a well, a potentially late-season storm plans to slam the midsection affecting millions of americans. forecasters say the storm system could drop more than a foot of snow in some states. this snow is impacting some of the states that left areas flooded last week. parts of wisconsin were especially hard hit. emergency officials are preparing for any scenario. >> we don't know if we're going to have snow, if we're going to have rain. potential for everything. it's kind of like we got everything. >> last month's floodwaters are not gone. and the missouri river has not fully receded. that's made it tough for people living there and trying to rebuild. >> it's been miserable for people, it really has. there's outhouses all over town.

you know, you can't -- we couldn't shower, we couldn't do laundry, nothing. >> parts of north dakota could get nearly a foot of snow from this storm. that is not good news for the red river and fargo moorhead area, which is working toward its peak if 2019. right now it's just shy of the 30-feet predicted crest. that's about 17 feet over flood stage and the storm is not welcome news in minnesota either. parts of that state are still dealing with the flooding. major roads remain washed out and some remain closed today. the water level has gone up nearly 12 feet in just the last week. in other news, today is homeland security's secretary kirstjen nielsen's last day. he'll likely take that message to the border state of texas where he's headed later on today. laura podesta is here with more on this. good morning, laura. >> good morning, anne-marie.

the president is expected to attend a pair of fund-raisers and hold roundtables with supporters in texas. it's his second visit to a border state in the past few days as he shakes up his immigration team. today is the last day on the job for department of homeland security secretary kirstjien nielsen and acting deputy grady. the white house is frustrated by the agency's immigration policy. >> if you got rid of catch and release, chain migration, visa lottery, you have to fix the >> president trump denied wanting to reinstate his family separation policy from last year. >> we're not looking to do it. >> but claimedleoming. they're coming like it's a picnic because let's go to disneyland.

>> new figures from customs and border protection show nearly 93,000 migrants were apprehended trying to cross the southern border illegally in the last month. many republicans want to vote on a legislative fix. >> to the extent we can find a bipartisan solution, count me in. >> but it appears the white house is ready to fight it on its even. that includes one rule change to extend the stay for children. >> they've decided getting tougher is the answer. they're wrong. >> the trump administration also wants to make it harder for immigrants to seek asylum, but those changes are likely to be contested in court where a handful of the president's other policies have been struck down. later today customs and borders protection commissioner kevin mcaleenan will take over as acting dhs secretary. anne-marie. >> laura podesta here in new york.

much, benjamin netanyahu is expected to be headed toward a historic fifth term and the country's longest leader. he leads his opponent benny gantz. both netanyahu and gantz have claimed history. official results are expected tomorrow. attorney general william barr is returning to capitol hill for the second time this week. barr will speak to a senate appropriations subcommittee today. yesterday barr told house lawmakers that he will release special counsel robert mueller's report within a week with some parts redacted. nikole killion reports from capitol hill. >> reporter: attorney general william barr was on capitol hill tuesday. it was his firns appearance since he first submitted the report.

s barr told the house appropriations committee that a redacted version of the report would soon be available. >> my original timetable of being able to release this by mid-april stands. >> reporter: democrats criticized the attorney general's handling of the report starting with the letter he sent congress. >> all we have is your four-page summary which seems to cherry pick from the report to draw the most favorable conclusion possible for the president. >> reporter: barr explained why it took only two days to produce an outline of mueller's findings. >> the thinking of the special counsel was not a mystery to the people at the department of justice prior to his submission of the report. >> reporter: the attorney general had been summoned to capitol hill to discuss his budget, but the hearing kept coming back to the mueller report.

>> no collusion, no obstruction, it's done. it's over. >> the letter speaks for itself. >> i thought it did too. >> reporter: democrats have been threatening to subpoena the mueller report and all of its underlying documents. they say they're waiting to see how much the attorney general plans to redact from it. nikole killion, cbs news, capitol hill. treasury secretary steven mnuchin told lawmakers will follow the law. >> you're not afraid of being fired if you don't release the returns. >> i'm not afraid of being fired at all. >> very good. >> having said that, again, i want to be clear. i said we will follow the law. >> you were very clear, and i'm very pleased you're not afraid of being fired. >> they requested the tax returns from the irs.

