bay area getting wet this afternoon. good afternoon i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. the latest storm means something different depending on where you are right now. rain and wind are hitting the north bay right now and have been since late last night. meantime the south bay has mostly stayed out of the path but that is changing and we are just getting started. >> we have live team coverage on the problems this storm is bringing, mudslides, flooding and messy roads. first meteorologist mary lee is tracking the rain and the wind, mary. it is still looking at heavy rain for the north bay. just getting a pounding more than 24 hours of steady rain for the north bay. you can see from hills burr, santa rosa, petaluma, it is pouring right now for you. and several storm reports as well with this powerful storm system looking at storm report of flooding at the straight east now closed

between shellville road in sonoma. let's show you the heavy rain, light rain over the golden gate, bay bridge, across the east bay in berkeley, concord, walnut creek. south bay dry but that will change as we go through later on today. a flood warning for the russian and napa rivers, all small streams and creeks in sonoma county. flood warning in effect there. small stream advisory for the north bay due to all of this rain as small creeks and streams. watch flood watch for the rest of the bay area. wind advisory for the coast as well as for the hills gusts to you 65 miles per hour some we're tracking the rain, we're tracking the wind. i will show you that on futurecast coming up, back to you. arnk you. storm watch continues with jackie ward live at the russian river where people are being told to evacuate.

jackie. >> reporter: kenny, it is dumping water in guerneville, the russian river is gushing and about to overflow. the water is reaching destructive levels and forcing people to evacuate. the people who live at river bend rv camp didn't have time to stop and talk. that is how dangerous the situation is getting. long time guerneville resident matt kenny was loading up 20 sand bags, this is before getting an emergency alert to evacuate immediately. >> well, you know this is coming up pretty high this time. guy the at that try to get something in front of my garage d ed mo like a rithan a place for cars to drive on, according to this poll water levels reached 3 feet before noon. earlier in santa rosa around 7:30, fire crews had to rescue a car that got stuck on the water on todd road, drivers had to be saved.

mudslide last week. the rain is causing concern that more of the hillside might come down. the plan is to install barriers possibly later today. back in san anselmo. people are taking the weather in stride even at the ranch salon, as likely its last full winter in this location. the entire building is being knocked down to make room for crews to widen the creek. while the owner loves this spot, he's ready to move. >> it's what it is, you know, ground zero, town built on top of a creek. we arexpecting a otswer you don't have the rain coming down, you have the rain coming down off the hillsides and all collecting here in this creek. so, we're going to keep an eye

on it, anne makevec, kpix5. anne, thank you. creeks in west marin are overflowing and flooding several locations. marin county sheriffs offices warning people to stay home if possible. west marin has received more than 5 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. officials saying that the reservoir spilling into spillways causing roadway closures. the storm is it causing flooding into point reyes national sea shore. park rangers are urging people to stay home. all visitor centers will be closed today. the storm is sending trees toppling over in hayward. cal trans is working to unblock this tree. flooding along the san francisco shoreline has closed the great highway today, right now the southbound lanes from lincoln street to slow boulevard are blocked off. no word yet on big mess right now at bay area airports

amtrak train stranded in the oregon snow since sunday has finally arrived back at its starting point, 183 passengers were stuck on board that train for 36 hours south of eugene, oregon. their voyage came to a halt when a tree fell on to the tracks on sunday, the crew decided it was safest for passengers to remain on that train. >> rebecca done son stranded on amtrak coal system light train 11, please send help if possible. >> amtrak told passenger was long the route to expect additional delays as the train returned, about a foot of snow on the ground in that area. snow nearly buried a man in arizona. he was shoveling the snow at a country cabin in payson, this video caught it all. in seconds half his body was pinned underneath all that

expect a stormily wide. caltrans reopen 0ed east and westbound interstate 80 near the nevada state line to passenger vehicles this morning. no estimated time for reopening for big rigs. lots of snow in the high country and rain in the bay area. that's right michelle and kenny. we are tracking the rain, tracking the wind, tracking the snow up in the sierra. isolated totals of 10 feet of snow for the sierra with a winter storm warning in effect. north bay it has been going 24 hours that's steady rain for you, fairfield, pan at petaluma, golden gate into san francisco, bay bridge, richmond, her curely and concord. we do have several storm reports with this powerful storm. and this is just one of them in

hayward, the tree down blocking the eastbound tennyson road on to 880 southbound. wind damage, we see mudslides, debris flows and a lot of flooding for the port bay. daytime highs are are in the mid to upper 50s to low 60's right now. we are in the mid to upper 50s across the bay area. and very similar to how we started off the day because of this tropical air. we are looking at winds, 29 miles per hour half moon bay. 22 in oakland. 26 south, southeast for redwood city, 26 miles per hour winds out of the south in berkeley and we'll continue to see the winds increase through the afternoon and for the evening as a front kicks up the winds for us and also triggers more rain. so wettest spot is in the north bay. for this evening that steady rain finally comes to an end for tomorrow morning but shower row weather is expected tomorrow in the afternoon. let's time it out on
