studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters in new york. anne-marie green has the day off. i'm brook silva-braga. good to be with you. authorities inanka urw this devastating terror attack, the country's deadliest violence since the civil war ended there nearly a decade ago. nine explosions took places miles apart, three at church holding easter services, three others at hotels. in all, 290 people were killed including several americans. local media now says at least 24 people are under arrest. the attacks being blamed on religious extremists. tom hanson is in new york with more. tom, good morning. >> good morning, brook. while that curfew has lifted, authorities are cautioning americans to avoid tourist hubs and public events. meanwhile police are investigating how this possibly could have happened. police raided homes and arrested

multiple suspects in the hours after the easter sunday bombings killed hundreds in sri lanka. authorities are investigating reports that the intelligence community may have known of a e taken. >> reporter: sri lanka's prime minister called for unity and support within the country. >> we have to make sure terrorism does not lift itself in sri lanka. >> reporter: the string of bombings ripped through luxury hotels and three catholic churches. this man says his family was celebrating easter morning mass at st. anthony's. >> mass was at 8:30. they all got caught. there were three people, mother, father, child, they all died. >> reporter: another explosion destroyed the roof of st. sebastian's. the violence reminds many of the long and bloody civil war that ended a decade ago. >> it's been ten years of peace, and we got used to that. so that's why it's really surprising and shocking. >> reporter: the country blocked

started easter sunday at a florida church with his family. >> happy easter, everybody. have a great day. >> reporter: in a chipper tweet the president wrote, i have never been happier or more content, but clearly he's not happy about the mueller report. he blasted it as a hit job and wrote can you believe i had to go through the worst political witch hunt throughout the history of the united states? no collusion. at his own easter service robert mueller remained silent. the president's personal lawyer rudy giuliani says his client is a angry at mueller. >> why wouldn't you be angry at a person who's accused you of a crime of treason even if it's untrue. >> reporter: he said even if the president had fired mueller, it would not have been obstruction of justice. >> at that time he had several good reasons to fire mueller. >> reporter: democrats are taking a close look at the times the president may have obstructed justice as mueller

past interactions with women. at least seven women have come forward and said he made them feel uncomfortable. it's still very early in the race, but even before the announcement, biden had led the polls for the presidential nomination. he would be the 20th presidential candidate to run for your the race. the administration will not renew waivers for china, india, japan, south korea, and turkey. it may expire on may 2nd. the move is an escalation of the trump administration's maximum campaign toward iran. oil prices spiked 3% and it could cost gas prices here in the u.s. to go up as well. indiana state police plan to announce new information into the investigation into the murders of two teenagers who were killed near delphi, indiana, in february of 2017.ng

avalanche have been recovered. jess roskelley of spokane and austrian's david lama and hans sorg auer were caught in last week's avalanche. bad weather delayed the search for their bodies. one of their recovered phones apparently had an image as you can see of the trio smiling showing they had reached the summit before their deaths. "the boston globe" says 13 passengers on an american airlines were hospitalized after landing at logan airport. officials say they are high school-aged students and chaperones who contracted food poisoning in ecuador. they got sick on the flight home. they apparently all ate from the same restaurant in ecuador on saturday night. american airlines says they have all been released from the hospital. our partners over at the bbc