he imposed the deadline for today for the returns to be turned over. we're learning more about the three u.s. ma koreans killed in a roadside bombing in afghanistan. they're identified as robert hendriks, benjamin hines, and christopher slutman. slutman was a 15-year veteran of the new york city fire department. he received a medal for rescuing a woman from a burning apartment. mayor de blasio ordered flags be flown half-staff in honor of him and he leaves behind a wife and three daughters. so coming up on the "morning news" now, actress lori loughlin and a dozen other parents face new charges in the college admissions scandal. and a basketball stunner. magic johnson makes a surprise announcement. this is the "cbs morning news." and clearer skin. man 2: proof that i can fight psoriatic arthritis...

the champions of college basketball are back home in charlottesville, virginia. the university of virginia cavaliers received a roaring welcome from thousands of students yesterday after returning with the school's first national championship. the cavs defeated texas tech 88-87. another story. magic johnson made a surprise announcement. >> and additional charges in the college scandal. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "los angeles times" reports lori loughlin, her husband, and 14 other parents with charged with conspiracy to money laundering and trying to write off bribes as charitable contributions.

they're accused of paying $5,000 to get their children into usc. they and felicity huffman and other parents have decided to plead guilty. >> these are two very different people being treated in a manner that's not comparable. every time lori loughlin reacts the way she reacts to felicity huffman's plea, lori loughlin gets herself in more and more trouble. two bodies found to be in dominican republic are believed to be two americans vacationing there. orlando moore and portia ravenelle were supposed to return to the airport, by they never returned. police think they were involved in a car accident. an injured woman was found on a

highway. she later died in a hospital. the "washington post" is asking the court to dismiss a $250 million lawsuit of parents by a student. the suit claims the post coverage of nicholas sandmann's encounter with an american indian activist at the lincoln memorial was false and defamatory. the parents say it caused irreparable harm and distress. the "post" says its stories were accurate and did not harm the teen's reputation. cbssports.com reports magic johnson has stepped down from is president of los angeles lakers basketball operations. he announced it last night. he did not tell owner jeanie buss before announcing them to the media. johnson became president a little more than two years ago and he said he wanted to go back to having fun.

investigators are looking into what caused the accident though. on the "cbs moneywatch," a billion dollar medicare scam is busted, and uber rolls out vouchers. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> good morning, anne-marie. investors have a packed day ahead of them. first the consumer price index for march will be released later this morning. this data is viewed as a key inflation gauge. meanwhile in washington ceos from big banks will head to capitol hill today. they'll testify before the financial house committee about holding banks accountable for the financial crisis from ten years ago. the dow tumbled 190 points. the s&p 500 lost 17 points, and the nasdaq fell 44 points. meijer is recalling more than 43,000 pounds of ground beef because they may be contaminated with pieces of plastic. this recall affects products produced and prepackaged under

the meijer label with a sell by date of april 10th, 2019. it was sold in michigan, illinois, wisconsin, and kentucky. the justice department says a scam involved trying to sell unneeded orthopedic braces to hundreds of thousands of seniors using foreign call centers. charged were filed against 2,000 people across the u.s. including doctors accused of writing bogus conditions for unnecessary back, shoulder, wrist, and knee braces. and uber has launched a voucher program to help brick and mortar retailers. it enables companies like westfield mall and tgf fridays to offer free or discounted uber rides to customers. the new voucher program comes right before uber is expected to officially announce its ipo. anne-marie. >> diane king hall at the new york stock exchange. thanu soh, d. >> you've got it.

pediatrics has joined growing calls to have a fisher-price baby sleeper recalled. "consumer reports" has linked 32 infant deaths to that sleeper. jan crawford spoke to the parents of one of those children. >> reporter: in december 2017 keenan and evan overton awoke to find their 5-year-old son ezra on his stomach unresponsive. >> and i saw ezra face down with his nose squished into the back of the seat, and he was already passed away. i picked him up, and he was like a doll. >> reporter: ezra died of suffocation. >> my heart's just broken. >> reporter: the overtons say the fisher-price rock n sleeper was to blame. they're speaking out in the wake of a "consumer reports" investigation that found that 32 babies died in a rock 'n play similar to the one used by ezra, their once healthy happy son. >> we had no reason to suspect it was dangerous because it was fisher-price.
