president trump renews the threat to shut down the southern border. a look at the ripple effect. good morning from studio 57 newsroom, it's cbs newsroom, good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. overnight in los angeles, a peaceful vigil to pay tribute to rap artist nipsey hussle erupted into chaos. police say up to 400 people gathered last night in front of a clothing store hussle owned when a fight broke out. at least 19 people were hospitalized and two in critical condition. "the los angeles times" says several people were stabbed in the fight. hussle, a grammy nominated rapper and community activist was shot sunday. the autopsy shows he was shot in the head and torso. two others were wounded in the shooting. police tweeted a photo of a

suspect overnight. they are looking for this man. eric holder is his name. the murder was caught on a surveillance camera. no motive has been disclosed. now, to capitol hill where members of the house oversight and reform committee meet this morning the discuss possible subpoenas to white house officials over security clearances. a whistleblower warned congress about grave security risk after the trump administration pushed through security clearances to more than two dozen people despite disqualifying issues. among them, jared kushner and ivanka trump. we have more on this. laura, good morning. >> good morning. that whistleblower is tricia newbold. for the last 18 years, she worked under republicans and democrats in the personnel security office at the white house. it is unclear if she will stay on the job following the allegations. the white house has yet to comment on her future. a career white house official

says 25 people in the trump administration were granted security clearances despite disqualifying issues. >> things like drug uses, criminal activity. >> reporter: a memo from elijah cummings says tricia newbolt felt this is my last hope to bring integrity into the office. >> the things she has told us -- >> reporter: newbold told the committee about two senior white house officials still on the job, both drew objections on staff. the objections were overruled, despite concerns such as foreign influence. none of the 25 people were named in the memo. the committee has been investigating security clearances of nine senior officials, including the president's son-in-law and white house adviser, jared kushner. fox news' laura ingraham asked

security says it may reassign 200 officers to stop the influx of immigrant families. manuel bojorquez has more. >> reporter: u.s. immigration officials say they have reached a breaking point of trying to handle the influx of people seeking asylum. >> the challenge that makes this so unique is the fact 70% of them are all family members and unaccompanied children. >> reporter: last week, they were housed in a caged section. officials said detention centers were beyond capacity. dhs was forced to release a thousand asue lum seekers back. president trump slashed the $700 million in u.s. aide to guatemala, el salvadr and honduras. it's a move that could only make the problem worse. the president's threat of shutting down the border has

fairfax of sexual assault are calling for a public hearing. they gave their first television interview to gayle king. tyson says he assaulted her in a hotel room during a democratic convention in boston in 2004 when she was a law student. she claims fairfax raped her 19 years ago when they were students at duke university. >> had i had the strength or the courage to say something in 2000, maybe it never would have happened to her. >> fairfax denies both accuser's allegations and called for an investigation. you can see more of the interview with gayle king coming up on "cbs this morning." president trump wants to make health care a priority. in a series of tweets, president trump says he is willing to wait until after the 2020 presidential election to get

congress to vote on a new health care plan. republican lawmakers have been unable to draft a proposal to replace the affordable care act. this last week, the president vowed the republican party will be the party of health care. the controversy over the decision to drop the charges against actor jussie smollett is showing no signs of dying down. there were demonstrations for and against the decision yesterday in chicago. the chicago police union held a protest against the state attorney whose office dropped the charges. foxx's supporters were on hand for a counter rally. >> there has to be accountability when people commit a crime. >> a trial in the news room rather than the courtroom. people get off all the time. prosecutors all over america see it. >> foxx recused herself from the investigation because she discussed the case with a family member. she welcomed a nonpolitical review of how the office handled the matter.

those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstands. boeing and the faa say more time is needed to fix the 737 max airliner. boeing is making software changes to the flight control system. it's believed to have played a role in two deadly crashes. boeing was expected to complete the work last week. faa says they need more time to address all the issues. the planes have been grounded all around the world since last month. "the new york times" reports a brooklyn man was found guilty of murdering a 30-year-old woman jogging near her home. after five hours of deliberation, the jury convicted lewis on murder and sexual abuse charges. it was the second trial. the first ended with a hung jury. her body was discovered in a park in 2016. he faces up to life in prison. his family plans to appeal. usa today reports the new york police department said they

are investigating sexual assault allegations against magician david blaine. two women told police blaine sexually assaulted him. one of the victims said she was attacked by the magician inside his manhattan apartment in 1998. blaine has not been charged with a crime. he told "the daily beast" he has no comment and has not been approached by police. the chicago tribune says voters will make history when they choose from two women vying to be the first african-american female mayor. today's run off election pits toni preckwinkle against lori lightfoot. they are both democrats. they were the top vote getters among the record field of 14 democrats in the first round. current chicago mayor, rahm emanuel is stepping down after serving two terms. still ahead, burger king's iconic sandwich goes vegetarian. the meatless whopper could be coming to a restaurant near you. vegetarian.

>> reporter: one last option, sally joined a trial at bay lor college of medicine using therapy. first, they remove her t-cells, infection fighting white blood cells and modified them to recognize her cancer as being enemy cells that should be destroyed. millions of those new cells were then put back into sally's body, ready to search out and destroy the cancer. it took 20 minutes. they were like, all right, that's it. of ten patients, three have stable disease and two, including nasar have no evidence of cancer. two are fda approved for forms of leukemia and lymphoma. the next is testing on lung. dr. louis weiner is with the
