city. christin ayers talks about the dangers that pedestrians face on the street. >>reporter: it has been a deadly year in san francisco for pedestrian and today, mayor breed and other city officials are using walk to workday to call for safer streets. a 14-year-old girl walking her dog killed when this black mercedes struck her near lake merced. she was one ofixpedestrian killd in traffic incidents this year. >> we're walking to work today. >> it's a problem that mayor breed and other city officials hope to highlight as they walk to work today surrounded by cameras. >> it's about public safety and making sure that we don't continue to have some of the challenges we've had. >> breed says san francisco's streets need improvements to protect pedestrian and bicyclist. >> how are you working to make the streets safer? >> part of what i said earlier, extending the timing on some of the lights, protective bike lanes. >> it's about public safety. it's about keeping

osian avenue and they found two men -- the other was taken to the hospital. so far no arrests. a new report calls for a bay area wide push to tackle the region's homeless crisis. the bay area -- more than 28,000 homeless people are in the nine county bay area. the 5th largest concentration in the country. they estimate it would take $2.7 billion to pertinently house those people and the report calls for a bay area wide data base to coordinate services for the homeless and for the state to create a new agency to tackle the problem. oakland's ghostship warehouse trial continues today. at issue, what testimony and evidence should beinuded. the defendants derrick almeno and harris is charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. pools of potential jurors filled out questionnaires for next week's

for the first time ever, astronomers are revealing the image of a black hole. it's a project that took more than a decade. a network of telescopes and hundreds of researchers to accomplish. as reporter tom hanson explains, scientist are planning to dive even deeper into outer space. >> here it is.
