good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. so we are just hours away from the release of the long awaited mueller report. attorney general william barr is expected to hold a press conference with deputy general rod rosenstein at 9:30 a.m. eastern time. that is, before releasing the redacted report. house democrats are requesting he cancel that yvette. why lawmakers say it's not a good idea to address the public before the release of the report. natalie, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. they want to see this report first. we learned that it's due to be delivered between 11:00 and noon to be delivered on cds.

so the attorney general's news conference ahead of this release is receiving criticism on capitol hill. president trump says he's confident ahead of today's release of robert mueller's nearly 400-page report. >> this should never happen to a president or to this country again, what took place, and you' see a of veg things come out tomorrow. >> a redacted version will be made public this morning. >> we will provide explanatory notes describing the basis for each redaction. >> just before its release, attorney general william barr is expected to hold a news conference. >> he has briefed the white house on the report. >> white house judiciary chairman jerry nadler accuses barr of covering for president trump and he says he'll spin the report's findings. >> attorney general barr is not allows the facts of the report speak for itself but is trying to bake in the narrative about the report to the benefit of the white house. >> barr released a four-page summary of the report last month. in it he said mueller found no

evidence of coordination between the trump campaign and russia, but mueller did not make a conclusion on whether the president had obstructed justice, leaving that to barr, who determined mr. trump had not. >> american voters might feel differently. congress might feel differently. >> former acting assistant attorney general mary mccourt says the public will soon be able to make its own judgment. >> there's a whole lot of daylight between nothing happened and nothing was committed. >> cbs news has learned personal attorneys have been working on a counter-report that's been in the works for months. the president also indicated yesterday that he may speak to reporters after the release today. we learned it will be posted on the special counsel's website once it's out, and the bookstore barnes & noble says it's offering free downloads of the mueller report and already taking preorders. anne-marie. >> natalie brand in washington. thank you, natalie.

we're going to go on to the other big story of the day. a storm system is threatening 60 million people across the midwest and south. the severe thunderstorms have background wind and thunder in some states. chief meteorologist paul deanno of our san francisco station kpi exis tracking this multi-day storm threat. >> more than 100 million americans will be under the threat of severe weather over the next 48 hours. let's get to it. this morning it is east texas stretching in to louisiana dealing with this severe weather right now. it's a classic setup. strong low pressure system over the red river valley pulling in very warm, very humid, and very unstable air, and a lain of strong thunderstorms with wind gusts will march east over the next two days.

so our severe weather outlook for today includes wind damage, hail, and isolated tornadoes. the biggest risk, the strongest risk is much of the state of alabama, much of the state of mississippi, and also the eastern half of louisiana, including the cities of jackson and birminghamnd and new orleans with slight thunderstorm risks, severe thunderstorm risks. on friday the storm and severe weather threat moves east. the highest risk of severe thunderstorms which includes isolated tornadoes once again stretches from south washington, d.c., including norfolk, raleigh, all the way to north carolina but a slight risk all the way north to our nation's capitol. all of this will move out and the weather will calm down as we head toward easter sunday. there will be snow in the mountains in colorado and higher elevations there, but no severe weather expected for easter sunday, and weather will be calmer after an ticactive days. i'm paul deanno for cbs news.

we're learning more about a man who was arrested after trying to bring gas cans and lighters into a cathedral in new york city. cbs news confirms 37-year-old marc lamparello is from new jersey. he was arrested for reckless development. jenna deangelis is outside st. patrick's cathedral with more on this story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. the scene has cleared here at st. patrick's cathedral and the church is expected to operate as normal when it is opened. the police tell me marc lamparello wasn't arrested. he has a history with police. he was stopped by security as he tried to enter the church last night carrying gas cans, lighter fluid, and lighters.

he told police he ran out of gas and wanted to cut through the church to get to the other street. police checked it out and found that wasn't true. police say there's always heightened security in this area of the city. >> there was some very good work done here obviously by the st. patrick's cathedral security officer who encountered this man immediately inside. >> it's so sad. p i mean i walk past this church every -- or this cathedral every day, and i think it's just really sad that anyone would want to do something like that. >> reporter: as of now, a motive is unclear, but investigators say they're not ruling out the possibility of terrorism. st. patrick's was opened at the time of the arrest and it's the holiest of the year for the catholic faith. anne-marie? >> thank you is muso much, jenn.

investigators in paris say firefighters saved notre dame minutes from when it could have collapsed. the ranging inferno destroyed the 850-year-old iconic roof. it took 18 minutes to find the fire on the roof after the first alarm went off. the fire was probably an accident. prosecutors plan on interviewing workers from five companies that been hired to renovate the cathedral's roof. and a woman authorities say was infatuated with the columbine massacre and posed what they called a credible threat has been found dead in an apparent suicide. a three-day search ended when authorities found the body of 18-year-old sol pais yesterday. p pais set off alarms when traveling from florida to denver on monday. while traveling she bought a shotgun and ammunition. her post on facebook read, be

the cars are the stars at america's largest auto show as it revs up to open to the public this saturday. previews for the annual extravaganza for the latest and greatest vehicles are on display at the new york international auto show. there's a lot of eye candy and a glimpse into the future of what cars may look like in the years ahead from concepts to the latest models. major carmakers will roll out more than 1,000 cars and trucks during the ten-day event. on "cbs moneywatch," facebook may have uploaded the email contacts of millions of users, and possible problems with the new samsung foldable phone. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> good morning, anne-marie. pinterest and zoom will make their public market debuts today. yesterday pinterest price's shars at $19, valleying the company at around $10 billion. it will trade on the new york stock exchange.

video conferencing company zoom is at $36 per share valued at $9 billion. it will trade at the nasdaq. notable earnings include american express, bb & t. stocks closed lower. the dow shed 3 points. the s&p 500 lost 6 points. the nasdaq fell 4 points. facebook says it may have, quote, unintentionally uploaded email contacts of 1.5 million new users. it stemmed from asking for a new users' contacts were collected this way since may of 2016. facebook says it did not share it with anyone and is deleting it. a spokesperson has said the glitch has been fixed. a black eye on samsung. some tech reviewers of the galaxy fold said the phone

cbs news was the first to report that an american airlines jet nearly crashed during takeoff in new york last week. soon after that the national transportation safety board launched a formal investigation. chris van cleave followed up on his reporting. >> reporter: cellphone video shows some of the damage after the plane returned to the jfk airport. initial reports say the plane struck an object shortly after takeoff. now reports are saying it was far close, as close as you can come to near crashing. >> as close to near death as i've experienced. i count my lucky stars i'm here today. >> reporter: air traffic control captures the pilot describing what happened. >> we were banking, uncontrolled bank 45 degrees to the left. >> reporter: that 45-degree roll happened just as the airbus

a-321 was attempting to lift off. it slammed into a runway line and hit a light pole before the plane got airport. the 5-year-old jet was loaded with 110 people and fueled for a cross-country flight to los angeles? this felt like a severe roll. we thought we were going to roll over. i was on the right side within two seconds after takeoff. i was staring straight at the ground. >> reporter: the force of the impact bent the wing and that's a runway light embedded in the wing. former ntsb chair mark rosenker said the incident happened at about the worst possible moment. >> literally it could have taken the aircraft out. >> you're talking about a crash. >> absolutely. >> reporter: the plane flew for 28 minutes presumably with the light embedded in the wing as it returned to jfk. the ntsb will lead the investigation at the center of it. why did the plane bank like it did?
