now at noon, the fbi looking into a driver who hit a group of pedestrians in sunnyvale. police say this could be a case of domestic terrorism. good afternoon. i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle

griego. police say that may have been intentional. >> anne mackovec say the feds may be involved. >>reporter: police are going to give us information about their condition at 3:00 p.m. as well as release the name of the driver. they believe plowed into this crowd on purpose. it was 6:40 last night when the driver of this black corolla plowed by a crosswalk on el camino real and drove up on the sidewalk where he continued to hit people. 8 people were injured. some in critical condition and the youngest patient is a 13-year-old girl. after careening through the crowd, the driver crashed into this tree. >> he came out of the vehicle, and basically gave up. it looks like he was waiting for the police to arrive on scene. >> he's been in police custody since. this intersection is surrounded by busy shopping centers and there were a lot of people nearby. >> we had no idea what happened. there was two male bodies lying on the

cement. they were hit by the driver. >> several witnesses told police there were no signs the driver tried to avoid the crash. information corroborated on scene where investigators found no skid marks. they say the driver may have even accelerated at the last minute. >> there was an active investigation going onto determine the motivation and motive as to what led him to do this. >> among the charges, the driver can face assault with a deadly weapon or attempted homicide. they will be releasing more information on the suspect as well as his mugshot at 3:00 this afternoon. they've been spending the morning talking with people who work with him, who live near him, and they're hoping more witnesses will come forward. live in sunnyvale, anne mackovec, kpix5. police are searching an apartment complex in sunnyvale that may be connected with the crash investigation. these are pictures just in from the scene. it's unclear exactly what authorities are looking for. we'll have much

setting back its reopening date again. >> first it was the cracked beams and it's the path that runs through the rooftop garden and the project expected to cost up to 1 million and the project has been inaccessible to the bubble. small -- but its continued to get worse even without foot traffic during the closure. now, the brand new transit center has been shutdown since october when workers discovered cracks in two beams and crews installed two new beams and that work is expected to be completed in july. the contractors -- with this new issue of the pathway, it's not clear when that's going to be. michelle. >> emily, thank you. taking a live look outside.

blue skies across the bay area. the temperature is setting a record in contra costa county. >> we have where things are heating up with mary lee. >> michelle and kenny, we are watching those temperatures rise, and a few spots will likely break records for today. record highs. and you can see temps right now in the 70s and in the 80s at this hour. a live look of our oakland airport camera. temperatures compared to yesterday at this time, looking at similar temperatures, some spots a little cooler. other spots a few degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. but in concord, likely breaking a record today. today's record high is set last year of 85. forecasting 89 in concord this afternoon. we'll talk about when we'll see temperatures a little bit cooler in that 7-day forecast coming up. kenny. >> thank you. president trump is taking to congressional democrats. he says he doesn't want his staffers complying with their investigators. nicole killian is at the white house.

>>reporter: president trump is pushing back against democrat led investigations on capitol hill. >> i say it's enough. >> the president told the "washington post" his staffers should not testify on capitol hill. he says they cooperated fully with special counsel robert mueller. end quote. there's no reason to go further especially in congress where it's very partisan. this follows a house judiciary committee of former white house committee mcgahn who was quoted in mueller's report more than 150 times. >> we're fighting all the subpoenas. these are impartial people. the democrats are trying to win 2020. >> house speaker nancy pelosi has congress has the constitutional responsibility of over sight and she denies the investigations are purely political. >> it's not political, it's about -- >> president trump is also trying to prevent democrats from looking into

news, former vice-president joe biden will launch his campaign. he's leading the 2020 hopefuls of 20%. that's 7% ahead of san ders and biden's pack sent an e-mail to supporters on tuesday hinting an announcement is coming soon. he's been toying with the idea of getting in the race for a year now. biden has made a run for president twice before. at 76, be the second oldest candidate. jong un is in -- today kim met with russian officials near a train station before travelling to the port city of vos to being for today's summit. no joint statements are said to begin. there's talks between north korea and the united states. the death toll from sunday's easter bomb attacks

caltrans spent much of the morning mopping this up mess in placer county. you're looking at 30,000 pounds of frozen food -- lanes opened an hour ago. this happened after a semi truck caught fire before 6:00 this morning. a truck turned on its side. it's not clear what led up to the crash and no word on the driver's condition. two teenage boys are under arrest following a smash-and-grab robbery on the peninsula. palo alto police say johnson and flores of daily city were breaking into vehicles at a parking garage last week on bryan street near an apple store. police caught the 18 year olds as they were trying to leave and stolen property was returned. investors will keep an eye on reports from tesla and facebook. they're due out this afternoon. as we take a look at the big board, seeing how the dow is doing with about 45 minutes to go and the dow is down

15 points. parents are having a tough time cutting the cord. 50% of parents are sacrificing their retirement funds to support their adult children and that includes from paying cell phones to car costs. a study suggest that popular e-cigarettes may be contaminated did dangerous toxins. that's in addition to nicotine and other products. there were traces of inflammatory bacteria and 81% had signs of fungal contamination and exposure to those toxins is associates with asthma and reduced lung function. another new study suggests that many kids don't know what they're vaping or how addictive it can be. researchers at stony brook children's hospital surveyed people under 21 about their tobacco e-cigarette and marijuana habits. they found 40% who used in the past week didn't realize their products contained nicotine. but test show they had significant levels of the

chemical in their system. >> these kids are using these high content products, and they're potentially going to get addicted and they don't know what's going on. >> meanwhile drug store chains crackdown on the purchase ever tobacco products, and rite aid will raise the minimum age to 21 within 90 days and walgreens says it will increase the age requirement to 21 starting september 1st. cvs stopped selling tobacco products in 2018. lynch is hanging up his cleat. >> lynch was a stand out for the seahawks for a decade and retired from there in 2016 and joined the raiders a year later and suffered groiing injury -- the a's take on the texas rangers and tonight, the
