francisco. public health officials says someone with the disease visited several sites from april 1st through the 3rd throughing caltrans stations and the federal building. authorities point out there's no outbreak in the risk to the public is low. we'll post more information on kpix.com. alameda is holding a special election today. residents will decide whether a prized area remains an open park or it be comes a new homeless center. today's vote will determine the fate of the land on mckay avenue by crab cove. kpix5 jackie ward picks up the debate. >>reporter: that is a place to go for a walk or take a view, but after the a -- after the vote, it could be a place for homeless. one ask if this should be an open space or transformed into a homeless center. >> this is my town and i have my kids here, so it's hard.

for people living in the affected area. department of health will issue violations. and fines to people who remain unvaccinated. we have a situation now where children are in danger. we have to take this seriously. >> people who don't get the mmr vaccine could be fined $1,000. unvaccinated students will not be allowed in schools or day cares in new york. in san francisco, a proposal to shutdown juvenile hall will be presented at city hall. a group of supervisors says the city spends too much on juvenile hall. $13 million a year especially considering it is 75% empty. there are 150 beds, but only about 3 dozen juvenile prisoners at any given time. mayor breed says she's opposed to shutting down juvenile hall without a plan to do with young offend ares and yesterday she appointed a

30-member blue ribbon committee to follow the issue. chopper 5 live overhead in downtown berkeley you can see a fire going pretty good there. the smoke pouring into the sky. this is near downtown on delaware street. 1811 to be exact. that's the address there. and you could see it's near several other buildings. so that's the challenge for firefighters right now. you can see them working on the side of the building that is on fire. they're going to need to try and stop this fire from spreading to all of those buildings, and then of course we have those trees right there by this fire which is out of control. so we are going to keep an eye on this fire right now. burning in downtown berkeley, and pretty dense area, so that does present a lot of danger, but it looks like they have a couple of dozen firefighters there. at least on the scene right now trying to get this contained to the building where it is right now. but that smoke,

so that is something that could be visible from some of the nearby highways as well. and i'm not sure exactly how far that smoke is being carried right now by the windy conditions we have. those conditions expected to pickup and become more windy throughout the day as mary was talking about earlier. so chopper 5 pulling out right now to give us a broader view of the scene and we're going to be keeping an eye on that fire in downtown berkeley coming up, it is no subtle height. >> the thieves that picked an unusual tool to an atm. the first of a kind program in the country and how teachers in this school is learning how to reverse an overdose.

back to that breaking news. chopper 5 over downtown berkeley where at least one home is on fire. >> this is the scene right now. what's going on, this is at 1811 delaware street in berkeley. firefighters desperately trying to save that building there. it's kind of hard to see with all that smoke in the area, but you can see some of the crews, some of the firefighters down there picking up some of that debris trying to get that fire under control. again, thick smoke in that area, so it's hard to see what's underneath because the wind is just blowing, but it looks like the back of this home, there's some kind of structure where we actually saw the frame of it. so that might be lost in this fire. it's hard to tell. you can see though, it is a dense neighborhood. the homes are very close to each other and of course, there's a lot of trees in that area which is a concern

especially on a day like today with windy conditions. >> you can see that smoke blowing around right now. this is very close to aloni park in berkeley. it's on the north side of downtown. and as our chopper zoom in, you can see the firefighters working to get that fire under control. it looks like something is sustaining serious damage, is to stop this from spreading and the smoke is pretty white right now, which is a good indication they have a decent hold on it. you can see them pulling back some of their hoses right now. so they're going to just need to make sure that it doesn't spread to some of those other houses, that's a matter of feet. >> we're going to stay on top of this and keep you posted with more information as we get it. we want to show you this video. some thieves picked an unusual tool to steal an atm. they used a digger. you can the equipment driving a securityland with masks m

a situation like this. >> giving instructions is state nurse administrator jennifer vetrus. >> we developed this training to teach people in absent of a nurse how to give this drug. >> preparation is underway three hours north near alabama. >> the drug is important because it works fast. >> trainings started at sparkman last month. we were there when bella and maze learned how this device works. >> five, four, three. >> it's very similar to an epipen. so it's relatively easy to use which is good. >> more than 400 opioid-related overdose deaths were reported in the state of alabama in 2017. according to the cdc, the state ranked highest in the nation in opio escriptions back in 2015. the state is set to have more descriptions than the number of people. the drug costs $178 per dose. all paid for

structure fire in downtown berkeley and i checked the wind conditionings and firefighters are up against northwesterly winds at 20 miles per hour and the winds will kick up as we head through the day. here's a look at our forest camera. upper 50s to low to mid 60s at this hour. he's the satellite and radar view. and this is why we are talking about the windy conditions. we have a high pressure to our west and these other two features close together. strong winds for today. we had a cold front yesterday. and behind the front, also helping to pick up the winds. fewer tour cast as we head through -- future cast as we head through today, plenty of sunshine through the week. we're going to continue to seep wig winds increasean coastnd up in the hills, but us across the bay area will see the winds today. and still looking at breezy conditions as we

head through tonight into tomorrow. pollen count, because of the dry weather, also the winds, we're looking at pollen count levels medium to high today. increasing as we go through wednesday and especially by thursday and friday. our sunset at 7:39 and our sunrise at 6:41. so temperatures are in the 60s, so cooler compared to yesterday, but mild. right where we should be for this time of year. there we go with the 7-day forecast. dry weather through the workweek and into the weekend. we'll right back.

this is crazy. a los angeles county man went to the gym for an early morning workout, and he didn't know that there was going to be this rude awakening awaiting him here. video showing the moment that samuel hopped on a treadmill and that happened seconds after he stepped onto that treadmill. a red mercedes suv barrels through the window slamming into him and throwing him on the ground. the gym manager ran to help. as for the driver, no word if charges have been filed and witnesses are saying she's cooperating with police. at 5:00, it's coyote puppy season and it means the pets could be more aggressive. we'll have that story and more at 5:00. thanks for joining us today at noon. >> ellen and veronica, they'll see you at 5:00. have a great afternoon, everybody. >> hang onto those
