from the studio 57 newsroom at if you are an early riser heading down the streets, there are a few isolated showers out cbs news headquarters here in there. you can see this one band of new york. good to be with you. rain that has moved in here now working into the north bay. i'm anne-marie green. this is bringing rain to 101 president trump will visit the southern border during a trip to california. just south of rohnert park and north of petaluma. the president leaves for that drive is getting rained on. calexico, california, this morning. but that is pretty much the only area. this after he backtracks on a threat to close the border. now, mr. trump says, he would if we look at the big picture, give mexico a year to work on though showers extend off the coast and the rest of us haven't seen a whole t immigration enforcement, and develop yet. take a look at the headlines he's adding a new threat. for today. isolated showers around from now to about 7 am. laura podesta is here with that once we get to 7 am, a.k.a. part of the story. good morning. >> good morning. that threat revolves around trade. just in time for the co the president is hoping that when money is at stake, mexico will listen. president trump is backing away from his threat to immediately close the u.s./mexico border. >> we're going to give them a one-year warning, and if the drugs don't stop or largely stop, we're going to put tariffs on mexico and products, in particular cars.ol game isar

office. this week they subpoenaed the full report, but the white house dismissed their claims. >> the public needs to see the whole report, no executive privilege, no redacting. eventually it all comes out. >> they lost in 2016 and on the collusion battle. now they're looking for anything they can to attack this president because they have no message. >> barr heads to capitol hill next week for his first hearing as an attorney general, and he's expected to face questions about if mueller investigation. new details are emerging about the criminal history of a man who police say claims to be an illinois boy who vanished eight years ago. he claimed to be timmothy pitzen, but dna test results revealed he's brian rini, a 23-year-old released from jail less than a week ago.

adriana diaz reports. >> it's devastating. it's like we're reliving it all over again. >> reporter: the family of timmothy pitzen is broken after the fbi's stunning announcement that the claim he had been found was a hoax. >> unfortunately this child is not our beloved timmothy. we know you're out there, tim, and we'll never stop looking for you. >> reporter: the fbi says the dna results have been returned. it's actually 23-year-old bian michael rooney of medina, ohio, who has a long criminal history. the claim came from this person who appeared in this quiet kentucky neighborhood startling neighbors who called police. >> he said he was kidnapped from somewhere. >> the man identified himself as 14-year-old timmothy pitzen and said he had escaped two

t s. the real timmothy pitzen has been missing for nearly eight years. when he was 6, cameras captured his mother amy walking him out of school and taking him to water parks. she was apparently found dead from suicide. she left a note saying her son was safe but would never be found. despite the small hope, there small hope continues. >> reporter: the fbi say they remain committed to one daymmhy his family. we're learning more about the man behind this hoax. he has a long criminal history including making false statements. adriana diaz, cbs news, newport, kentucky. boeing may be to blame in two deadly claims. 346 people died in two crashes within the span of five months involving ethiopian airlines and

lion air planes. now some members of congress want boeing to testify about what it may have known about the fally systems. the mother of one of the eight ethiopian crash responded to preliminary findings that the pilots had followed boeing's recommended procedures. >> obviously this could have been prevented and that's what makes me cry. this could have all been prevented. >> boeing's ceo has apologized for the company's role in the tragedy. the man accused of shooting and killing rapper nipsey hussle has been officially charged with murder. 29-year-old eric holder was in court yesterday. in los angeles. his attorney chris darden entered a plea of not guilty. darden was an attorney in the o.j. simpson trial. >> we want to make sure everyone who's responsible for the murder of nipsey hussles brought to

a russian soccer stadium has a new field thanks to recycled plastic beer cups. a belgian brewer that makes budweiser reprocessed more than 50,000 cups at the stadium last year that hosted the world cup. the almost three tons of plastic was used to make the white and red field in soki. so back home a berkeley engineer is accused of poisoning a co-worker, and new pressure for jussie smollett to pay up. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "chicago tribune" reports the city is prepared to sue empire actor jussie smollett after he failed to pay $130,000. he had until yesterday to reimburse the cost of police overtime spent investigating what they call a staged racist homophobic attack. smollett said he told the truth about the alleged january attack. prosecutors abruptly dropped criminal charges against him last week.

the "los angeles times" says a berkeley, california, engineer is in jail. he's charged with trying to kill a co-worker by poisoning her foot and water with toxic metal over several months. a colleague of david xu said she noticed a strange taste and smell in her food she left in her office. surveillance video allegedly caught xu adding something to her bottle. a sample of that water later tested positive for cadmium, which can cause cancer or death. "the boston globe" is reporting that a wealthy maryland businessman bought the house of the school's fencing coach for an inflated price, and then his son got into harvard. jie zhao
