his run for the white house, democrats grapple over impeachment. >> if we take it there, we have no choice. and good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. anne-marie green has the day off. i'm brook silva-braga. good to be with you. sri lanka's prime minister warns several suspects armed with explosives are still at large following the easter terror attack there. the death toll from sunday's bombings have risen to 359. that includes four americans. sri lanka's defense miniter says more suspects were arrested overnight. that raises the total to at least 60. the fbi has joined the investigation. tom hanson is here in new york. good morning. >> good morning, brook. while the motive isn't completely clear, one retaliation is there and more threats may still be out there.

as the burials continue for the hundreds killed in the easter sunday bombings in sri lanka, security forces remain on high alert outside of st. anthony's church where black and white ribbons hang to mourn those who died. the country's prime minister says several suspects with explosives are still at large. isis released this video, claiming these are the suicide bombers responsible for attacking several churches and hotels. officials were apparently warned of the attack but did nothing. the president promises the construction of security cameras. this security camera video shows the suspected suicide bomber as he approached st. sebastian church. he enters by a side door and moments later detonates his bach. of the more than 350 killed on sunday, at least 45 were children.

to blow up a church or house of worship is one thing, and then the following day when an individual is found with chemicals that could create an explosion, that changes things. >> that substance was potassium nitrate, which is harmless on its own but can be used as a component in skplousivs. they're looking into media accounts. it's not clear what charges he might face. in california, police are investigating whether a man deliberately drove a car into a group of people, sending eight to the hospital with serious injuries. police say witnesses spotted the man speeding through a busy intersection outside san jose last night before plowing into a crowd. they say he apparently made no effort to stop before hitting the pedestrians. the youngest victim was a 13-year-old boy. the driver was arrested. former vice president joe biden is expected to jump into the presidential race tomorrow. he'd be joining 20 other candidates running for the

democratic nomination. it's a sprawling field divided over whether the house should begin impeachment proceedings against president trump. ed o'keefe reports on that. >> reporter: after months of anticipati anticipation, he's finally getting in. >> you build merge. we build america. >> reporter: the former vice president will be launching his campaign with a video on thursday following by a rally in pittsburgh next week. it's biden's first for the white house and first with him at the front of the pack according to the latest polls. but at 76, he'll be the oldest seeking nominations from the younger more liberal democratics. >> i believe congress should achment. steps toward >> several contenders are pushing for it. >> i believe every senate in the house ought to have to vote. >> reporter: while others say impeachment would just distract from the message.

>> reporter: ed o'keefe, cbs news, capitol hill. treasury secretary steve mnuchin says his house will take final action for president trump's tax returns by next month. u.s. treasury missed yesterday's deadline to turn over the tax returns. since 2016 mr. trump said he'll not release the returns while they're under an irs audit, though no law prevents him from doing so. the brothers involved in alleged attack on jussie smollett have been falsely accused of a hate crime. they don't believe smollett's versions of the events, the lawyers did claim he did attack them. they maintain their clients are innocent. >> let me make thing one thing perfectly clear. the chicagoan brothers told the truth. they could have remained silent.

the pgood of a japanese tourist was found there. the "washington post" reports. the "post" says much of the oval office chat focused the president trump's concerned that twitter has removed most or some of his followers. he's previously expressed concern tech companies sensor voices, which the company denies. trump said it was a great meeting and focused on, quote, protecting the health of the public conversation heading into the 2020 election. the minimum age to 21 within the next 90 days. walgreens will also increase the age requirement to 21 beginning september 1st. earlier this year the fda put walgreens on notice for allegedly selling the products to minors. cvs stopped selling the tobacco products in 2014. meanwhile kohl's will start accepting items for return to amazon. beginning in july, customers can return eligible amazon items. to more than 1,100 kohl stores nationwide. and your supermarket might be keeping a very close eye on your. krogers and walgreens are testing built-in shelf cameras that try to guess your gender, age, your mood as you walk be.

a fellow student. it's not known what charges the student might face. the pool of presidential hopefuls continue to swell. cbs news has learned former vice president joe biden is set to launch his campaign tomorrow. and then he'll hold a kickoff rally in pittsburgh next week. this would bring the number of democratic candidates to 21. it's getting more and more expensive at the pump. aaa says the national average is now $2.85 a gallon. that's up 23 cents from last month. and in california, the price is more than $4 a gallon. that's a 50 cent increase. jamie yuccas has more on that. >> reporter: for eight straight weeks gas prices continue to climb across the country. >> i've never seen this high of gas ever. >> reporter: no one has seen the hit as high than california drivers. they're seeing the highest prices in nearly five years.
