massacre take their own lives. ♪ good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. president trump is claiming, quote, total exoneration after the release of a summary of special counsel robert mueller's two-year russia investigation. congressional democrats say not so fast, they want the full report to be released. mueller concluded that there was no collusion between the president or his campaign and russia in the 2016 election, but he did not reach any conclusions about whether mr. trump illegally obstructed justice. mola lenghi is in washington with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. president trump declaring victory here, claiming that the mueller report has totally vindicated him. a report that he is now describing and has been describing as an illegal takedown that failed.

meanwhile, his republican allies here on capitol hill are ready to move on, but it appears that democrats are far from finished. >> no collusion. no obstruction. >> reporter: a familiar message from president trump as he left mar-a-lago on sunday, but this time he was backed up by attorney general william barr who had just released a four-page summary of robert mueller's russia investigation. >> it was a complete and total exoneration. >> reporter: barr wrote, "the special counsel's investigation did not find the trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 u.s. presidential election, despite multiple offers from russian-affiliated individuals." but it did not totally exonerate but it did not totally exonerate the president as he claims. dealing with possible obstruction of justice charges, the special counsel stated that "while this report does not concludes that the president committed a crime it also does not exonerate him." barr says he and deputy attorney general rod rosenstein, two trump appointees, decided the

evidence was not sufficient. >> his conclusions raise more questions than they answer. >> reporter: democrats like house judiciary chairman jerry nadler are calling on barr to release the full report and testify before congress. >> we cannot simply rely on what may be a hasty parliamentarian interpretation of the facts. >> reporter: the president's allies are ready to move on. >> this should end the debate once and for all, and america should come first. >> reporter: barr says he intends to release as much of the special counsel's report as he can. robert mueller's investigation, the nearly two-year-long investigation, yielded charges against nearly three dozen people including six of the president's top advisers on his 2016 presidential campaign. anne-marie? >> all right, mola lenghi in washington. thank you. the release of the mueller report ends just one of many ongoing investigations of the president. and as jeff pegues reports, mr. trump could face his most

serious legal problems in new york. >> reporter: as the special counsel investigation ends, focus will now turn to lower manhattan and the office of the u.s. attorney for the southern ldistrict of new york. >> those are part of the investigation that's currently being looked at. >> reporter: for months, michael cohen, who was the president's fixer and personal attorney, has been cooperating with prosecutors in new york investigating campaign finance violations, the trump organization's finances, and possible illegal foreign donations to the trump inaugural committee. former u.s. attorney for the southern district of new york preet bharara -- >> the special counsel's mission was circumscribed by what rod rosenstein, the acting attorney general, said they could look at. the southern district folks, they're not circumscribed by anything. they can look at crime as they see fit. >> reporter: separately, the new york state attorney general has issued subpoenas to deutsche bank related to the financing of major trump organization projects --

>> over the top -- >> reporter: as well as mr. trump's failed effort in 2014 to buy the nfl's buffalo bills. even though the special counsel's investigation has wrapped, mueller's work moves forward in federal court. the president's former campaign adviser and friend, roger stone, faces trial in november on charges related to lying to congress and witness tampering. there are also half a dozen congressional investigations already underway, and the mueller report could lead to many more. jonathan turley is a cbs news analyst. >> many of these committees were held in abeyance waiting for the completion of the special counsel investigation. now that it's done, they have a free field to operate. >> reporter: over the weekend, house and senate democrats sent letters to more than half a dozen federal agencies and the

white house counsel's office demanding the preservation of all documents and evidence amassed by mueller's team. jeff pegues, cbs news, washington. ahead on "cbs this morning," more on robert mueller's russia report, and we'll get reaction from one of president trump's personal attorneys, jay sekulow. all the passengers and crew on a viking cruise ship are safe this morning after docking in western norway. the "viking sky" reached port with the remaining passengers last night. 25-foot waves tossed the ship and its passengers over the weekend. the ship send a mayday when engines failed. almost 500 of the more than 1,300 on board were airlifted. >> very frightening. very frightening. we left on a helicopter with a sling. the two of us together. and it was quite scary. >> police in norway say 17 people were hospitalized with injuries. the pagers were mainly from

the u.s. and britain. the ship's next cruise, which was scheduled to depart on wednesday, has been canceled. marjorie stoneman douglas high school in parkland, florida, is closed today. a second student who survived last year's school shooting died in an apparent suicide. the news comes about a week after another survivor took her own life. manuel bojorquez reports. >> reporter: the marjorie stoneman douglas high school community gathered to confront more tragedy -- two suicides in one week. >> we need to encourage parents to check on each other. >> reporter: coral springs police tell cbs news that a male sophomore who survived the shooting a year ago died saturday from an apparent suicide. it comes just one week after the suicide of sydney aiello, a recent graduate of the high school. aiello was a senior when a gunman killed 17 students and staff. one of her friends, meadow pollock, was killed in the shooting. her family said she struggled with survivors guilt and was

diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. >> when we lost 17 beautiful souls on february 14th, i said over and over, it can't be 18. and now it's not only 18, it's 19. i just -- now i say i hope it's not 20. >> reporter: ryan petty's daughter died in the shooting. he's since worked on suicide prevention anding issed a series of questions to help those with suicidal thoughts. >> have you thought about killing yourself, have you put plans into place, have you thought about how you would do that. if they answer yes to those questions, they're at risk, and we -- you need to call 211 immediately to get help. >> reporter: david hogg, one of the high-profile activists from the shooting, tweeted this morning saying, "how many more kids have to be taken from us as a result of suicide for the government/school district to do anything?" officials again stress the importance of reaching out for help either throth suicide prevention hotline or the county which raised the

alert level at its emergency operations center to have more resources available. manuel bojorquez, cbs news, parkland, florida. patriots owner robert kraft is breaking his silence more than a month after being charged in connection with a prostitution ring in florida. kraft said, "i know i have hurt and disappointed my family, my close friends, my co-workers, our fans, and many others who rightfully hold me to a higher standard." kraft is charged with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution. he has an arraignment court hearing scheduled thursday. coming up on "the morning news," the party is over for patriots tight end rob gronkowski who announced his retirement. and on president trump's turf, a democratic presidential hopeful kicks off her campaign. this is the "cbs morning news." e "cbs morning news."
