good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. new zealand's prime minister says gun law reforms will be announced within the next ten days following the deadly terror attack in christchurch. suspected white supremacist brenton tarrant allegedly screamed the shootings of 50 -- streamed the shootings of 50 people live on facebook. the social media platform says that it deleted over a million videos of the shootings within 24 hours of the attack. laura podesta is here in new york with new details on another arrest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. an 18-year-old in christchurch was just denied bail. he's been charged with two crimes for sharing the gunman's live stream and posting the photo with the message "target acquired." despite those words, police

say the young man was not directly involved in the shooting whiatfor co and song. ♪ they're mourning the 50 worshippers killed in the massacre at two mosques in christchurch friday. the country of more than four million is still searching for answers while a debate over gun control is taking shape. >> i think what the public rightly are asking right now is why is it and how is it that you should end currently able to buy military-style semiautomatic weapons in new zealand. >> reporter: the prime minister said on sunday new gun reform laws will be announced within days. out of respect for the victims of the attack, the organizers of the largest gun show canceled the event and cited security risks. over the weekend the suspect appeared in court with his face blurred in accordance with law. police say he acted alone, but they haven't completely ruled out that he had support.

his family in australia spoke for the first time. >> it's just so much for everything to take in that somebody in our family would do anything like this. >> reporter: counterterrorism police in the suspect's state of new south wales raided two homes south of where he grew up. in christchurch, workers at the local cemetery have been using heavy machinery to dig graves for the victims. new zealand's prime minister says families of the victims are eligible for $10,000 each to help cover funeral expenses. anne-marie? >> laura podesta here in new york. thank you so much, laura. pilot training is being called into question as investigators analyze data from last week's ethiopian airlines crash that killed all 157 people on board. cbs news has learned that u.s. pilots were initially given about 56 minutes of training on an ipad about the difference between the new boeing max

planes and the older 737s. ethiopia's transport minister says the black box data shows similarities between the ethiopian crash and the lion air crash last october that involved the same model plane. the faa has since grounded all max 8 and 9 jets. and flood watches and warnings are in effect this morning in at least a dozen states. rapid snow melt is producing deadly flooding in the midwest. forecasters warn that parts of iowa and nebraska remain at high risk. meg oliver reports. >> reporter: the fast-moving floodwaters washed out several towns in eastern nebraska and iowa. >> every levee south of council bluffs to the missouri bored border has been breached. we've got a loof s ead.g. >> reporter: merbe to be plked t of cold dwatthatled hi omaha ca>>d. i was petrified. i didn't know how fast it was coming.

>> reporter: emergency evacuations are in place after several levee failures along the river. it's expected to crest more than 40 feet south of omaha. that would mark 15 feet over flood stage. first responders rescued people off the roof of pickup trucks all weekend. at least two people have died. in columbus, nebraska, 50-year-old james wilkey was swept away as he tried to help someone stranded when a bridge collapsed. his body was recovered hours later near his farm. it's the aftermath of last week's bomb cyclone. that weather phenomenon produced blizzard conditions in portions of western nebraska and severe flooding. >> i was blown away. the utter devastation, the power of nature is incredible. the disaster will plague the region for days. major flooding is forecast to last through the end of this week. meg oliver, cbs news, new york. the list of contenders for

the 2020 presidential election has grown. one potential democratic favorite hinted over the weekend that he may soon be jumping into the ring. mola lenghi has more. [ chants ] >> reporter: former vice president joe biden slipped or tip says his hand about officially joining the race on saturday night. >> i have the most progressive record of anybody who would run. >> reporter: a biden entrance into the race would significantly shift the growing democratic field since he's widely seen as the party's front-runner. while he continues to hold out, others wasted no time. >> that's why i'm running for president. >> reporter: senator kerstin gillibrand officially stepped on to the campaign trail sunday joining 13 other democrats who hope to knock off donald trump in 2020. >> i think this is a great problem for us to have as a party and as a democracy. so many choices, so many different life experiences --

>> reporter: former texas congressman beto o'rourke was on the trial in wisconsin. others made stops in iowa and nevada this weekend. they're also making the rounds on the sunday talk shows. soon president trump is expected to step up his re-election bid with more rallies. some are looking for a new gop alternative in 2020. >> i think someone should run because republicans ought to be given a choice. royal mola lenghi, cbs news, the white house. president trump once again attacked the late john mccain, prompting the arizona republican's daughter, megan mccain, to fire back. the president tweeted over the weekend, "spreading the fake and totally discredited dossier is unfortunately a dark stain against john mccain." megan responded, no one will ever love the president the way they loved her father, referring to the american people. the president's recent attack on mccain who died last year is the latest in his feud against the late senator. authorities in north carolina are headed to arizona

reports drug enforcement officials report methamphetamine is flooding into the u.s. dea agents say mexican cartels have been pushing meth into the u.s. market including the northeast where it was once relatively scarce. officials cite a worrisome increase in trafficking and related deaths. "the new york times" reports on a 24-year-old accused of killing the reputed member of the gambino crime family. he was arrested at the new jersey home he lived in with his parents. anthony cormello is accused of pumping close a dozen bullets into alleged mafia later frank cali outside of his home last week. authorities say his death may have had nothing to do with the mafia. investigators are looking at whether comello had a romantic inte one o relatives, and cali told him to stay away. "the st. louis post dispatch" reports that police say there's no links two six men with es stemmed from the

shooting death of michael brown by a white police officer. the officer was not charged. two of the six men were found dead inside torched cars. three died of apparent suicides. another collapsed on a bus. his death was ruled an overdose. the deaths are drawing speculation on social media. "the cincinnati enquirer" reports a kentucky teenager banned from his catholic high school because he refused the chickenpox vaccine is suing the northern kentucky health department. 18-year-old jerome kunkel says that he -- he opposes it on religious grounds claiming it uses aborted fetal cells. he said he was also barred from playing basketball on the school's team. there's a chicken pox outbreak at the school with 32 cases. >> for the health department to say that we have to get vaccines in order to go to school, that's infringing on my first amendment right. >> the school officials say they're trying to protect the public's health. still ahead, president trump versus general motors. the president steps in to try and reopen a shuttered plant in ohio.

nasdaq rose 57 points. president trump is stepping up his pressure on general motors to reopen an ohio manufacturing plant that recently closed. the president says he spoke with the company's ceo, mary barra, and wants the lordstown plant to reopen or find another owner. the closure of the plant put 1,700 people out of work. the company intends to close four other plants in north america by early next year. new guidelines say low doses of aspirin should no longer be given on a routine basis to prevent heart attacks. the news comes from the american college of cardiology and the american heart association. they say the risk of serious bleeding outweighs the benefits. doctors started advising patients to take aspirin more often in the 1980s and 1990s after studies showed it could help prevent heart attacks. doctors may still prescribe aspirin for some older patients with increased risk for heart diseases. it's finally legal to bet on march madness. in year, the expansion of
