good morning. from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. the russia investigation by special counsel robert mueller is over. but the fight over the details of the report, that's just beginning. top democrats have written to the department of justice demanding mueller's entire report be released to congress no later than next week. republican lawmakers say it's time to move on. laura podesta is here in new york with more. laura, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. i'm seeing lawmakers on twitter saying it should be referred to as the barr report until the full mueller report is released because all we've seen so far is attorney general william barr sbaerpgs of the investigation. and democrats say that's not enough. >> we're glad pe eporter: with the special portt trum going oe e.

>> a lot of people out there have done very bad things, i would say treasonous things, those people will certainly be looked at. >> reporter: his republican allies followed suit. confident robert mueller's report has vindicated the president. >> mr. mueller thoroughly investigated the trump campaign. you cannot say that about the other side of the story. >> the democrats have way overstepped and overplayed this. >> reporter: others urged caution. >> when you get what you want, leave it alone. don't be a meathead about this, mr. president. >> reporter: in a four-page summary, attorney general bill barr said that mueller or the trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with russia. on the question of whether the president obstructed justice, the report says while it does not conclude that the president committed a crime it also shows it did not exonerate him.

>> there are a lot of open questions. >> reporter: congressman adam schiff and five others each with their own investigation into the president. are asking barr for the full report by next tuesday. >> we will use the mueller report and underlying evidence when we obtain it to make decisions about the focus of our investigation. >> reporter: barr says he intends to release as much of the report as he can. president trump said yesterday, he'd be okay with barr making the entire report public. though, the president could order barr to do so at anytime. meanwhile, lawmakers are making plans to have the attorney general testify on capitol hill. anne-marie. >> all right. laura podesta in new york. thank you, laura. the attorney best known for representing porn actress stormy daniels in lawsuits on president trump is now out on bond this morning. michael avenatti is charged with allegedly trying to extort nike. and in a separate case, bank fraud. meg oliver reports. >> reporter: michael avenatti

appeared in a federal court in manhattan, not representing the client, but facing multiple federal charges by u.s. attorneys in both california and new york. in california, avenatti faces federal bank and wire fraud charges. u.s. attorneys say he embezzled $1.6 million to pay his own expenses and debts. >> mr. avenatti used his clients' money to pay expenses for his own coffee business. >> reporter: they say he also defrauded a mississippi bank using phony tax returns to obtain millions of dollars in loans. >> which we believe he used to fuel a lavish lifestyle. >> reporter: in new york, avenatti faces federal extortion charges. u.s. attorneys say in meetings that took place just last week, avenatti threatened nike and demanded more than $20 million in payments. they say avenatti claimed to have evidence of nike employees funneling illegal payments to

top high school basketball prospects and their families. >> i am highly confident that when all of the evidence is laid bare in connection with these cases, when it is all known, when due process occurs, that i will be fully exonerated. and justice will be done. >> reporter: avenatti represented adult film star stormy daniels in lawsuits against president trump. avenatti could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted on wire and bank fraud charges. meg oliver, cbs news, clifton, new jersey. >> reportedly named in avenatti's extortion case is attorney mike geragos. geragos has had a long career representing celebrity clients including michael jackson, colin kaepernick and jussie smollett. geragos is not charged with the crime but is already feeling the fallout. cnn dropped him as a contributor. overseas now, israeli forces struck targets against the gaza

trim this morning in response to a rocket attack from palestinian territory. the latest round of fighting erupted ahead of elections for prime minister now just two weeks away. the israeli army said at least 30 rockets were fired into israel. last week, president trump declared that washington recognizes israeli sovereignty over the golan heights. a father whose daughter was killed in the shooting at sandy hook elementary has taken his own life. dr. jeremy richman's daughter avielle was one of 26 children and staff members killed in the shooting in 2012. he established a foundation, an organization that aimed at preventing violence through brain health research. just last week, he spoke about turning his grief into awareness. >> can you can imagine, that turns your world around quite a bit. you feel your world is spinning out of the control. and you're going to get spun off if you don't do something to grasp on, to find a meaning in things. >> richman's death comes just

