting about it's budget cut plans. that will be at aleta elementary at 6:00 tonight. meanwhile, oakland teachers have distributed a guide to parents on how to prepare for a scanible strikeinseup lida lis and churches. a new report from the state health department has declared the hunters point radar free from radiological and safety hazards. the report was certified by experts.

they accuse the company of doing a shoddy job and falsifying soil sample records. a catholic school in the east bay is closed today after a massive tree toppled over its church. it happened this morning in lafayette. crews have their hands full. this is that safe perpetual church on hamlet road. crews say the downed tree affected a gas line forcing a school to close for the day and it is expected to be back open tomorrow. investigating a deadly pedestrian accident. a 55-year- old man was hit just before 8:00 this morning near aspen and brown drives. chopper 5 was over head. the driver is cooperating with police. alcohol does not appear to be factors in this crash. we are getting you a birds

eye view of the crumpled section of highway 35 after a mudslide took out a chunk of the road. this is causing a major headache for drivers. >> reporter: it looks like caltrans was being a bit optimistic. to borrow the words of a man, nothing easy. it is the day after the bay area snowstorm of 2019 and it is just drying up or emergency crews did finally get to work. workers spent the morning cutting into the asphalt, widening the whole around the damage, itself. over the weekend, the sinkhole grew into a slip out as the hillside gave way and took out a 12 x 40' chunk of road along with it. pack it down, build a temporary retaining wall and open it up

to traffic as soon as possible which means highway 35 will be closed for at p ri. this morning, we saw several frustrated drivers who came out but then got turned around because the caltrans websites and there was one way controlled traffic coming through. caltrans is working on correcting that but the online mistake has put doug 40 minutes behind his. as if the mudslide wasn't bad enough, keep in mind that if you are coming out in this direction, there was a lot of black ice on the road. highway 35, kpix 5. meanwhile, in the east bay, all lanes are back open after caltrans made some emergency road repairs. work began yesterday on the westbound lanes near industrial boulevard. caltrans tweeted out th pict of inthad. washington dc where president trump is at the state department. this is mike pompeo right now.
