now at noon, a deadly motorcycle crash on the bay bridge during the morning commute is still tying up traffic hours later. good afternoon, i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi.

the chp says that motorcycle driver died while trying to escape a traffic stop. >> kpix5 anne mack picks up the story from there. >>reporter: chp said the motorcyclist went through the bus lane at the toll plaza violating the law. a motorcycle officer chased him across the bay bridge and this is where he crashed. just east of fremont street on the san francisco side of the bridge. he died from his injuries soon after. the pursuit started just after 7:30 this morning in the middle of the morning commute. the chp initially shutdown 3 lanes of the highway as they conducted their investigation leaving commuters in a messy traffic backup. >> it was like two and a half hours, it was awful. >> some oakland to san francisco. no other injuries were reported in the pursuit or the crash. in san francisco, anne mackovec, kpix5. unfortunately the bad news doesn't stop there. they have cleared those lanes, it is causing a backup that's going to

last into the afternoon. let's look live at the bay bridge where it's stacked up at the toll plaza and there's no sign of this easing up anytime soon. it's down to a slow crawl. it's not just backed up to the foot of the maze. it's backed up beyond that. so that issue was on fremont, that crash. but you can see the speeds coming across the bay bridge span getting into the double digits, about 45 minutes ago, it was down in the single digits so there is some of the relief at least once you get through the toll plaza. but take a look at how far that backup goes. it's going to take you 45 minutes to get from highway 4 to the maze, thanks to this backup. you are crawling down to 9 miles an hour on the east shore freeway. look at gilman, not looking good. michelle. >> emily, thank you. the chp has not released the name of the motorcyclist involved in the crash. breaking news in alameda county, chopper 5 over this rollover crash in oakland at 98th and macarthur. it happened an hour ago. it's unclear what caused the crash or

if there are any serious injuries. police are investigating. also in alameda county, the search is on for a man who stabbed an off duty sheriff's officer. chopper 5 flew over the mall this morning, and authorities say it happened as the alameda county deputy coming into work at the county social services office at that mall. fortunately the deputy had minor injuries. new at noon, we're getting our first look at the suspect accused of another law enforcement stabbing. this time an oakland police officer. the suspect has been identified as 41-year-old margaret goodlife of oakland. this stabbing happened last week when the officer was walking toward a parking lot at police headquarters and goodlife is held without bail. opening statements started in the ghostship trial. the case where 36 people died in the warehouse fire back in 2016. kpix5 jackie ward is in oakland with what was said in court this morning.

>>reporter: cameras aren't allowed inside the courtroom, but i was there earlier and both defendants almena and harris stood, smile and nodded as each of the jurors wayinged into the room. both of the defendants faced 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. district attorney baits began his opening statements by showing pictures of each of the 36 people who died in the warehouse fire 39 months ago. baits said when people go to a show, they expect to leave safely. there was no adequate exhibits -- almena, the so-called master tenant of what was called the uga hired an unlicensed contractor to transform the space he was renting without their consent. contractors almena consulted with called the warehouse a death trap. supporters of harris had been at nearly every court proceeding. harris was the executive creative director of the collective. >> i'm ready to get

crowd of about 100 people. one woman was killed. three others were injured. former long time east bay congressman -- she was appointed by the state department by president obama and served as a university of california reagent and she had been diagnosed with cancer in 2009 but her official cause of death was not released. she was 67-year-old. diane feinstein tweeted, quote the passing of ellen is a loss for us, she was generous and did her level best to lift up those around her. house speaker nancy pelosi tweeted, representative ellen was an extraordinary force for progress whose leadership will continue to inspire generations of american leaders. taking a live look at the white house where democratic leaders and president trump sat down today to talk about infrastructure. as nicole killian

reports, there's bipartisan support to report america's roads and bridges, both sides can't agree on how to make it happen. >>reporter: democrats said they had a productive meeting on infrastructure with president trump. >> with the recognition we stand at a pivotal place of building infrastructure. >> democratic leaders said they reached an agreement with the president to spend two trillion dollars on a variety of infrastructure projects. >> obviously the roads and the bridges and the highways, obviously water, but also a big emphasis on broadband and we believe every home needs broadband. >> but the sticking point is how to pay for it. the group will meet in three weeks to hear funding ideas from the president. >> certainly in the senate if we don't have him onboard, it will be hard to get the senate to go along. >> roads and bridges are one thing, but democrats say any infrastructure plan must address clean

out as teargas smoke filled the air. this happened on the streets of akihito after guaido called for an uprising to over throw maduro. he called on venezuelans throughout the country to immediately protest. the 35-year-old has promised a transitional government and free elections to end the rule of the maduro regime. a team of security researchers just discovered a massive data breach. they say it exposed the names, ages and addresses of more than 80 million u.s. households and the cash of information was located in an secured data base hosted by a microsoft cloud server. there's no indication that criminals access the personal details, however. microsoft says it notified the owner of the data base and it's no longer accessible. zuckerberg kicked off -- he

some scary moments for an alameda neighborhood after a car in a garbage truck crashed in oakland. this happened at 9:00 this morning on outlook avenue and 73rd. chopper 5 flying over the area. you can see that damage, that car and debris scattered around it. no word on the driver's condition. in santa clara county, an investigation is underway after two vta buses collided. it happened around 7:00 this morning near the alameda

and julian streets. officials say multiple people were taken to the hospital, but they're expected to be okay. one distress call on 101 along the peninsula today. >> chp officers rescued a sea lion from the northbound side of the freeway near the south san francisco exit around 8:30 this morning. authorities say a couple of citizens core raled the sea lion. >> once we arrived, the sea lion willingly jumped in the back of the patrol car and that's when we called mammal recuse. >> the sea lion has a couple of scratches but is okay. the chp posted the pictures of the rescued sea lion in the back of the patrol car and it's undergoing treatment at the spca. let's look at the big board and see how the stock market is doing and the dow is up about 20 points. and southwest lost -- it dropped

mark zuckerberg thinking outside the box with his latest invention made for his wife. check it out. he's calling it the sleep box. and says it's designed to help his wife priscilla chang get better sleet and he says it omits a dimmed light between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. which will let priscilla know if it's time to wake up without looking at a clock and he says it has been a success. avenger's fever is hitting mit. check out the great dome on the campus. students turned it into a giant captain america shield over the weekend. it's not clear how they put the symbol onto the structure, but they said they

today sip of the day is mini ola oranges and they're a cross between a tan rain and an orange. is that beautiful, but selection of storage is important. let me set this down and put the knife down and talk about the mineolas. this one is better. you know why it has the big nub. when you buy them, like all citrus, nice and shiny. that means it's nice and fresh. when you bring them home, store them on the counter and never in the refrigerator. now, these mineola's are easy to peel. they have no seeds. they are great and great for us. there you go. enjoy these
