the storm is tapering off but the damage is done. and take a look at these live pictures, we are going to look from chopper 5. this is along the rushing river. look at that! homes halfway submerged in floodwaters. you can see as chopper 5 tries to focus on some of these homes. you can see all of the water damage and even cars submerged in the water. good afternoon, i am michelle griego. parts of the bay area are getting scattered showers, other areas are starting to dry out. >> mary is tracking it all on high:doppler. the worst is over but we are still tracking showers this afternoon as we are looking at that unstable mo you can see the showers are still lining up on the doppler radar. from the north bay, at least we

are not talking about widespread heavy rain for the north bay but you can still see some strong cells popping up. st. helena, down through vacaville, fairfield across hercules, richmond, the san rafael bridge, san rafael, there, across the bay bridge into berkeley, walnut creek, san ramon, down into redwood city, sunnyvale and saratoga and a few showers for san jose. we want to talk about these impressive rainfall amounts for the north bay with this an atmospheric river. 20.5 inches of rain. more than 10 inches for lake sonoma. winds are more than 9 inches, more than 8 inches for some oh and santa rosa. record rainfall yesterday in santa rosa and a flood warning for sonoma county because of the small streams and creeks all flooding. greensboro and hillsboro under

get out a little sooner than planned. >> these things are fast- changing and you do need to pay attention. >> this is the third time we have been evacuated over the last few months but that is life. >> reporter: the owners of the in tell us they were calling rideshare companies to pick people up. our original goal this morning was to get to granville but we never made it. instead, as the water level rose swallowing cars and taking no prisoners is, sonoma county hp kept pushing us down the road. the national guard and fire crews were on hand ready to rescue people if necessary. water levels are continuing to rise and will reach 46 feet by 11:00 tonight. it was at flood stage for about 24 hours before receding back to 2 feet by friday night. in-store spell, jackie bork, kp

is working. >> officials say they will begin the cleanup effort after the blood water receipts which could happen later today. for the second time in a month, floodwaters have shut down 37 between the bottom and alejo and chp says it may be several days before the roadway reopens. we are live near nevada. and? >> reporter: what a mess. i am standing right in the traffic lanes which are not operable right now along highway 37 and you can see a truck that tried to make its way across this mess. it's got lumber in the back and it just did not make it so now, this is all closed in both directions between and alejo. it just started raining here again. take a look, this was the view above chopper 5 right after this closed at about 11:00 this morning, what do began collecting on the lanes just after midnight. as kenny mentioned, 37 was actually closed. just two weeks ago.

water from the battle creek and the bay of 650 million gallons started pouring out into the nearby fields and collecting here on the roadway. crews did some emergency repair work on that levy but really, the amount of rain that we have gotten during the storm is just too much for the infrastructure here to handle and again, this could be another several days before this is finally reopened and we saw some sun breaks but yes, the rain is back again here in novato. looking forward to a break. live in novato, end the, kpix 5. the air ops helicopter that assisted in the rescues of at least two people today trapped by floodwaters. you can see the chopper in the distance as it flies over the river. emergency crews say a 59-year- old man spent the night in the

water needed to be rescued. he is expected to be okay. in walnut creek, some lanes could be closed into this evening after a downed tree took out power lines this morning. crews were out trying to restore power and working to clear the tree from the road. the work is impacting traffic between civic drive and walnut boulevard. the tree toppled over around 1:30 this morning. police are advising drivers to take alternate routes and avoid the area. several area school districts are close to the rain and the flooding and power issues. we have the full list on kpix.com. president trump's personal lawyer is getting giving some explosive testimony. michael cohen has admitted he lied to congress before but this time, he says he is telling the truth and has proved. natalie brand is in washington.

welcome back, this is another live look from chopper 5 in greenville. chopper 5 over the scene as the rushing river continues to rise. people trying to peddle their way through to get to a place. chopper 5 was also flying over the city just a few minutes ago . passing by gas station and heading into a neighborhood, the boats are the only way to get around the city, more than

4000 people are in the city dealing with these types of conditions. rather, this is a shot of the staging area for a rescue chopper that has landed on about the only piece of dry land in that flooded city. it is a race against time in indonesia right now. rescue crews are searching for dozens of workers, at least four others have died. terri o kita has the details. >> reporter: rescuers rushed more than a dozen survivors to a nearby hospital after chris pulled them from the rubble of an illegal goldmine that collapsed on the remote island. about 1000 miles east of indonesia's capital. emergency crews believe dozens of workers may still be trapped as

disparate forces call from beneath the ground. makeshift wooden structures in the goldmine caved in tuesday night after unstable muddy soil caused a landslide. now, crews are left to search in dangerous conditions along steep terrain. heavy removal equipment and ambulances cannot remain rich the remote location so rescuers will have to go on foot and dip with their bare hands and farm tools. indonesia has a lot of unlicensed mining sites with thousands of workers reportedly facing high risk conditions. authorities say safety regulations are frequently ignored. police, soldiers and the red cross are involved in the rescue efforts and more landslides are possible. terri o kita, cbs news. the oakland teacher strike strikes into its fifth day today. teachers and supporters are holding a solidarity rally on the foot bridge crossing of i- 80. at law as goleta elementary school, the state to read intended superintendent released a statement saying, "at this time, both sides are communicating and trying to reach an agreement that that

see some light to moderate rain from st. helena as well as down through novato with a few showers popping up as well as walnut creek, san ramon and near berkeley, richmond, across the bridge, over mill valley looking at some light to moderate rain pushing through across south san francisco, across the peninsula, sunnyvale and down through saratoga so again, we are not done just yet with the wet weather but we are done with the heavy, steady rain. with at an atmospheric river, temperatures are in the upper 50s to low 60s this afternoon. our winds, we are still watching them, southerly winds at 10 miles an hour. 19 in san francisco, 19 in berkeley. milen hour winds in antioch.

the russian river, looking at cresting at 46 feet, right now. right now, it is at 43.6 feet and this will crest at 10:00 tonight and then the napa river at napa crested about two hours ago, half above what stage so take it to the rest of the day, scattered showers could see some peaks of sunshine as we go through the afternoon. or tomorrow, mainly dry and we are starting to see some clearing as we go through thursday. a dry day on friday but increasing clouds for your friday. and the snow and the sierra with that winter storm warning in our sunset, 6:01. the sunrise at 6:42 and daytime high today, mid 60s and that is right where we should be for this time of year. so looking at showers of the day and catchingne break, for sure, by thursday and friday with showers returning for the weekend and another break on monday.

from chopper 5 over the russian river. guerneville being one of towns evacuated because of flooding. neighborhoods submerged in water, minutes ago, supervisors created a local emergency. the water level is at 46.3 feet right now. and the water is not done rising.
