good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. president trump is back in washington this morning from a two-day summit from north korea in vietnam. there are now conflicting reports, however, about why his meetings with kim jong-un broke down without a deal. and mr. trump is facing backlash over his comments about american otto warmbier. marc liverman has the details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the president is being praised for walking away from a bad deal with north korea, but it's what he said in the post-summit news conference that's getting him in trouble. confusion over the abrupt ending to the summit between president trump and north korea's kim jong-un. >> i think the president had it exactly right. they basically asked for full sanctions relief. that's true. they -- they basically did ask for that. >> reporter: north korea's foreign minister says not quite. his country only wanted partial sanctions relief, but they didn't offer a full denuclearization, the main goal

for the u.s. >> part of the art of making the deal is to know when to walk away. >> reporter: in washington, lawmakers praised president trump for not making a bad deal in vietnam. >> frankly, i think that we cannot give up our demands for a denuclearized north korea. >> reporter: there was sharp criticism of the president's comments about otto warmbier. >> he tells me he didn't know about it, and i will take him at his word. >> reporter: president trump says kim jong-un is not to blame for the death of the 22-year-old college student. warmbier was severely injured while in north korean custody and died back home. >> mr. warmbier was suffering. it was unforgivable. >> reporter: sherrod brown and rob portman from warmbier's home state of ohio say kim jong-un should not be let off the hook. >> never should meet with north korea without bringing up the issue of otto warmbier over and

over. >> reporter: warmbier was sentenced to prison in 2016 for allegedly stealing a poster from a hotel in pyongyang. warmbier's family says he was brutally tortured. in december the family was awarded $500 million in a lawsuit against north korea. anne-marie? >> marc liverman in new york. thank you so much, marc. michael cohen is expected back on capitol hill next week for more testimony. cohen spent three days getting grilled by lawmakers this week. democrats say he provided information that could lead to additional witnesses. paula reid reports. >> reporter: michael cohen spent eight hours answering questions behind closed doors. >> not much i can say. >> reporter: lawmakers and federal prosecutors are still digesting his bombshell public testimony. in vietnam, president trump blasted his former personal attorney. >> he lied a lot, but it was very interesting because he didn't lie about one thing. he said no collusion with the russian hoax. didn't just lie about that, >> reporter: cohen implicated t

him in several crimes, including campaign finance violations and financial fraud. >> every day most of us knew we were coming in and we were going to lie for him on something. >> reporter: cohen also gave congress a roadmap for continuing its investigations. >> he was fully cooperative and answered all of our questions. >> reporter: he said committees should interview trump organization cfo alan weisselberg, donald trump jr., and chairman of the "national enquirer's" publisher, david pecker. cohen also delivered documents like financial statements and a canceled check that could prove the president was aware of hush-money payments to adult film star stormy daniels. kim whalee is a former whitewater investigator -- >> they don't deny things, the facts speak for themselves based on the transactions and the documents themselves.eporubcans

referred cohen to the justice department, alleging that he made false statements during his testimony. but he'll be back next two week answer more questions. and lawmakers say they will also call alan weisselberg to testify. paula reid, cbs news, the white house. a $1 million reward is being offered for information to track down the son of deceased terror leader osama bin laden. the state department says hamza bin laden is emerging as a leader in al qaeda. in audio and video messages he called on followers to launch attacks against the u.s. investigators believe it's in part to avenge his father's death by u.s. military forces in 2011. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is facing new calls to resign this morning after israel's attorney general announced plans to indict netanyahu for corruption. this comes weeks ahead of a close election. seth doane reports. >> reporter: prime minister benjamin netanyahu fired back saying there was nothing to the charges, framing it as a political witch hunt. "this house of cards will

completely collapse," he said. it does have the akings of a political drama. a sitting prime minister in power for a decade in the midst of a tight re-election campaign and accused in three separate cases. offering bribes of regulatory benefits in exchange for favorable news coverage, allegedly trading legislation that would damage one newspaper for good press in another, and accepting gifts from a hollywood producer of cigars, champagne, and jewelry totaling more than a quarter of a million dollars for political favors. netanyahu will have the chance to defend himself before the indictment is official. but he's calling the timing of this announcement undemocratic because voters will hear the charges before the election but not the conclusion. seth doane, cbs news, london. a new storm is set to batter california this weekend. parts of that state remain under water after days of torrential rain. forecasters say more rain is

moving in. in the north, the russian river is beginning to recede. officials estimate 3,000 properties were damaged by flooding when the river overran its banks this week. emergencies have been declared in several counties there. the fbi is returning thousands of artifacts seized from a home in indiana, and hundreds of those items came from china. anna werner reports. >> reporter: those chinese artifacts were some of the 5,000 seized from this home in rural indiana in 2014 from 90-year-old don miller, a man well known locally for his passion for collecting and his global travels. >> when i first went into his house and saw the size of the collection, it was unlike anything we'd ever seen. >> reporter: tim carpenter with the fbi's art crime unit said thousands of items had been illegally obtained including pre-colombian pottery, italian mosaic, and something miller labeled chinese stone-age weapons. >> roughly half of the collection was native american. the other half was from every

corner of the globe. >> reporter: and agents also found something disturbing. >> about 2,000 human bones. >> reporter: 2,000? >> to the best of our knowledge right now, there's 2,000 bones that represent about 500 human beings. >> reporter: nearly all of those human remains, he says, were dug up from ancient native american burial sites, similar to the one in this old government film. >> meticulous care must be exercised -- >> we have to think about the context of who has been the target of grave robbing for centuries, whose ancestors have been collected for hobby. >> reporter: archaeology professor holly cusack-mcveigh has been working with the fbi on the case. >> this comes down racism. they aren't digging white graves. >> reporter: experts found the human remains likely came from native american tribes including the arikara. in north dakota, tribal official pete coffey is working with the fbi to bring them home.

"the new york times" reports last may president trump ordered then-chief of staff john kelly to give his son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner security clearance. anonymous sources tell the "times" mr. trump's order came despite the concerns of kelly, intelligence officials, and then-white house counsel don mcghan. kelly said he had been ordered to give kushner top-secret clearance. it contradicts earlier statements from the president that he had no role in kushner's security clearance. the white house declined comment. "vanity fair" reports on one of president trump's alma maters, fordham university,

confirming that mr. trump was obsessed with hiding his s.a.t. scores. a spokesman for the school says it received a threatening letter warning it not to release mr. trump's grades ahead of the 2016 election. on wednesday, the president's former attorney michael cohen testified to congress that mr. trump directed him to threaten schools he attended to not release his grades and s.a.t. scores. fordham says it could not legally release the records to anyone except mr. trump or someone he designated. britain's "guardian" reports canadian prime minister justin trudeau is facing the first major political scandal of his administration. a former canadian attorney general says that she was pressured by trudeau and some of his closest advisers to prevent the prosecution of a major engineering firm on fraud and bribery allegations. trudeau has not denied that he and his team spoke to the attorney general, but he disputed her claims. he said it's his duty to protect jobs which could have been lost had the company been convicted. the leader of canada's opposition party is calling on trudeau to resign.