days after two survivors of the school shooting in parkland, florida, died by suicide. and a ban on bump stock sales is expected to go into effect. weapons used in the las vegas shooting. the justice department issued a rule in december deciding that existing prohibition against fully automatic weapons also covered bump stocks. owners were given 90 days to turn in or destroy them and that period ended today. transportation officials are planning for hearings on the faa's aproving into the boeing jet crashes. the special advisory committee will take a critical look at the faa's approval process. it will make recommendations to secretary elaine chao and the faa administrator. they'll both be grilled by the senate tomorrow. meantime, that special committee will review the aircraft

certification process. airlines are warning that passengers could see more cancellations while safety fixes are updated. apple streaming plus is going to be released. chris martinez explains. >> apple tv plus. >> reporter: apple's ceo tim cook revealed his company's move into a streaming service with help from of the top names in hollywood. steven spielberg and oprah will producing content for apple tv plus. >> hello, am i late? >> reporter: actors steve carell, jennifer aniston and reese witherspoon will be in a new creation called "the morning show." >> we can't wait to show you what we've been cooking up. >> reporter: apple tv plus will be available this far and joined a crowded field of streaming service all vying for viewers. disney which recently merged

"the boston globe" reports a dozen sports coaches and test administrators pleaded not guilty in a nationwide college admissions scandal. the defendants appeared in federal court in boston yesterday. they're accused of taking bribes to help wealthy students into into some of the country's top schools. the parents include rich businessmen including actresses lori loughlin and felicity huffman. the man at the center of the alleged scheme, college admissions counselor rick singer has pleaded guilty. "the washington post" reports women who say they were sickened by breast implants are

demanding the fda take action to warn consumers against their risks. they appeared before an fda advisory panel yesterday to share stories of health problems. the women want the panel to recommend more long-term research, bans or restrictions on certain products and provide more information about the potential risks. the panel did not recommend any immediate restrictions on breast implants including ones that once were linked to a rare form of cancer. "stars and stripes," a u.s. military says that an incoming icbm was destroyed. in a missile test of the defense system. the government says that the intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from a test site in the marshall islands in the pacific. two ground base enter certainties more than 4,000 miles away were fire d from brandenburg air base in california. military officials called the tests a first-time achievement and critical milestone. the san diego union tribune says the last two pandas at the

san diego zoo will soon leave for china. a 27-year-old female panda and her 6-year-old son will gator as planned next month because a multiyear agreement with china is ending. the pandas first arrived at the zoo in 1996. >> this has been an extremely successful program. i believe that the international effort has prevented the species from going extinct. >> the san diego zoo panda program has produced six cubs and helped develop techniques used around the world to keep young pandas alive. april 27th is the last day the pandas can be viewed at the zoo. it's not known if or when pandas might inhabit the zoo again. and "usa today" reports the first ever all-female space walk has been cancelled. the historic walk by two female nasa astronauts was scheduled to take place on friday. but nasa says there's only one space suit that best fits both women. so the walk will take place with one male and one female astronaut.

on the "cbs moneywatch" tightening rules for first-time home buyers, and mcdonald's is personalizing the drive-through experience. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> good morning, anne-marie. well, investors will get inside news into the u.s. housing market today when the commerce department releases february's housing data. now in january, u.s. housing starts jumped more than 18%. labor costs have been a drag on the market in recent years. economists, however, are hopeful the momentum from january's housing starts will spill over to february. the federal agency that ensures mortgages for first-time home buyers is tightening standards. the federal housing administration is concerned it's allowing too many risky loans to be extended. the agency says more loans will be flagged as high risk and go through a more rigorous

nausea and vomiting. >> the major risk of not having surgery from appendicitis is that it would continue to inflame and then rupture or burst. and that could lead to a major abscess that could lead to severe sepsis and a protracted stay in the hospital or even death. >> reporter: diagnosing appendicitis can be difficult because the symptoms can be similar to other health issues. so doctors usually have to rule out kidney stones, gallbladder problems and urinary tract infections. most patients leave the hospital a day or two after surgery, and they're back to normal activities in two to six weeks. researchers around the country are currently studying using antibiotics versus surgery to treat appendicitis. >> the results aren't in yet. >> reporter: while anyone can develop appendicitis it most often occurs in people in the ages of 10 to 30.
